I thought the animals were all procedural, how is he modeling one? I literally know nothing at all about anything, is that like, a base model or something?
He might be designing a base and seeing how various applications of the procedural generation will look on it (i.e different antlers, hoofs, face etc)
I thought the animals were all procedural, how is he modeling one? I literally know nothing at all about anything, is that like, a base model or something?
They make a base creature and the engine will take it then morth it into hundreds or thousands of different shapes and sizes to the point some look like completely new creatures. Supposedly it doesn't just move things like antlers around it is supposed to morth the shape and size of everything as well as the texture. We have yet to see pictures of different creatures produced from a base creature so we have no idea if the system is good or trash yet.
I somehow doubt it'll remain modless for long.
Wrong m8, if devs don't want it modded it won't be modded. Wheres those mods for insanely popular games such as battlefield 3&4?
Wrong m8, if devs don't want it modded it won't be modded. Wheres those mods for insanely popular games such as battlefield 3&4?
BF 3&4 are games that people mostly play multiplayer, I'd say an open world game is way more prone to getting mods. BF3 and 4 do however both appear to have graphical mods just from googling around a bit.
Wrong m8, if devs don't want it modded it won't be modded. Wheres those mods for insanely popular games such as battlefield 3&4?
no game necessarily needs "mods" to survive (even though some carry on the longevity of the game. for example mods that makes older games work on newer operating systems) but the ability to mods games in the first place is SUCH a nice bonus elder scrolls and fallout don't need mods to survive but without them people wouldn't be ranting and raving about those games today. games that have an open world need modding if they ever plan on actually providing a value to the player
Wrong m8, if devs don't want it modded it won't be modded. Wheres those mods for insanely popular games such as battlefield 3&4?
There is a difference between not wanting something modded, and completely cutting off modding in general to make it difficult. When devs don't want their games to be modded I always see it as a hugely arrogant and foolish thing to do, pretty stupid. Looking forward to this nonetheless, but I absolutely hate that attitude when devs display it.
NEWS !!!!! Starting today until the 10th Gamespot are going to be releasing videos about No Mans Sky. The reason for this is because one of the guys that works there gets on well with Sean. They have a section of their website made for No Mans Sky showing the themes for each video: http://www.gamespot.com/the-next-big-game-no-mans-sky/ July 7th first video (The story of Hello Games and No Mans Sky) How can a tiny team in southern England create a game like No Mans Sky? July 8th second video (Unveiling the gameplay of No Mans Sky) Space flight, Trade, Bounty, Hunting, Exploration, Meeting others, and much more. July 9th third video (No Mans Sky: The biggest game world ever created) Billions of worlds, Creatures, Plants, Ships, and possibly more. How scale makes No Mans Sky unique. July 10th fourth video (Reality check: The science behind No Mans Sky universe) Cameron Robinson visits Hello Games to uncover the tools that built an entire universe [editline]7th July 2014[/editline] Also another piece of fan art that looks nice. That was a great video. I don't think I've ever seen someone so passioned about their game than these guys. It's refreshing, really. It'll be interesting to see what the details tomorrow will be. So far they've been pretty vague on how the game will actually play, so I'm looking forward to that.
NEWS !!!! July 8th second video (Unveiling the gameplay of No Mans Sky) Space flight, Trade, Bounty, Hunting, Exploration, Meeting others, and much more. There is some new gameplay footage but mainly just re takes of the same situations or just continuing the same scenes. Sean Murray being cryptic as usual but nice to hear he has plans for a more traditional multiplayer experience later on.

Here is a video with all of the new(ish) footage mashed together.
I love how passionate these guys seem. Gives me lots of hope.
For those that never noticed in the picture below there is a large building on the left with a ship landed in an open hanger. Either going to be big empty buildings or you will be able to trade on both land stations and in space stations. [t]http://i.imgur.com/qDQX7mY.png[/t] [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] Now I think about it they have actually talked about planet trading posts in one of their interviews so it could be one of those or just empty.
the footage may be new, but it sure as shit hasn't shown off anything we haven't seen already. i seriously hope everything this game has wasn't already displayed.
It bothers me how they seem to be portraying space in this game. The planets and creatures look great, but why is it that space seems to always have a purple or green cast to it? Yes, nebulas and all that, but I haven't seen a single clip of No Man's Sky that actually had inky black outer space with stars and shit.
Why does space in this game need to look like that?
Because that's what space looks like? :v:
Because that's what space looks like? :v:
Who cares, it looks fucking beautiful and I am sure that they just have it there for the 'awe' factor in these pre game trailers.
Because that's what space looks like? :v:
pretty sure 99.999% of space isn't in a nebula that would cause coloration like that.
Here you have these vibrant, colorful planets that are teeming with life and beauty, like wonderful oases in the empty desert of space. Yet the space around them is all colorful and washed-out, with no stars or distant galaxies or nebulae to speak of, leaving nothing to provide contrast between being in space and being on a planet's surface. I understand that it's a stylistic choice, but I think it's a choice that has problems. [editline]8th July 2014[/editline]
pretty sure 99.999% of space isn't in a nebula that would cause coloration like that.
That is what I'm saying. I don't like the whole colored space thing they've got going on. It doesn't make any sense.
this game is hardly going for realism though so who cares
Also, realistic inky black outer space becomes fucking boring after like two minutes. It's just always the same and I really do not want space travel to feel like a drag.
I sincerely hope you will be able to find crashed ships and repair them.
I somehow doubt it. Find crashed ships? Sure! Repair them? Nah. With the emphasis they seem to be putting into trading with NPCs, it would appear that they want you to trade your way to a ship, and not just randomly find one and fly away in it. I like the idea personally, I just don't think it'll happen.
I'd prefer if you could salvage crashed ships to trade the spare parts for stuff or repair your own ship
I wan to know what happens when you die. Is there any kind of save/load system, do you respawn, or do you have to start over like it's a roguelike?

[editline]9th July 2014[/editline] Does anyone know if this game has orbital mechanics?
i seriously hope everything this game has wasn't already displayed.
The devs seem to be really keen on making the point that that is definitely not the case [editline]9th July 2014[/editline]
It bothers me how they seem to be portraying space in this game.
