So how are you going to play PP? Mix of lethal and non? Guns blazing when it all goes to shit?
Naked Camo Bandana Un-silenced AK47 (I don't know the name of the gun in the game) No items, no buddies. Stick to CQC and being unseen, and use the weapon for last measures only, knowing that it will not go unheard.
Me I'm definitely going for a mixed style, lethal and not for the first playthrough. Killing useless soldiers and kidnapping good ones, playing with explosives more, shit like that.
I'm going to play pure non-lethal stealth, restarting the entire mission if I'm seen. Unless I get more than 20 or 30 minutes into the mission, then fuck it, Biggy's gonna dome the fuckers.
Un-silenced AK47 (I don't know the name of the gun in the game)
Well according to IMFDB, the enemies use a FAL sorta, the guns are all lookalike of real guns but none are the real thing And the generic rifle you have is a mix of FN FAL, the SR 88, the Daewoo K2, and the Gwinn Firearms Bushmaster
I'm going to kill so many people that the corpse limit will be reached and the bodies will disappear
3 hours and 15 minutes, 8PM GMT+1
but where

Hell yeah, he's got the MGS1 sneaking suit [editline]baceroni[/editline] oh they showed it in a demo last year already
lethal stealth the only way to go this game (except for also KOing and taking the useful soldiers)
this is going to be the primary means of play in TPP for me every game leading up to this has been a hero, this is big boss becoming a villain and that mix of lethal and nonlethal play will fit the character much better than it has in the past
I think non-lethal still fits BB fine because he's only knocking them out so he can kidnap them and build his military. It's the difference between being a killer and being a villain.
I'm probably going to play situational, which is how I do most stealth games when achievements aren't involved Non Lethal is a fun challenge and most stealth games I've played I try for it (Go fuck yourself, Human Revolution for being such an ass about it) but I find it takes me out of the experience sometime. For a lot of the time getting caught makes me feel like the game is over, when in reality, Snake or Sam Fisher or whoever would fuck that situation up because surviving is more important. I'm gonna try and RP Snake a bit, be non lethal as he always is, but if he's mad? I'm going fucking Nuclear. I'm not finishing TPP without one Spec Ops The Line style massacre of enemy troops.
I think non-lethal still fits BB fine because he's only knocking them out so he can kidnap them and build his military. It's the difference between being a killer and being a villain.
oh i'll mainly be non-lethal as long as it supports mother base. but once someone doesn't serve a purpose, there won't be any reason to let them stand in bb's way he's already a demon after all
Leather jacket & silenced Mac 10 for true 80's experience
Leather jacket & silenced Mac 10 for true 80's experience
For true 80's, also add a rooster mask.
Word to the wise: Just don't watch that new trailer. It's dumb, lazy and potentially has some spoilers. It adds nothing to the hype. I need to forget it and re-watch all the other trailers to get the bad taste out of my mouth. If you haven't seen it yet, do not watch it.
i play mostly non lethal stealth; i'm not afraid to kill people if it makes things easier, but sometimes i kill just to shake things up, putting people to sleep gets boring after a while. i love using cqc more than anything though, and i try to use it as much as i can as long as it's somewhat practical

I'm gonna play pretty much the same way I played Peacewalker, I'm gonna fulton every person, animal, vehicle, and fultonable object I can get my hands on.
more like faux 80s
faux 80s is better than the 80s tbh
on the subject of NonLethal / Lethal what do you suppose the canon is regarding the both of them I've always seen it as Solid kills reluctantly to sort of fuel an addiction he knows he has, (For those saying this is basless, the ending of MGS2 he goes fucking nuclear, and all throughout 4 he pulls the Springfield) whereas Big Boss was more selective, only ending lives if he had to out of trauma from Operation Snake Eater and the Sorrow Raiden is selective at first, but after the events of Big Shell descends into violence I think. Although I suppose there's a lot of choice, he seems a bit regretful of his past.
I wonder if the banana will make a return in TPP http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Banana

I am also not sure how its dumb or lazy, its designed like pretty much all their other trailers, but was more focused on some gameplay elements, selling points and action/drama which is understandable as we are nearing release. Yes it is true that many trailers typically for movies sell the plot way too much but here? I still don't know jack besides that someguy wants to get nukes, why and how, and what actually happens? I have no clue. Its a teaser, its meant to make you hunger for more, these are obviously acceptable enough snippets of the story by official sources. It was a fine trailer, and honestly makes me wonder what all these new things were, why they are doing certain things, and showed some impressive elements of the gameplay I did not expect, it was everything a trailer should be. Wait this is the MGS thread, maybe you're doing reverse psychology against me. :mindblown:

