• Metal Gear Solid - VIIII - A Hideo Kojima Thread - PLAY THEM ALL IN RELEASE ORDER

I want to know why people ask what order to play or watch anything in If it's a numbered series you typically start with number 1 and then work your way forward I'm not sure why people new to the series think metal gear is any different
"Because I heard a couple games take place before the other ones!" generally seems to be why
but i mean would you watch godfather part II before part I? no, cuz that's dumb

It's this weird thing with prequels where people think watching them first is better or may fill them in. In terms of video games this is almost never the case, because almost every single time the prequels heavily allude to their future storyline in a previous game or the game mechanics improve in a way that only really feels satisfying with each successive installment, prequel or sequel.
I will await the "RRRRRROKETTU PAAUWNCHH" sound mod with baited breath after release.
You say that like Kojima won't just put that in the game from the start.
I know it would be less fun but the speed of the rocket punch is damn slow.
I know it would be less fun but the speed of the rocket punch is damn slow.
You hold R2 to accelerate it. Also its supposed to be the new Nikita, i think.
I know it would be less fun but the speed of the rocket punch is damn slow.
Nah I agree the rocket punch should be faster. It'd be less useful, but would add more challenge to using it. I'd like that; being able to fly a swerving path through a building from a long range seems pretty OP to me.

You can even hear Akio say 'NIKITA' shortly after the punch starts, so it's pretty obvious it's the game's equivalent. [sp]and then someone replays the Quiet boss fight and rocket punches her repeatedly like Sniper Wolf[/sp]
That non-lethal battle rifle makes my dick hard. So many choices this time.
I know that seems like such a nothing addition, but in MGS4 and PW between the massive amounts of weapons in the game I was still using the tranq pistol 90% of the time just because I like non lethal. It seems like now most weapon types have non-lethal variants. We've at least got non lethal shotguns, sniper rifles, assault rifles, submachine guns, and pistols, and I wouldn't be surprised if we got sleep gas grenade launchers and shit as well.
That non-lethal battle rifle makes my dick hard. So many choices this time.
I like that it's basically doing the opposite of MGS4. There were a couple of methods of non-lethal playthroughs and a shitton of lethal weaponry, but the game was so linear that besides the mini-sandbox approach in the first two chapters the lethal weapons only really had use for boss fights unless you didn't mind going on killing sprees. And those going for specific codenames such as Big Boss essentially can't use 85% of the entire arsenal. Now we have all sorts of non-lethal and lethal weaponry alongside varied customization so that we have a whole lot of ways to play as we please.
Hell, you might be able to customize most guns to be non lethal. If you look at the part in the loadout screen where he hovers over it, the description doesn't mention it being non-lethal specifically.
It's obvious that they'll probably cost a fortune of GMP though.
Maybe the Rocket Punch code could be reused for remote controlled missiles/Nikita in an MG/MGS remake... interesting.
I can't wait to drop directly into an enemy compound with all the loud non-lethal shit, send the whole place into high alert, tranq everyone and everything in the area, fulton it all and extract in like five minutes. Steal an entire stronghold out from under the enemy before they have time to blink.
I hope there are more NPC types that you can recruit other than POW and Soldier. It felt weird that the best people in my R&D team during Peace Walker were enemy snipers. The way I see it, there should be dedicated NPC classes that correlate to the personnel classes. For example, each enemy base should have a dedicated medic, and they're much more likely to be proficient in the Medical Team than in the Combat Unit. Obviously don't spell this out to the player so they can make their own deductions. Along with this, their could be mechanics and scientists that are spawned to fix any damage the player has done. Damaged an anti-air emplacement? The enemy can call in a mechanic to repair the damage, fulton him to almost definitely get an R&D recruit. What I'm saying is that soldiers shouldn't be randomly more proficient at certain sects of MSF/DD without explanation. If anything, it would be better for the player too. Instead of waiting until after the mission to see if you fultoned someone good enough to help you get that new rocket launcher, the player can make intelligent decisions to increase the diversity of DD.
I'm all for finding other NPCs. Weren't there scientists in Portable Ops? Maybe we can get some doctors from Cyrus if we get the ability to go back there.
I'm also hoping that the origin of your soldier has an impact on their combat abilities. Spetsnaz should be much better than rebels, although that comes naturally. I'm also hoping that there's more of a difference than statistically. For example, Spetsnaz are trained to use combat rolls, so maybe any Spetsnaz recruits could be able to do that? If not in side ops/extra ops/MGO/whatever then maybe when you [sp]have to fight your own troops[/sp] [editline]7th July 2015[/editline] My merge damn. Feel like I'm posting way too much, sorry.

What late-game/after-completion/after-100%-completion items or weapons do you guys want to see? Stuff like the Infinity Bandana and Tux. I'd like to see OctoCamo return like it did in MGO3. Maybe also get back the Fulton rocket launcher from Peace Walker too.

I just want to see the triumphant return of Alligator.
