Buy the MGS HD Collection which includes Metal Gear 1, Metal Gear 2, MGS2, MGS3, and Peace Walker. Buy MGS1 and and MGS4 separately, emulate Portable Ops on PC or your phone, and you're good to go.
Less complicated to simply buy the Legacy Collection. There are online sellers out there who still have tons of brand new stock and sell it for fairly cheap (~$30) on Amazon and eBay. Since it's brand new, the MGS1 code is unused. So that takes care of the entire main series sans Portable Ops (which like you said isn't really necessary). GZ and TPP also have PS3 versions, so you really do just need a PS3 to play the whole series. (Just cementing the point here; PS3 obviously isn't the most ideal way to play MGSV.)
Oh I'm getting TPP on PC. I did emulate MGS on my school laptop, but PS2 emulators are a bitch to set up so I just said fuck it and watched the rest. I feel like it would be a waste of money to buy them at this point now that I already know everything that happens.
They are still great games to play through even if you know the story. Metal Gear Solid 3 especially have tons of replay value.
I find that kind of confusing. If it's your favorite series in the world shouldn't you have played one?
I don't understand how someone can enjoy watching someone play a video game if it's not a speedrun yet the most popular threads here are for lets plays and livewatching so there must be some joy in watching it. I see obese dudes in football jerseys all the time but I don't question it anymore.

I need to buy a new PS3 since my brother took the original model with him. That said it'd be great if Konami would just port the Legacy Collection to PC. Kojima said the only reason MGS4 couldn't come to 360 is because it would take seven discs to do so (and digital downloads hadn't really matured at the time). PC doesn't have that issue. If the Legacy Collection got ported, every MGS game could be played natively on PC sans Portable Ops which can easily be emulated. Though the MGS1 PC port needs some serious updating.
Keep in mind that in the Japanese version of Metal Gear Solid 4 Liquid Ocelot is voiced by Banjō Ginga, the same guy who voiced Liquid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 1.
Yeah because Ocelot's VA fucking died. And then he was replaced for the DGNs, which is weird since Kojima said he'd never have Campbell in another Metal Gear since HIS voice actor died. I guess Kojima wasn't a fan of Koji Totani.

The gameplay of 2 and 3 are worth experiencing in their own right. And if you haven't played Metal Gear 1, 2, and MGS Peace Walker I'd say it's worth it. It's only $15-30, I spend more than that in a single meal sometimes :v:
his cool advice to [sp]just die to Hind D, imagine how thrilling it was for me when he would find out that it was Liquid[/sp].
Que?
Is there a way to mod GZ PC to increase the amount of enemies that can be displayed on-screen at one time? I was fucking around in GZ again and had the idea of moving every soldier on the base to the helipad and then holding them all up for a cool picture, but once I started moving them there I realized that it was only allowing five or six soldiers to actually load in at a time. Really disappointing.
Que?
Maybe it's him or me mistaking it for something else, I found this codec dialogue that might be it, look at the end of it [sp]Snake: Master, you and I...we're nothing more than dogs, are we? Master Miller: That's not like you, Snake...Don't let what Sniper Wolf said bother you. Snake: .......... Master Miller: Listen. There's not a soldier alive that doesn't question himself. And if there is one, he's nothing more than a murderer. But someone like Wolf...a soldier who's looking for nothing more than their own death is no good to anyone either. Once she started to look for death, it was all over. That's how you'll end up too, Snake... [/sp]
[sp]Personally, i'll stick with him being actually possessed. Like, even if it was all a ruse, why did he change arms?[/sp]
[sp]It's kinda unclear why he changed his arm out, but it's crystal clear that he was never really possessed. I don't think his arm being different was ever even brought up in MGS4, or at least I don't remember anything about it at all. Maybe it wasn't changed at all, but they decided to change how it looked? idk[/sp]

YES! YES! YES!!! Even my feet are sweaty, the last 30 minutes of this game, holy shit. Just when you think "That was a huge climax, but now it's over!" It throws you something bigger, and a couple of times in a row! Now it's time for Metal Gear Solid on PS1. It's all ready to go, but I need to lie down for a bit.

That sounds like an intentional limit or a limit left over from consoles, to be honest.
I hope getting Quiet and DD as buddies isn't easy to miss. I don't want to miss out on getting them just because I didn't do some cryptic bullshit.
I hope getting Quiet and DD as buddies isn't easy to miss. I dunno about Diamond Walker or DD though.
It seems like getting Quiet is integral to the story, but after that she's liable to be killed off. I dunno about Diamond Walker or DD though.
To me it seems like [sp]Diamond Walker is something you have to create, which will trigger its own minor story parts to a degree, and DD was confirmed to be completely missable if you don't keep an eye out for him. Quiet is a case where she does seem integral to the story, but it also seems like either recruiting her is optional as a 'first buddy' or killing her, or alternatively it's easier for her to be killed somehow since partners apparently can't die on the field now.[/sp]

I think D-Walker [sp]was mentioned in a side-op where you have to retrieve plans for it[/sp].
It seems like getting Quiet is integral to the story, but after that she's liable to be killed off. I dunno about Diamond Walker or DD though.
[sp]Honestly, it only /seems/ like Quiet is integral- I'm sure that, if you happen to kill her in mission, the story plays out slightly differently than if you take her down nonlethally. Diamond Walker is a sidequest, and DD seems to be very easy to find (you can find him as early as mission 3, and will just be in the desert), though easy to miss.[/sp]

Also I don't think there's any reason to spoiler tag what we've got here, lol. These characters don't exist in previous games and we only know as much as anyone else who watched the trailers.
i thought they said in a gameplay demo once that you get quiet in a side op.
based on the gameplay demo, it seems that if your buddy gets too damaged in a fight they will be Fultoned automatically. But what if you're indoors when you switch out/extract a buddy?

Couldn't find a thread for this but About P.T why didn't they just sell the "game" to another publisher? So bummed that it's not gonna get made
