I don't think Sutherland's voice really fits, it's so raspy and Big Boss feels like a different character. Also because he barely talks it feels as if he's constantly being upstaged.

I think Sutherland is okay, but as far as replacements for Hayter go, I would have rather had Kurt Russel. The whole reference to Escape From New York would have gone full-circle.
Hell, even Richard Doyle would have been a better fit.

When does Big Boss angrily hiss at Skull Face "I dont give a fuck about your war".

Richard Doyle's Big Boss was great, say what you want about that scene but they nailed his voice and appearance.
Sutherland does a great job. The mental state of Big Boss at this point is basically a shell of his former self, after all,
Ever since the day I killed The Boss with my own hands, I was already dead.
A subdued performance probably works better to portray this type of character that is still haunted by his decisions 20 years after the fact. Ground Zeroes is the only real gauge we have for how frequent Punished Kief talks anyway, Snake has enough lines for how much content is there.

Richard Doyle is pretty old (70 now I think?). I don't think he would fit a younger Big Boss.
But as an old Big Boss in [sp]MGS4[/sp] he was great. As far as replacements for Hayer I would have loved to see somebody like Christian Bale take the role. He's a fan of the series and knowing him he could pull it off pretty well.
Sutherland is okay I guess. At least it's not Troy Baker or god forbid Yuri Lowenthal. Seriously fuck those guys.

Or you show Cipher he's not untouchable by changing the tape on his cassette player to Bandstand Boogie and it broadcasts it to all the troops
Anyone seen the video on non-linear war? I'm hoping Cipher does something like this to BB where in most of the game you're not sure who you're fighting or exactly why beyond "revenge"
Speaking of voice actors, Troy Baker's Ocelot is really inconsistent. Not sure if that is intentional or not but it's jarring to hear it change up multiple times, like he sounds radically different in each line of the most recent trailer.

MGSV, starring Troy Baker as fucking everyone

I think he sounds too similar to Kaz.

If Christian Bale got cast, I can guarantee that Big Boss would have become the new "Dubs Guy".
I don't know why people say Christian Bale likes MGS, he clearly just bullshitted an answer for that interview.

That's some serious 1984 misinformation shit
i think 50 year old snake is played really well by sutherland.
I just hope he has more lines than just command voices and 2 lines per movie sequence, since he apparently is expensive to hire?
I've been asking this one thing though...
Naturaly, people would notice when there are super soldiers and giant mechs roaming around, killing stuff.
How isn't that tech more abused in the "current day" of MGS? Sure we don't know yet the level of advancement in those female super soldiers, but shouldn't there be more of an advancement in warfare by the time, say, MGS1's events came through?
Did Zero keep it all a secret through its plans? Ethics and stuff blocked it from being common practice?
I feel like we need a remake of MG1 and 2, to redo the story.
(or maybe I'm wrong, I'm not that familiar with how in sync with TPP's history MG1 and 2 would be in terms of tech and warfare)

I wish he went for something closer to Ocelot's original voice. Patric Zimmerman always sounded somewhat subdued and menacing in the role, there was a sinister twist in everything he said. Troy Baker is just your average Ruff McGruff.

Baker sounded good in the original Afghanistan gameplay but in the new trailer/gameplay the majority of his lines it sounds like he's trying to mimic a cowboy and it sounds really fucking weird.

must be an american thing to hear that, I don't notice a hint of forced cowboyism or anything
I disagree about Richard Doyle is too old for BB. Big Boss is almost fifty in Phantom Pain; he would have done fine. Not to mention if they had cut Hayter after Ground Zeroes and then had Doyle come in for TPP, it would have at least fucking made sense. A helicopter crash and nine years in a coma is good enough to explain switching to his old voice actor. Instead we got an inexplicable radical voice change for BB at a time that doesn't make any sense in the lore.
Kojima should have gotten Kiefer at the beginning of MGS 3.
Alternatively as some have said before, should've kept Hayter for Ground Zeroes (especially since BB really doesn't do a whole lot of complex motion in the cutscenes, not even for the Mother Base attack), and then moved to Kiefer for Phantom Pain.
That sounds like a bigger kick in the teeth for Hayter :v:
That sounds like a bigger kick in the teeth for Hayter :v:
Well maybe they could've kept Hayter around for flashbacks and such and then shifted to Kiefer for the majority. But while I can tolerate the change now, the principles behind it are still dumb and forced as fuck.
I kinda like Keifer from what we heard, although I really want to hear more than four words coming from big boss before I make any solid decisions on liking him
Also, I know this is probably an unpopular opinion but in PW Hayter sounded so bad. Like the snake voice was taking a toll on his vocal cords bad. It would have really affected the quality of TPP to have hayter sounding like that imo.
Snake hasn't sounded good since MGS1.
Nothing against Hayter, I quite like his voice, but I hate how he speaks like THIS, after mgsONE, by accentuating every WORD, right before ending the sentence or reaching a COMMA.
He was soo natural in MGS1. Heck, MGS1 codec dialogue for example sounded really great. Like it had this very particular tone and way of sounding.

In an interview someone asked Hayter if he could still do young MGS1 Snake's voice, and he said he could, and then he talked in the voice and it sounded fine to me. So he's not physically unable to do that voice, just voice directors didn't want that voice.

We can blame Kris Zimmerman for that. She apparently wanted to take it in a very different direction. IIRC, she's the one that also wanted Hayter to voice a pirate for BB in Peace Walker instead of something more similar to MGS3.

The writing and voice directors are to blame. Voice actors don't exert a lot of control over how someone needs to sound.
If you got Hayter to read lines from GZ in a certain tone it'd be fine.
If Hayter was rehired for MGSV, he ideally would have used his Peace Walker voice, maybe a little toned down, for Ground Zeroes. Then, because Big Boss's vocal chords went unused for 9 years, he'd have the MGS1 voice for The Phantom Pain.
I think that'd work.

This, go watch the original Afghanistan gameplay he's nailed what Young ocelot should sound fucking perfectly, it got me so hyped because he had the signature growl without being too overtly Troy Baker
now he just kind of sounds like a trailer parker

Got S rank on GZ, it's gonna be a nightmare getting it on hard + on every other mission...

Just imagine yourself to be the Big Boss and you'll find a way.
Really, playing on hard mostly comes down to patience.
