It's funny, final battle with Liquid was the hardest boss in the game for me (according to retries and shaking hands), but at the same time it was the boss that I thought would be the easiest after a few couple of hits. The ending car chase was unexpected and felt brilliantly, especially for PS1, and especially after a mostly calm gameplay from a fixed camera angle. Snake's monologue at the very end felt a bit funny, he was way more optimistic and happy than I'm comfortable with :v:

oh don't worry, MGS2 fixes that whole "happiness" thing real quick

I had no idea there was an NES version of Metal Gear Solid

That's because Metal Gear Solid was supposed to be the last of the original trilogy of MG1, MG2, then MGS. That's why the endings have a "it's finally over" feel to it.
Hey I just saw Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on sale. It's 70% off.

Never played any other MGS game except GZ and a small bit of MGS1. I assume getting it is a nobrainer.
MGS4 is on sale too. Do I get it too?

just 6.7 pound
Get them. You will not regret it.
Bought them. Realized it didn't have MGS, gonna use an emulator for that I think.
Strange question. I have a friend who is interested in the metal gear series but he doesn't speak English very well. Do any of the games have official Hebrew translations? When I googled it, I just found the lyrics to the love song from MGS4.

The thing is about emulators is that they are kinda iffy. The emulator I used made it impossible to beat [sp]the scene where you fight Liquid when he's chasing you in a jeep[/sp] and also made some of the cutscenes have very bright strobing lights.
You found the game's Briefing prologue on the main menu too right?
Only after I completed the game and selected every option just to be sure I haven't missed anything before moving on. I always assumed it would just play the intro video until that point.

Didn't Kojima plan MGS2 to be the last game, before they made him make MGS3? Maybe that's just different plans in different times.
He makes every game like it's the last game because each one takes so much out of him

I recommend this: https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-gb/games/metal-gear-solid/cid=EP0101-NPEF00036_00-GMETALGEAR000001
It's gonna be a better experience than an emulator, imo.

He's said that for literally every MGS. It was partly because they kept having him make more, and partly because he thinks nobody else could do the series justice.

O shit thanks, I completely missed that.

I feel like it would've helped if he stopped intentionally putting unsolved plot threads at the very end of the credits with phone calls.
Not that im complaining, of course, but you'd think if you were positive you wanted it to be your last, you wouldnt intentionally tease something to come.

Ya I don't know how they intended MGS2 to be the last. [sp]I was fine with the Patriots being ambiguous as fuck, but the conflict between Snake and Liquid definitely needed more resolution.[/sp]

Honestly, I'm sure he would have gone back to the storyline eventually, but because he said MGS3 would be his last (assumingly for a while), people yelled at him to finish up the storylines (rightfully so, I suppose). Then we got 4 the way we did, and we all know how that turned out.
Actually, i just thought.
Unless it ties directly into MG1 and closes the gap, theres going to be a tease phone call at the end of this game too, and we're gonna be pissed because it'll never be expanded on.

To be fair, MGS3's tease [sp]wasn't very open. It was just a plot revelation that fit into what we already knew.[/sp] Maybe MGSV will follow suit.
Well MGS3's little post credits call didn't really need to be expanded upon. I imagine V will do something similar.

It'll either tie in to MG1 (Big Boss's first words to snake when he climbs up onto Outer Heaven maybe?), or a plot twist that still ties into the future game's story [sp](a young solidus, possibly? That'd be interesting.)[/sp]
In other news, I've finally beat MGS1 and got Codename Puma! The last two boss fights were bullshit, but overall I had an awesome time. Now I'm seriously considering picking up a PS3 (been wanting to for a while, now) and get the HD collection. What would be the best kind of PS3 to buy (preferably a cheap one I can get off Gamestop's site), and will there be a sale soon for when the HD Collection will be cheaper? (40 bucks is probably worth it for them, but I have a feeling it'll get discounted between now and September).

There's a huge sale on amazon on the 12th if I'm not mistaken. That would be the best time to get a PS3. I'd recommend getting the Legacy edition over the HD edition personally.
The phone call is gonna end up like this.
[sp]Yes sir, we got Big Boss into Foxhound without arousing any suspicion. It wasn't an easy task though. I'll be expecting extra payment.
It was hard to predict what he was going to do next, he is definitely the disciple of the legendary Boss. My time with him revealed that to me more then ever. The pieces are in play now, and you have me to thank. Remember that Major.[/sp]
[sp]It took some work, but as far as they know Chico has been dead for years now. They don't know that it's been me Chico, pulling the strings since Day 1.[/sp]

Thanks, that's actually pretty helpful. I'd get the Legacy Collection if it was digital, but because it's not I might just grab the HD editions of 2 and 3 (I have Peace Walker on my PSP) were they to go on sale.

How are you set for MGS4?

4 was the closest we ever got to a definite ending.
All of the loose threads were tied up (maybe too many), and we already knew about Big Boss's story in 3 and Portable Ops.
Peace Walker and V are kind of unneeded, but they're still really good (well, I'm sure V is gonna be good).

I'm wrong, the sale is on the 15th.

Tpp would be a good ending
but then we'd have MG1 and 2 with retcons and stuff
Ok, MGS on Normal difficulty is harder than I expected.
How are you set for MGS4?
I...honestly think I'll just be watching it on youtube. It'd be 20 bucks cheaper and I could make it go faster if it starts to slog. If it goes cheap like I feel the other MGS games will (Ground Zeroes on PS+ last month? Makes total sense), I might pick it up.
Ok, MGS on Normal difficulty is harder than I expected.
Even on Easy there were parts that got hard (maybe I just suck, though)
On another note what the hell is up with your avatar

This has always been a pipedream of mine (especially now that Kojima is RIP), but I really want Kojima to remake the entire series, corrections and all, into one big game on the Fox engine for PC and all the consoles like 5 to 10 years from now.
