I hate to be the (partial) newbie in the middle of your higher-level discussion, but I decided to get back into Killing Floor and it's...not nearly as awful as I used to think. Fresh set of eyes fixes a lot, I suppose.
Still not a fan of the grind for perks, though, but I'm making steady progress in normal play. And I'm not sure if buying the weapon DLC would be worth it if Killing Floor 2 is coming out so soon.
If you play a lot of firebug or berzerker you might want to check out the first weapon pack. if you play other perks, they're not really a necessity or anything.

1 weapons DLC and the Steampunk are good ones, the rest is just optional really. But at this rate, i believe you can encounter someone with DLC and just ask to him to buy the weapom for you

I play a lot of Support and Medic, I've mostly leveled Sharpshooter up by complete accident, so thanks for letting me know I'm not missing much.

Don't worry about perk level, skill denotes everything unless you're playing suicidal and HOE. I'd much rather a co-operative and competent level 2 over a perk editing level 6 commando with a flamethrower.
But if you really want to get those perks up, try playing on hard for more zeds to shoot at with more HP.

Lets be friends.
I think a good buff to firebug would be its effectiveness to higher ranked zeds.
Commando already does a good job at clearing all the trash zeds like crawlers and clots anyways that I think the firebug should be more viable at helping take down the big guys like fleshpounds or scrakes.
In order for that I suggest some changes like :
Decreasing burn time and weapon damage on big zeds (flamethrower)
A secondary property would be added to flamethrower that would slow that would increase the longer you keep firing.(a cap would be added as well?)
Not sure about this one but damage might also increase the longer you hold(good idea with the slow buff?)
The slow would not stack with other firebugs.
Hope these suggestions are good if not suggest what should be changed since I'd really love the firebug to be a lot more useful than it is now.

Maybe a certain perk level could allow enemies you set on fire to spread it to other enemies through contact? Might make ammo less of a worry on earlier waves and allow for greater collateral damage when taking on bigger specimens.
