Extreme is like the only way to play MGS2/3. Seems like it's the only difficulty where the AI uses its full potential. Prepare to die under a circle jerk of riot shields and shotguns.
I've been playing MGS3 on European Extreme for years, playing on lower difficulties just feels wrong.
Seems like it's the only difficulty where the AI uses its full potential.
The difference between Normal and Extreme is really noticeable, I love it, I regret not trying it out for so long and now being good in normal difficulty feels like a child's play compared to this one.
MGS1 finished with Hyena rank, straight on to MGS2.
I wonder how non-lethal is going to be handled if you're now supposed to be turning into a bad guy.
I wonder how non-lethal is going to be handled if you're now supposed to be turning into a bad guy.
"Bad guy" is incredibly subjective. Kojima already said he doesn't want to write villains; just people with differing viewpoints. Remember, for all the horrible things each of the MG villains did, most of them were doing what they thought was right. [sp]Solidus did nothing wrong.[/sp]
well solidus might've done nothing wrong except employ child soldiers, kill civilians to steal children and threaten to detonate a nuclear bomb over manhattan so you know he wasn't exactly mother theresa
well [sp]solidus[/sp] might've done nothing wrong except employ child soldiers, kill civilians to steal children and threaten to detonate a nuclear bomb over manhattan so you know he wasn't exactly mother theresa
[sp]Solidus may have done a few things wrong.[/sp]
I wonder how non-lethal is going to be handled if you're now supposed to be turning into a bad guy.
Being the good guy or the bad guy is a matter of perspective. Volgin was trying to end the Cold War, but he wasn't a good guy by any means. Solid Snake is a 'good guy' but he's an international terrorist who traded weapons in multiple global conflicts. Big Boss is a bad guy in MG because you're told he's the bad guy. Also, by the end of Peace Walker BB has a Metal Gear armed with a nuke, and in Ground Zeroes they try to hide it from a UN inspection. MSF aren't the good guys.
Big Boss only wanted to engulf the world in a cycle of endless war, saying that's evil is just a matter of opinion really.
Big Boss only wanted to engulf the world in a cycle of endless war, saying that's evil is just a matter of opinion really.
I can't tell if this is sarcasm
Big Boss only wanted to engulf the world in a cycle of endless war, saying that's evil is just a matter of opinion really.
He started out because he saw war as an inevitability and didn't want to see soldier used as tools for their governments to be discarded once they've served their purpose. You know, like The Boss was. Metal Gear 1 and 2 have also been retconned and ignored so hard they're barely canon any more.
I can't tell if this is sarcasm
It's sarcasm, I just mean to say that the idea of subjective evil falls flat when you consider Big Boss becoming the most evil character in the series. His only justification was that he's giving people purpose.
He started out because he saw war as an inevitability and didn't want to see soldier used as tools for their governments to be discarded once they've served their purpose. You know, like The Boss was. Metal Gear 1 and 2 have also been retconned and ignored so hard they're barely canon any more.
Honestly, they haven't been retconned that much. Nothing has ever contradicted the part where Big Boss said this:
The nightmares? They never go away, Snake. Once you've been on the battlefield, tasted the exhilaration, the tension... it all becomes part of you. Once you've awakened the warrior within... it never sleeps again. You crave ever bigger tensions, ever bigger thrills. As a mercenary, I'd think you would have realized that by now. You care nothing for power, or money, or even sex. The only thing that satisfies your cravings is war! All I've done is give you a place for it. I've given you a reason to live. [...] Start a war, fan its flames, create victims... Then save them, train them... And feed them back onto the battlefield. It's a perfectly logical system.
That's Big Boss' idea of "Outer Heaven" in action, an ideal that was referenced by the villains of MGS1, MGS2 and MGS4. It's remained firmly canon throughout.

