made a quick edit to make exocraft mining not garbage, if anyone else is interested https://ufile.io/x5kz1 hits for 240 damage with the 55% upgrade and it's a little faster seemed silly that it was doing 8 damage and was so slow compared to the handheld mining laser
Jjust got caught in a firestorm on a scorched planet... https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/208031/9d9e23ca-4a39-440a-801d-d6b19bd2102b/Untitled.jpg
Caved in and bought the steam version so I could play multiplayer - after collecting my refund from GoG. First person I connected to seemed to be AFK on the other side of the planet from his base, so naturally, like a creep, I constructed an observatory into the side of a nearby mountain that looks over his base. With how the NMS discovery system works, that base is only going to be visible to him like, 10% of the time. I hope he gets spooked.
Anyone else run into a bug where every other rock you scan is called Yukovskite?
Some extreme planets can have storms for literal days. One frozen planet I went to had a nonstop blizzard the entire time I was there. Also forsaken planets are so creepy.
Turns out some conflux of events permanently buggered me out of getting the microprocessor blueprint from the base scientist. Could just buy them in the future, but considering starting a new save before I sink more hours into the current one I thought that was just because of a very limited pool of mineral names, especially as they don't seem to be something one can rename anyway.
They need to add some real mineral names, like Cummingtonite

So, I bought it too. The NEXT update was what really sold it to me. Anyway, I escaped my absolute toxic AND radioactive hell world and flew to the next planet which is a pristine perfect Ice world that has Earth-like Flora. Minimal sentinels, generous Flora, Bountiful Fauna Now I'm just setting up my little base in the shadow of an monstrously titanic crashed freighter The ice storms can get pretty rough out here, temperature drop to -190 is getting pretty common Feels like I'm in SCI-FI Alaska This is maximum comfy. Hello from Lider 16/F8, wish you where here.
My game dips to 10fps now. Even when I'm nearly 2 million units from my planet, it still renders my base in full detail
Scored myself an exotic ship https://i.imgur.com/vdsG7dg.jpg https://i.imgur.com/JbinzPj.jpg I dig it
The game's fun but good god is it riddled with bugs. The more I play the more issues crop up. Right now, if I delete a base it's still going to show up on the teleport list. Also the base archive defragmentation quest is really buggy, with it thinking the base computer on the freighter. At least they're rolling out the hotfixes pretty quick but those bugs seem to be easily reproducible. Do they only Q&A on PS4 or something?
What does the cockpit look like?

Did some random exploration and bumped into this spooky place. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/164/3d0de1b6-7230-4dbd-b7dd-721104aea8c4/275850_20180802005719_1.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/164/d0658f77-cbff-4461-a1f3-74a060cfbbd6/275850_20180802005821_1.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/164/c903b112-6f85-4eca-b330-6bf00552aa43/275850_20180802010212_1.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/164/6c8bef58-5669-40b2-a629-2117b880f3da/275850_20180802010300_1.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/164/a7ab7360-c263-4335-9159-b11bc156e8bf/275850_20180802010417_1.png Was nothing in particular in it, just a unique station variant without any NPC's I guess. Portal terminus worked fine. I'm also not all that happy with the way my ship gets parked when I go to my base, maybe I shouldn't have made it underwater :v https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/164/1bf71f7c-f4db-4b0e-827f-2efbe7ea3b95/275850_20180802013826_1.png
Found a moon inside the ring system of another planet, doesn't look as cool as it sounds https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/108621/1d61a6bc-dbfc-448d-ba0a-1392b28d84f3/image.png
is this game worth a buy at $30
Yes.
Definitely. Full price is a hard recommendation because of how buggy it is, and even then I'd only recommend it at 60 to people with very specific tastes. That said it's very much worth it on a discount.
Ok. I have some questions then. I see this photo for a ship labeled 'your capital ship' Can I have a fleet? If so, how big can it get? Is the multiplayer drop-in, drop-out? Do I get random player encounters? What's the gameplay loop? Can you destroy planets?
So you can go into your main capital ship then you have fleet ships that you send away from your capital to do missions. I've seen some pretty huge ones Multiplayer is drop in and out You will get random people joining you I guess the gameplay loop is dependent on what you like doing, it's kinda like minecraft people play it different from others You can't destroy planets.
anyone else noticed that in their current states, No Man's Sky and Starbound are literally the exact same game? starbound's initial early access release was a lot like NMS's: bland planets with no reason to explore, and hardly any content now in both games, basebuilding is made meaningful and useful with teleporters, and the model of hiring NPCs for the base and doing jobs for them, while you gather hyperdrive fuel and jump from system to system in your ship, is almost identical
well ill buy it and then shitpost about you if you i dont like it >:c
I found a great spot for my main base. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/235806451371737098/474412254297849876/20180801230340_1.jpg and if I turn my camera to look behind me https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/235806451371737098/474412323755524137/20180801230352_1.jpg
Do you guys use some nomenclature to name the planets or systems you visit? I'm a bit cliché so I always defer to Greek alphabet and words. I'll usually Prefix any system discovered with "Kappa" (Because my name is Karl) and then a sequential greek number. Then I'll leave the rest of the pregenerated name. For planets, I'll just add the greek number of the system as a prefix to the planet. So for the 3rd star system I visited it will give something like "Kappa Tria Nizelen", and the planet would be "Tria Aoed". Basically I just wanted something exotic-sounding that still followed a clear pattern if anyone stumbled across it.
Found a pretty cool planet: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/952960648617907771/7284404D48467A61933D15CC1E936D27D5171B54/ https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/952960648617907411/46D5CBDD7BB7CF071E6B9FF5DD13AF208C92FE71/ Too bad I couldn't explore it without getting attacked by MILLIONS OF SENTINELS
TBH I'm having way more fun in NMS, it just has more satisfying exploration in my opinion. I think being in full 3D with seamless planetary travel gives it a big edge. Also the spaceships look REALLY cool in NMS and the capital ships are actually imposing.
How do you build those bases that arent a bunch of panels and stuff, but the kind where you add new rooms
it's absolutely worth $30... now... unless you have the performance issues I'm having. Lot of people with the R9 series cards, and then some, are having issues
Yeah I've been ignoring that quest, I was half thinking how shit the base building was lol
