I'm interested to see how I'll feel about #4 again, since it's the only one in the series I've never replayed or gone through again in anyway, and I'm excited to see if I still like it, as I remember despite my irritations thinking it was a masterful ending to an amazxing series. But yeah, going through 2 again, listening to all the codec calls post Arsenal, and the conversation with GW is just so fucking perfect. I'm hoping V brings back some of that feeling, going up against something in total complete control that we don't understand, but at the same time, talks some sense, and while it's methods may be morally questionable it's results do seem to be for the best. All the stuff with Solidus too, ahhgh. Such a good moral conflict without having to resort to black and whites. It's what I love about MGS, really the only straight "evil" villain in the entire series is Volgin and I guess Hot coldman but, I didn't want to have to think about peace walkers story
really the only straight "evil" villain in the entire series is Volgin and I guess Hot coldman but, I didn't want to have to think about peace walkers story
Volgin wanted to deter the living shit out of every other country in the world with the Shagohod and The Cobra Unit because he thought it would end the Cold War. Coldman and Volgin practically have the same plan but Coldman managed to be a shittier and more retarded character than Volgin. Ocelot's plan was pretty fucking evil too now that I think about it.
"Hot coldman" is probably one of the series lowest points it's fine to like Peace walker as a game because base management and weapon R&D was fun (and clearly liked enough to be back for TPP) but the story of peace walker is just flat out embarassing 20 hours just for big boss to admit he's done being sad about muh boss and to announce he's calling himself big boss and then he pulls a 180 on that
"Humans will never find courage to launch a nuke. I will now cite an event in history when people nearly launched a fucking nuke." - Hot Coldman
What if BB is just Bi-Polar and when he's happy he wants to be called BB but when he's not he wants other names.
What's wrong with his name being Hot Coldman? I kinda like it, definitely has a Bond villain flair to it.

WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG indeed.
This reminds me of that anonymous American genius who decided that dropping depth charges at nuclear missile armed soviet submarine was a great idea. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG indeed.
I don't think they knew it was a nuclear armed sub. Could have been a recon sub that was probing. Their main intent was to force it to surface for identification. Apparently they were practice depth charges as well.
What's wrong with his name being Hot Coldman? Hot Coldman is [sp]literally a stingy CIA strategist fuck who shoves a cripple down some stairs for refusing to work with him, and then rants at length about how launching a nuke is going to save the world through deterrence.[/sp] And unlike Volgin, who [sp]brutally beats Snake, Eva, Sokolov, and Granin to the point that by the end of the story you absolutely loathe him but runs the full gambit of explaining his plans to Snake's face,[/sp] Hot doesn't even really get much besides being a manipulator and a mad raving asshole. Everyone says he's insane and we see that, but his characterization is very barebones even compared to Volgin.
That's a lot of spoilers in that post, I sure do love to see that immediately after starting my first time marathon of the series
That's a lot of fucking spoilers in that post, I sure do love to see that immediately after starting my first time marathon of the series
Sorry, it's easy to forget new players still approach the series and a lot of stuff's casually mentioned at random with no commentary about spoilers.
So, after an incredible 6 hour marathon session, today we completed Part 2 of "Operation : Get my girlfriend into Metal Gear Solid". It's been working so far. The other plan is to get her sufficiently into it she pays for at least, like, half of a Phantom Pain collectors edition.
Are you watching the KefkaProductions movie versions? They're the best by far, IMO. Also in 4 he overlays some of the lesser importance codec conversations over some not-so-important gameplay to save time. It really cuts down on the inane amount of time it would otherwise take to watch 4. Also make sure to go in release order and not skip Metal Gear 1 and 2 (They're only like an hour and a half total anyways). MG1 -> MG2 -> MGS1 -> MGS2 -> MGS3 -> Portable Ops (yes don't skip this one either) -> MGS4 -> Peace Walker -> GZ then V.
its really hard to not skip mg1/2 and poops mg1 and 2 have aged really poorly and generally are impenetrable if you don't play retro games regularly, and poops has bad controls (which peace walker fixed even on psp)
"watching" Unless you're talking about your personal experience playing them, in which case I dunno. I didn't have any issues but maybe others do. If you're not gonna play them you should definitely watch them instead. Just don't skip them. Big Boss literally influences the entire rest of the series, it's a shame how often people skip MG1 and 2.
I've compiled all of the MGR Kazoo covers and made them into an album, learned a few things along the way too. [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/NwW9XI.png[/t] Have fun.
On the subject of Hot Coldman; it's obviously a codename. I seriously think that "Hot Coldman" is no weirder than "Solid Snake". The Metal Gear franchise is just extremely shy about using real names for no real reason. Would knowing David's surname really change anything?

Let's not forget Feels Goodman.

Even Oddman is kind of cool, though.
I had a mini revelation about the latest trailer even though it reveals no new information. Skullface envisions a world "sans lingua franca" - without a bridge language. Both Major Zero and the Patriots are also called Cipher. A cipher is a document that lets you translate one language into another. Skullface could literally be talking about a world without the Patriots. But we already knew from GZ that he was after Zero so whatever.

YO WHATS UP SEATTLE ARE YOU READY FOR SLIM THICKMAN!?
I wonder if they'll put The Phantom Pain up for pre-order on Steam
I lost it at Top Kekman
wet dryman is the new mr. clean

Skullface is going to use it to set the world free.
I never actually tried MGS2 in extreme and now that I did, it feels like a totally new game that I can learn and experience and that's pretty fucking cool(and hard)
I couldn't get past Fatman on European Extreme. I swear the only workable strategy is to stunlock him by shooting his skates and head, but I could never bother learning the timing.
Fuck Emma on the extreme difficulty.
Brb, beginning an extreme playthrough of mgs2
The [sp]Emma on the walkway[/sp] and the [sp]Arsenal Tengu[/sp] are really the only hard parts of extreme difficulty.
yees, after 15 minutes of ROCKETS peace walker 2 managed to throw the nuke while i was out of ROCKETS myself it had one bar of health left i don't want to do this again oh god
