Got S rank on GZ, it's gonna be a nightmare getting it on hard + on every other mission...
You only rescued 2 prisoners?
You know damn well Big Boss would've gone back for every single one of them.
My favorite part of Ground Zeroes as a whole is rescuing the prisoners and hearing the inspiration and hope in their voice as Big Boss saves them. It makes you understand people's undying loyalty to the guy.
[editline]23rd June 2015[/editline]
actually GZ has so many damn good moments, the attention to detail even in one hour long story mission is incredible
the scene of Big Boss stepping off the chopper and going fucking nuclear on XOF was amazing, we've never really seen Boss so angry before but he just starts opening fire and destroys a goddamn helicopter
You get the sense XOF chose to attack the way they did because they knew if they went head on Big Boss would've killed them

Doesn't paz and chico count as prisoner rescues on the score screen?
If that's the case ZnT00 didn't even bother to rescue prisoners :v:
I don't know why people say Christian Bale likes MGS, he clearly just bullshitted an answer for that interview.
Agreed. The interview is basically him going "Uh, sure yeah. Whatever." to being asked if he knew or was interested in MGS.
People have always blamed Kris Zimmerman but still fairly recently I came upon something I hadn't noticed before where somebody mentioned that the translator they used for MGS 1's localization was actually dropped afterwards in favor of another group from MGS 2 onwards,
which is where we notice that shift in the acting for the series.
Apparently the guy is known for doing some extremely nice, extremely well done, and above all natural translations of the original Japanese scripts. But obviously in order to do that often times you have to take some of your own liberties and apparently KP was not fond of that. At all.
When you compare the dialogue between the original MGS and the Twin Snakes remake which takes after MGS 2, and just how awkward some of the new lines sound (which were supposed to be more accurate to the Japanese dialogue), the difference is pretty clear.
It's pretty freaking stupid that they did that and who knows if they've even realized the effects of it being Japanese speakers. But it is their series and they're entitled to it.
Ah, I was under the impression that Kris did the translations.

My friend and I were making fun of XOF wearing flight suits and blamed it on rule of cool. My friend found out later that flight suits were used by soldiers for their flame retardant properties. And they're attacking an oil rig.
The voice director may be responsible for the presentation but what can you do when the lines and choreography are already awkward?
So you've got that but also flanderization from MGS 2 and onwards and it's only progressed with each game. At this point it's become a part of Metal Gear's identity for better and worse.
yeah but this time around with kief doing the mocap for the jap version too we're obviously gonna get something less deviational from the intended
This, go watch the original Afghanistan gameplay he's nailed what Young ocelot should sound fucking perfectly, it got me so hyped because he had the signature growl without being too overtly Troy Baker

Speaking of odd voice acting, can we talk about how odd and disjointed Kaz and Ocelot sound in this cutscene again?

"Miller! ...She saved...the boss!"
"She was shaving...herself!"
It makes me a bit scared about their acting overall in the game
[editline]23rd June 2015[/editline]
I have to say though, Kief sounds great in it
Snake hasn't sounded good since MGS1.
Nothing against Hayter, I quite like his voice, but I hate how he speaks like THIS, after mgsONE, by accentuating every WORD, right before ending the sentence or reaching a COMMA.
Oh my God, I read that in Hayter's words, it's so spot on.

September of last year? Goddamn. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the voice-acting's been revised since then.
Is it just me or does Kaz sound way too different on the Codec compared to in person? I don't just mean in The Phantom Pain, I was a bit concerned during the attack on Mother Base, I thought if that was Kaz, who have I been talking to on codec?
Even Randolph in that recent interview said he thought they were better off after MGS 1 since they "actually knew what they were doing" :v:
Funny that some of the biggest masterpieces came out of disasters in production. Look at movies like The Evil Dead and Apocalypse Now.
If David Hayter does end up being in the game in some way, I think that would go down as the most well kept secret, under the most intense spotlight, ever in video games.
I mean, this is Kojima we're talking about here.
We can blame Kris Zimmerman for that. She apparently wanted to take it in a very different direction. IIRC, she's the one that also wanted Hayter to voice a pirate for BB in Peace Walker instead of something more similar to MGS3.

