and yet, like I said, people were confused yesterday.
Players look for visual cues like animation. Heroes are entirely static unless using an ability, so any animation is already reacted to as an attack.

what in the everliving fuck are you building?
what in the everliving fuck are you building?
well I was going for ethblade and blink on top of those
what in the everliving fuck are you building?
you're playing the ultimate pubstar hero
makes sense you'd build the ultimate pubstar items
what in the everliving fuck are you building?
Ethereal Blade obviously.
I played 2 games in a row where we were down like 15-20 kills and racks and came back in a spectacular fashion. Both of the teams were super tryharding, picking Mag/QoP/Sky and Wisp/Slar in the other match.
I ended up with rapier as Void and like a ridiculous amount of money as WR. It's fun to beat people who like to pick broken heroes.

Thus they often fall prey to animation cancelling if thats all they rely on.
Any hero with strong ability that has neat animation duration (Fissure, Split Earth, Hook, etc) can cancel it before it resolves, making it look like it's going to happen, but just faking so you react accordingly.
For example if you do it with Pudge in plain sight, fooled enemy will turn into direction that he wants to run away into. When he does that, you can cast your actual hook, since turning around is going to take a while now.
Dota has a lot of mindgame to it, if players are fooled by a taunt like that, it's good, since they'll eventually learn to quickly recognize more clues to actual ability usage.
What heroes is Ethereal Blade good on besides Morphling anyway?

Pubs NEVER seem to pay attention to Pugna's ward.

bloodseeker
What heroes is Ethereal Blade good on besides Morphling anyway?
not that many besides a super late game lina or something
the problem is the eagle song is completely wasted on most people

a scepter + eth blade lina is a thing of beauty, boss
I still feel it reduces much more, I saw a T3 hammering at my carry, causing zero damage. What's the reduction on those things, given their base is 130-ish, as far as I remember
Towers do siege damage which is reduced to 75% against hero armour, which is further reduced by actual armour value, and then the 80 damage block comes into play. It's perfectly feasible.

'People are tryhards if they pick heroes I don't like'
First of all, Skywrath and Slardar are both far from tryhard, and all of them are balanced except for Magnus.
What heroes is Ethereal Blade good on besides Morphling anyway?
Nyx, Gyro, Bloodseeker, and Pudge are the usual ones. You can build it on other heroes too, but it's even more situational.

I somehow never manage to cancel my hooks as Pudge. How the hell are you supposed to do it?

It was a stack vs. me and one other. They trilaned in a pub. Perhaps I wasn't being clear enough.

Press H really fast.
Random OD
Tango, Salve, 4 mantles.

Destroyed invoker mid, neither of us really ganked at all because mid was so interesting.
Ended like this, very close game.
Gyro was kind enough to get a Rapier.
Gyro > Axe > LS > Me
Who were trilaning? Qop, Magnus and Skywrath Mage?
Because if that's the situation... Holy fucking shit that's dumb as fuck oh god lol by god if you lost to them
putting skywrath mage in a non-solo lane without all of his lane partners having stuns is like the worst thing you could do with skywrath
more like burn in hell, Morphling was boring as shit to watch IMO.
Dude, count your blessings that you didn't watch DOTA1 then. Spectre had this period where she was considered more unbeatable than KOTL+PL currently... now that was boring.
What about putting three solo mids in a trilane?
skywrath is sorta capable of supporting as long as his allies are remotely capable of killing something since he has a 40% slow at all levels and an obnoxiously long silence
magnus is an iffy one
qop in anything other than a solo lane is pretty dumb though yeah
It was a stack vs. me and one other. They trilaned in a pub. Perhaps I wasn't being clear enough.
So friends aren't allowed to play together without being 'tryhards', or use a viable laning strategy?
The word 'tryhard' is just retarded to begin with, what does it even mean? Are people condemned for playing the game differently from you now or something?
http://dotabuff.com/matches/192869391
Sheesh. No more dumb pls
What about putting three solo mids in a trilane?
Could be worse
Pudge, Night Stalker, Clockwerk
What heroes is Ethereal Blade good on besides Morphling anyway?
Tryhard means to try extremely hard to win a game and play for winning with no fun allowed.
Examples of tryhard;
PL + kotl, Nyx, Magnus and <fitting hero goes here> on same team.
Necrolyte