MGS1 is entirely about sneaking and not being seen, avoiding your enemies. The same is true of MGS2 until you reach the end where sneaking is no longer an option. both games overwhelmingly emphasize a ghost / non-contact style of sneaking. (this is why i've always felt that MGS1/2 are the best in the series, simply because i like their style of play the best) MGS3 is about sneaking and incapacitating enemies via nonlethal or lethal means. MGS4, in turn, is also based on this style. This is pinpointed by MGS3 beginning with "remember the basics of CQC" emphasizing not a sneaking game, but a more action oriented approach. Peace Walker (and to an extent, GZ and hopefully TPP) merges the systems of 1/2 and 3/4. a partial mix of takedowns and simple avoidance. what you start to see (imo) is Solid Snake gradually becoming more and more like big boss over MGS1/2/4. He begins as a pure stealth operative, but gradually becomes more and more of a soldier throughout the series. In MGS1/2 he only utilizes violence when his hand is forced, but in MGS4 it's almost the natural route he takes. it's an interesting connection that gets drawn between BB and SS throughout the series. they both start off relatively green but vary quite significantly in their methods, but towards the end they both begin to move towards the same general style. this may either be intentional or merely a side effect of the non-linear storytelling and gameplay mechanics of the series.
I liked the new trailer. I know for a fact some of you hate it only because Kojima didn't direct it.
I liked the new trailer. I know for a fact some of you hate it only because Kojima didn't direct it.
well yeah lol there's nothing wrong with admitting that, Kojima has an actual touch, this thing was slapped together and reeks of generic shit. Constant fading to black and EPIC TEXT END OF AN ERA kinda shit every transition? Yeah, that's pretty much as barebones as a video game trailer can be. Wathc Nuclear or Elegia Koji's trailers have always been a step above, so getting one so reminiscient of yearly shooter trailers is a letdown
For true 80's, also add a pair of Gargoyles.
I wouldn't say the trailer is bad- I liked it overall! For example, they put Kiefer's voice to good use compared to how we've seen it before (is that intentional on kojima's part?). There's just a few things that bother me about it, such as the way it's presented, that keep it from being as good as the previous trailers.
even the 3d text wasn't classy at all it felt like i was watching a trailer for the latest blockbuster action film rather than a sci-fi action stealth game
i'm really curious if the first trailer that came out for the game was directed by kojima. it's got a considerably more generic tone because at the time, they were still under "moby dick studios". you can tell especially with the music. personally i'm not watching just because i don't trust konami to not spoil important details, and given that everyone is saying that it includes some i won't be touching it
The latest trailer has a nice blend of plot and gameplay and actually feels more tense than previous trailers, it doesn't bother me if there are little transitions with (God forbid!) a generic font. It reminds me of the GZ launch trailer, I think it was made by the same person/people. Strangely enough they use two very similar lines in those trailers, in the above trailer Big Boss says "Fine, I like some alone time now and then" and in the new trailer it's "I like working solo anyway."
imo solid snake is the ultimate ghost - the only time he ever employs weaponry is when there's no other option. naked snake / big boss is more willing to utilize killing/incapacitating to facilitate his movement.
I'd agree with you except for the caveat that MGS1 deals with the fact that Solid Snake easily massacres most of the Genome soldiers. His only takedowns are lethal, and he kills every single member of Foxhound without hesitation. Admittedly a lot of that is because of Non Lethal not being an option at all in that game, but Liquid even calls him out on the fact that he enjoys killing people, a fact he doesn't deny at all, and when questioned by Raiden about in 2, compeltely dodges the question (Suggesting he's still uncomfortable with it.) Evidence against this is in the opening of the Tanker mission he's using a tranquilizer pistol, but that's more likely becasue they're US marines and he's not about to go waging a war on US soil. But whenver he's not in control of the player (i,e, all of MGS2) he's using lethal means. When sniping, or at the very end, he kills 30-40 soldiers without breaking a sweat, in a situation where Raiden is able to use non lethal force. Your point of Big Boss using CQC is definitely worthwhile, as I get the sense MGS3 was expecting you to be dropping russians like flies. (The Sorrow cements this heavily, as his boss fight on a non lethal playthrough is kind of awkward and boring, whereas on a Nuclear playthrough it's actually disturbing and slightly harrowing) I think the ending of MGS3 is open enough that's it's up to the player to decide whether or not the events of Operation Snake Eater drove Big Boss to complete lethality or swore him off of killing people except necessary.
