NMS has (had?) an issue where using less than max graphics ruined the fps. May want to give a go at setting everything on max, a year or so ago it fixed up my drops and stutter. Dunno if it's still a thing but it's worth trying.
Use this if you want to boost your FPS by like 30% and don't mind pop-ins: https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/617/?tab=files

Fun update.
One of these shots is not like the others. One of these shots is from a time I'd rather forget.
I dunno why so many people are having performance problems, runs smooth with my I7 4790, GTX 970 and 16GB of ram. Aside from some sync issues the multiplayer works great. https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/984485121694951016/0305375C67508D2908781BD59084327570FF2561/
What is your definition of "runs smooth"?
The game can definitely use more optimization, and I think most people who say they're getting stable framerates is just the game being at least workable with its frame-pacing like Crysis/CryEngine games are where 40fps feels like 60fps, and you don't notice the lower framerate unless you have an FPS counter on. The game also has actually a nice adjustable motion blur where if you actually do keep it on, it does make things look more consistently smooth. I actually locked my fps to 30 instead since while I can reach 60fps on High-Ultra, it fluctuates a lot to 40-35, especially in high floral areas which can be noticeable going from a smooth space trip to a lush planet. Game still feels nice at 30fps and I'm downsampling from 4k to at least gain some visual benefit from a lower framerate but I hope optimization will be the next milestone the devs are working on after NEXT
Enabling triple buffering in the Nvidia control panel and adding the mod mentioned above seem to have fixed my performance issues (i7-4790k, 16gb RAM, gtx1070 8gb). Hovering between 60 and 80 with maxed settings at 1080p. At least in this area. https://i.imgur.com/3O1dPHT.jpg I'm very glad I waited before buying the game.
I arrived at a new system and a freigther close to me was under fire, so i decided to help, i cleared the threats and once i entered the freigther and spoke to the captain he just decided to give me his freigther for free, something something about the burden being too much for him but hey dont mind me this is great!
Thankfully mines running like butter, though I do have a 1080
Found a very pretty tundra planet that was red and black: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/213360/3cbd46fb-ba87-4706-98c3-5ffc1e832a05/20180725232454_1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/213360/768e0841-80a8-4358-81d7-eb2d5b75c591/20180725232312_1.jpg
Kinda the same planet as posted above, but man, if it didn't have Sentinels who were constantly out for my ass, I'd probably build a base here and call it my main home. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/207991/d021e0bf-b0f7-4c48-87b9-5888b404c3e6/20180726001401_1.jpg
Yeah I'm enjoying the game so far. Had to spend two hours tweaking graphical shit but now it's working pretty well.
I haven't found anything about this when googling it, how does multiplayer (specifically co-op) deal with mods anyway? I know you flag your game with a startup warning sign once you enable that functionality, but does that block you from joining friends entirely? I feel like getting some QoL mods to speed the grinding up, but I also want to play with somebody.
Well for instance I can still join MP with this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/617/?tab=files
Yeah that one supposedly gets you flagged as well, so I think that answers it quite nicely. Does make me curious what would happen with something as big as RaYRoD's overhaul tho I'll give it and some other mods a shot once I get home, thanks for the info!
I'm guessing that nothing stops people from modding however they want, it just might cause desync issues in MP.

Hope the next patch improves plant and animal procedural generation more. So we don't see the same templates with different size and color after a few planets.
Also a hint to newer players, if you punch then jetpack, it will launch you forward extremely fast. Add on the flowers that give you unlimited jetpack power and you can jump 500 units in a single bound.
47-54 FPS, average 52 Settings: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/984485121698084529/40996D4F3BCF013B5081E4D3D52CD1C0A3784068/
I got this same event (Think it's something everybody gets after a certain point) But somehow got the ire of the sentinels during the fight and got killed. I didn't know you get a free freighter out of it, wonder if it just lose out on it now or what.
So... it's actually worth getting now? Like it's not just as big of a dispointment as Spore was? I want actual player testimonals, not media buzzwords of "THIS IS THE NO MANS SKY THAT WAS ALWAYS MENT TO BE! BUY NOW!*" *Reviews totally not paid, guys!
Hm, so underwater bases have normal movement physics, but character models still play swimming animations.

I was gonna ask about this. Is it at all better than it used to be? Even a little? Because when I played it I was running into the same creatures constantly, but they were also really crappy looking. Like this guy I found on my starting planet in my first ever session https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/264970571029963508/C3C813A28E14887259909836CDCABB78D9A5A44C/ Look at him. Dude's missing chromosomes or something. You can't really see it there but he also has a fucking turtle shell too, which I can only imagine is nature's safety helmet for it's special needs species. And yes, that's what the game looked like on highest settings.
See, for me running "smooth" is running at 80fps on average which I managed but tweaking a lot with the knobs (I literally have the same hardware as you). For some people like me anything below 60fps is unacceptable.
Yeah, especially with friends. Feels like a very different game than it was.
Id take that shit any day over the vanilla creatures that were strictly quadrupeds with the same exact shape but different sizes.