Having played that recently, I'm still not over the fact that Snake looks like Mel Gibson and BB looks like Sean Connery.
Fuck Emma on the extreme difficulty.
To me, this is awkward to read, considering that I know a person named Emma IRL, or used to know.
To me, this is awkward to read, considering that I know a person named Emma IRL, or used to know.
Well, what are you waiting for, fuck her on extreme difficulty.
considering all the spoilers that weren't marked in the last few pages, should I just avoid this thread until I finish the MGS legacy collection?
considering all the spoilers that weren't marked in the last few pages, should I just avoid this thread until I finish the MGS legacy collection?
That's the safest bet.

That quote reads like he honestly thinks that he's doing a good thing for soldiers. I think the TPP trailers show that he knows he's evil ("I'm already a demon" and such), but he's not doing what he's doing just to be evil. He isn't The Joker. He's fighting The Patriots and giving soldiers a place in life; that's what Big Boss thinks is right to do, even if he has go do evil shit to get it done.
Also, by the end of Peace Walker BB has a Metal Gear armed with a nuke, and in Ground Zeroes they try to hide it from a UN inspection. MSF aren't the good guys.
They're not good guys by any stretch of the imagination, but Big Boss and MSF as a whole never really planned on using ZEKE's nuke. It was a deterrent, an empty threat that they wouldn't carry out, but would scare people so badly that they wouldn't take any chances. Hell, most countries did (and still do) the same thing. That's what the Cold War was all about.
That's the safest bet.
we love you newfriends but if you want to avoid getting spoiled the easiest way to do it is to know hang around active discussion threads unless ya wanna run the risk I think it's just easier that way than considering everything a spoiler, seeing how goddarn dense these games are full of plot and twists casaually discussing the plot of just about any of them could be considered spoilers
mg1 and 2 have aged really poorly and generally are impenetrable if you don't play retro games regularly
What are you talking about, Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 have aged pretty gracefully compared to a lot of games from that era.
They're not good guys by any stretch of the imagination, but Big Boss and MSF as a whole never really planned on using ZEKE's nuke. The Phantom Pain can't be BB's transformation into a bad guy when he already meets all the series criteria for that role.

Was it some kind of supercharged lighter and an aerossol can with enough power to send someone flying away, or just a can of lacker spray and a regular lighter?

The Phantom Pain can't be BB's transformation into a bad guy when he already meets all the series criteria for that role.
Having a Metal Gear is not the be-all-end-all of being a bad guy in MGS. It's usually the villains who have them, yes, but having a Metal Gear isn't the reason they're a villain. [editline]29th June 2015[/editline] Speaking of Metal Gear Zeke, I really hate that they used Hal just to get the Otacon-type character in the game to make the Metal Gear. And also how he was so anti-nuke but then when Big Boss gets the nuke he's like "HAHA THAT'S OK" (assuming he really didn't sick XOF on mother base for that reason).
How does one even burn from that? Was it some kind of supercharged lighter and an aerossol can with enough power to send someone flying away, or just a can of lacker spray and a regular lighter?
It looked like the latter, though it took 20-25 shots to [sp]eventually cover BB in flames, causing him to slowly whither around, before falling to the ground and exploding (the last part was probably just a boss thing).[/sp]
How funny would it be if Big Boss had a microbomb too so whenever you died in TPP you would explode
How funny would it be if Big Boss had a microbomb too so whenever you died in TPP you would explode
[sp]Had BB not shown up later, I would love to see him get a microbomb implanted at the end to symbolize how his journey to become Big Boss started (when Paz exploded). Of course, that's ruined now, but it would have been interesting.[/sp]
why couldn't Liquid possess somebody who wasn't Ocelot he's my favourite character and being possessed means he just isn't around at all in mgs4
why couldn't Liquid possess somebody who wasn't Ocelot he's my favourite character and being possessed means he just isn't around at all in mgs4
[sp]IIRC, he was never possessed by Liquid in MGS4. Hes even missing Liquid's arm, being replaced with a bionic one[/sp]
Game Grumps have started playing Metal Gear on Grumpcade with ProJared, I guess that saves me the trouble of playing it