The writing and voice directors are to blame. Voice actors don't exert a lot of control over how someone needs to sound.
If you got Hayter to read lines from GZ in a certain tone it'd be fine.
Ahhh, that kind of makes it better. So no reason to hate Hayter whatsoever, cool.

It would be like Raiden in MGS2.
I kinda wish we'd see, by the end or something, a recreation of Metal Gear 1 with Solid attacking Outer Heaven or some shit, with a big reveal and Solid saying "kept you waiting huh?"
LET ME DREAM!

If it ended that way I'd be able to die happy.

The latest E3 trailer, I almost couldn't distinguish the voices because of this.
I assume, the characters that talked in it were Skullface (which imo has the correct voice for someone full of vengeful hatered but can still keep calm and collected) Miller, Ocelot, Code Talker and BB in the end?
Ahhh, that kind of makes it better. So no reason to hate Hayter whatsoever, cool.
I'm not so sure about all of this - we don't know what he was told to do for TTS (where everyone sucked) or the DGN voice acting. He didn't do the fantastic MGS1 Snake voice in either, so I don't know whether it's the voice director's fault or if he legitimately can't do it.

Skullface, Miller, Code Talker, Zero, Ocelot and BB iirc

Sometimes you gotta beat a performance into your actors.
Unfortunately, the Japanese don't like to do that.

Who knows if Kojima mindslaved Hayter into ruse cruising us?...
*X-files intro*
But I'll say this. Kiefer sounds great, but I might be heavily biased, because he's always sounded great to me, like in 24, and The Phone Booth.
His voice is great for the kind of person BB is now imo.

This video makes me wonder. What could she have saved Big Boss from? Miller saying that she was saving herself implies that they both were in danger, and the only scene I can think of with that description is in the new trailer with the downed helicopter and the zombie looking characters walking towards them.
Skullface, Miller, Code Talker, Zero, Ocelot and BB iirc
Argh, totally forgot Zero.
The only thing I wish Zero had more, was a bit of... I dunno, evil? Lunacy?
You can hear it in almost everyone. Skullface has the obvious vengeance and "psychoness" in his voice, Miller is also full of vengeance due to what they've done to him, Code Talker sounds a bit vengeful aswell in a "they took my land" kind of way which I guess would suit him?... BB is obvious with his disgust over the cloning project, and Ocelot... Kind of dunno about him...
Zero talks like a typical british person about to innaugurate a plane, like when he said Naked Snake was gonna be the first to HALO jump in MGS3. It doesn't sounds bad, but, shouldn't he have a little hint of mischief in his voice? Sound a weee bit like he went through some stuff, which I guess he kinda did, what with his messed up plans and all?...
(might be totally wrong about this so yeah :v:)
((then again, a prevailing theme of this game will be vengeance, right?))

zero's voice is fucking perfect holy shit what are you smoking
he's calm and collected because he's completely delusional that he's right and big boss is wrong
[editline]23rd June 2015[/editline]
I actually got shivers in the trailer when I heard him, seriously wonder who the voice actor is
tbh I'd actually be pissed if hayter was in the game because this ruse wasn't fun at all
It's also and I don't think the poor guy can say this enough not a ruse in anyway and I feel bad for Hayter that people keep assuming it is

That's what happens when the fanbase is paranoid and autistic as hell.
yes, konami and kojima productions are definitely going to spend so much getting sutherland to do so much voice acting to just have hayter do everything
yes, konami and kojima productions are definitely going to spend so much getting sutherland to do so much voice acting to just have hayter do everything
Well.....it's Kojima we're talking about...
I'm ready to be dismissed because I haven't played the games but I'm extremely happy we have Kiefer in GZ and TPP. Are you telling me you would prefer that horrible pirate voice over much more natural raspy voice?
You might say Hayter could change the voice but BB is even older in TPP and there's a chance they would keep that voice.
I like all the new voices. I really liked Baker in the gameplay demo we just got, I could picture that voice getting gravely and turning into Ocelot's voice from 1.
