[t]http://i.imgur.com/zl4wgNe.jpg[/t]
what is sneaky big boss doing there.
Is portable ops worth emulating? It looks like shit and from what I've seen (which is admittedly very little) plays like shit.
Honestly it's unfair to blame the shitty gameplay on it; the PSP only had one analog stick which severly limited the controls. It did its best though, and is highly preferable to something turn-based like Metal Gear AC!D. Its only fault other than controls is dragging people back to the truck; PW/TPP learned from this by introducing the fulton. I suspect the reason PW doesn't get the same criticism is because most people didn't play it on the PSP, but rather on the Vita or one of the HD versions. All of those added dual stick support. As for the story, it's alright. Kojima didn't direct it so it's only semi-canon, but it's worth playing if you care about the full Metal Gear story.

Having two sticks really helps the gameplay. The plot is okay, nothing remarkable. It does explain where Big Boss got the idea for Outer Heaven, though. Granted, you'd only have 8-way camera support, but it was better than the alternatives.

Yeah dragging each & every person you want to recruit all the way back to the beginning of the level is incredibly tedious, but as soon as you get that first soldier the process becomes infinitely better because you can drag them to your teammate instead of the truck.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/zl4wgNe.jpg[/t]
Ohhh he looks so evil! Lurking in the shadows.

AC!D actually plays better on PSP because one analog stick is more useful for a turn-based game than traditional MGS gameplay.
How important is Peace Walker for MGSV (and Ground Zeroes)? I got the MGS Collection on my vita which didn't come with Peace Walker so I only played MGS2 & 3. I've played GZ but most of it I couldn't really follow.
What's wrong with turn-based? For PO, deviating so significantly from the gameplay of the other main games would have almost certainly been poorly received. I should mention, although PO's controls aren't great, it's still very much playable and enjoyable. I remember being quite excited for a mobile MGS game with gameplay like the others after having played AC!D.
I played both Portable Ops and Peace Walker on PSP and I can attest that Peace Walker controlled alot better. I used the face buttons to control the camera and the analogue to move. If you tried a layout like that on Portable Ops you'd run into problems. Off the top of my head, the dive-roll move would be difficult to pull off on Portable ops in that case since you need to press the crouch button whilst running, but in Peace Walker it was the attack button.
What is Raiden doing in Dying Light. Quinton Flynn didn't even get a voice credit for this, what the fuck.
Actually VR Missions was kind of tied in. You didn't have to go through it all to get what was going on though. Unbelievably major spoilers up ahead if you haven't finished MGS 1 and 2 yet: [sp]Officially MGS 1 and the VR missions expansion were written to be the VR simulations Raiden went through as a kind of indoctrination session before being put through S3 proper at the Big Shell by GW. The ultimate point of course being to prove that the SOP system could reliably generate or supress certain traits and emotions at will and effectively manipulate and control one's own state of consciousness. Starting out the goal was to try to control the flow of digital information generated by individuals in a bid to harmonize the global community and advance the evolution of the species, but then after suddenly (unintentionally) finding perpetual war as the best means of sustaining and preserving itself, to produce highly skilled ready-made, disillusioned, highly manipulable soldiers (a la Raiden) and really take them to the next level of being a commodity.[/sp] Even though it really isn't I'm still always gonna look at the Twin Snakes as Raiden's Shadow Moses. That's just me though. [editline]25th June 2015[/editline] Like the entire segment in MGS 2 with the colonel going nuts references it and the RAY fight happens on the VR staging platform.
So, the part where Snake kind of quickscopes Wolf, and hops off of a STINGER missile, are all Raiden's fault? :v:
It's the Patriots. Only their (subjective) evil could permit such a travesty.
Wording of that sounds kind of strange to me. Which version of MGS did you play? [editline]25th June 2015[/editline] Raiden is the only one I could see pulling stupid stuff like that anyways. Here let me just flip six feet up around this open doorway They made it look like he has a wire on him
What else could he of played but the very game you're describing?
Decided to play MGS1 since it's just sitting there on my desk. It will be the first time i've played it by myself in full since last time i played it, i had someone watching over me. It's not gone too well so far...
Sorry if this was already talked about, but I can't find reference to it anywhere. Here I can clearly see a few things: An anti-air radar, a helmet, a camera, a pistol, a crescent moon and a sniper crosshair. I'm guessing these are the countermeasures or resources that the enemy employs against you. I'm not sure if these are just the ones that are installed after you complete a mission to repel using the same tactic over and over again, or if they are a more general representation of what to expect when playing the mission. The anti-air radar clearly signifies that attempting to land a helicopter there is pointless, the helmet shows that enemies have helmets, the camera shows that there is surveillance throughout the mission area, the gun I'm assuming means enemies are armed - does this mean some missions could feature no armed enemies at all? Now, the sniper crosshair is obvious - snipers are present. But I can't wrap my head around the crescent moon - does it mean that they have searchlights and additional patrols at night to deter a nocturnal approach?

See, I can't tell if it's a Fulton counter-measure or an Anti-Air radar. To me it would make more sense to announce the latter, I guess, but more anti-Fulton equipment could be fun to fight. [editline]26th June 2015[/editline] I'm going to Fulton the anti-Fulton gear

snip forgot a few million scenes of flips by Snake and Fox aswell as I'm late :v: second edit: wow those look even more ridiculous than I remember... MGS1 on PS1/PC or nothing, period. I am really tempted in just getting TPP on the PS3, since apparently I won't have a new PC or PS4 any time soon.
What are you having trouble with, and what difficulty level are you on?
Its nothing major, i generally just suck at stealth. I've played more of all the other games and yet this really is just my second playthrough of the first game in years. Getting used to just the general feel of the first game is a small obstacle, pressing circle instead of cross to enter is another one. I never got used to that shit. I was wanting to hold back on the MGS binge till the end of july but i might spend a fair bit of time on Peace Walker. At this point i'd be playing through the Ace Combat's but my sodding ps2 controler's busted. And by the looks of things, the game looks a bit darker than i remember it. Might have something to do with the PS3 maybe? I'm not too sure. I'll feel more at home once i'm on MGS2. Already dealt with the tank and soon enough, it will be "ding ding".
i can't wait for the phantom pain to find out if Nuke survived the end of gz
I can't get past the first couple areas in TTS because of the horribly shitty controls. Mgs 2, 3 on the Vita has better controls than it. Edit woah u guys r 2 quick

Even at reduced graphics the 360 and PS3 run GZ at 20 FPS half the time. TPP will likely be more resource intensive than GZ, so they're probably gonna have to cut down on the graphics even more.
I'm guessing they only bothered with last gen so they could make more money since less people had PS4s and X1s at the time
I'm guessing they only bothered with last gen so they could make more money since less people had PS4s and X1s at the time
They're putting TPP on next gen still tho so it's weird.
They're putting TPP on next gen still tho so it's weird.
It's sort of a requirement. Can't just put Ground Zeroes on PS3/360 when Kojima admitted in an interview it's basically a demo, and then make The Phantom Pain restricted to the next-gen only. The backlash would be pretty large. Which means even more stress for Kojima and his team because they have to make this entire game and keep it under very specific limitations so they can tone it down just enough for the previous generation - not to mention dedicate time to said toning down.
