Save every single prisoner, it'll get you a S Rank regardless of how you play the rest of the mission.

You can restart from checkpoints, it doesn't matter. All that matters is saving the prisoners.
I just played through the GZ mission today. There are 6 prisoners including Chico and Paz, right? I got only an A rank from that. Granted, it took me 50 minutes because my brother wanted to watch all the cutscenes.
Also, is my understanding of the ending of MGS2 accurate?

Ya you pretty much got it.
I heard that you can pretty much do whatever you like in GZ and still get S rank as long as you rescue all the prisoners and don't have to restart from checkpoints. I might be wrong though.

I usually go through the middle of the camp to get Paz first and then drop her down by the shore near Chico, call the chopper and then grab Chico. There's surprisingly not that many guards in the middle of the camp.
Alright, so seeing as I just saved everyone but Paz I can just quickly rush through the whole thing, get her and then evac? Can I evac using the roads?

Has to be by chopper.

There's a last prisoner somewhere in the base that's not sitting with Chico at the camp.
You can just stack all of them in the cave by the LZ and put them all in the chopper at once with Chico, and then go get Paz. Pretty sure you can even get Paz as well in one run.
MGS2 plot
That's a fairly good rendition of things. I can't really correct anything without spoiling MGS4, so enjoy that roller coaster when ya get to it :v:
Most people have trouble with the "WHY" part, not the the "what". Most of which is explained in MGS4 so again, enjoy that when you get to it lol.

Right in front of the gate at the start there's a small camp. Go down there, and in the farthest corner by the guard tower, there's a prisoner.
I've gotten to the point where I find myself checking this multiple times in the same day.

so if you want to get an s rank based on TIME alone, this is my favorite way to S rank GZ:

although there is another way i normally use, involving grabbing chico first. thing is, once you grab chico and put him on a helicopter, then grab paz, there is a very short amount of time before guards realize she's missing which sends the guards everywhere on alert and thus into a different patrol pattern, which can mess up your speed run. i escort chico at the cave, then escort paz at the starting cliff. i get to paz by being fast enough to catch a truck before it has started to move, jump in, then get out at the gate and run into the admin building from the closest door. then i beeline from there with paz, straight through the helipad, and to the cliff.
This was way easier before the E3 gameplay demo. I was actually kind of temporarily dehyped after all the relative silence and with shit like Fallout 4 being thrown around.
Now it's like, these 50 days might as well be those last 3 years.
I'm just trying not to think about MGSV until it arrives at my doorstep.
I think that the post credits phone call is going to be the biggest spoiler of the whole game
I pre-ordered my collectors edition to be delivered to gamestop. If they don't have it on sept 1st, I'm going to be on fire.

would you say you'd go [sp]nuclear[/sp]?
So Coldman wants to prove that deterrence is flawed because human beings would never press the button by tricking peace walker into launching a nuke essentially pushing the button himself.
Great plan dude.

He's not saying that a human wouldn't launch a nuke, he's saying a human wouldn't effectively destroy the world by starting a nuclear war.
He's launching a nuke under the assumption that it won't start a nuclear war.
I'm probably just going to pick up my copy at gamestop. Last time I ordered a game through amazon, it took a week after release to arrive. MGS V is not a game that I can wait an extra week for.
If anyone was in doubt about the rumors before, Akio Otsuka (Japanese voice for Snake) has confirmed on Twitter that Kojima Productions is officially disbanded as work on TPP is wrapping up:
Kojima Productions was forced to disband, but it appears that the work that the team has been putting their utmost effort into is nearly complete. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I expect it will become their greatest masterpiece. I couldn’t help it. I just wanted to say ‘Kept you waiting, huh?’ (Laughs.) But even if this is the end, Metal Gear Solid is immortal
This is good, isn't it...?

And starting nuclear war is exactly what he'd be doing if he successfully launched that nuke. The fate of the whole world hinged on his assumption there'd be no retaliation. He's a moron.
No one will really argue about Coldman being an.. unwise individual. It's the fact that he's batshit insane and yet given such high authority over the whole incident to the point of [sp]being the only person with the abort code which he spitefully takes with him to the grave just to fuck everyone over[/sp] that makes his presence exceptionally dumb. I mean, people have put insane individuals in charge before in Metal Gear, but Coldman takes the cake as someone who was probably placed to not supposed to inherently destroy everything in his path.
Well, all the talk about GZ made me do another run of the main mission.
I actually did that mission a lot of times and learned few things but I did mainly the route of Chico first then Paz.
First the obvious. There is a hidden prisoner in the west prison camp. If you decide to save him (which gives you nice amount of points) he will mark a drainage channel that can be helpful when going for Paz. If you decide to grab him after you rescued one of the targets you will need to hurry. The guards (3 I think) are about to execute him. If you move him out of the area of the prison camp or extract him it will have consequences (even without sounding alarms).
Normally when you grab Chico and carry him towards the landing zone there will be two approaching guards that can be easily netraulized or avoided. But if you removed the hidden prisoner from his spot instead of the 2 guards you will have to deal with 3 guards searching the shore (for the prisoner). I believe these 3 guards also appear if you get a combat alert before saving any of the targets.
One new thing I learned today actually happens in the Admin building area. There is a couple of guards that take time before they move to their final position (one of them is in the basement and has a short conversation before he moves out). If you cut off the power the guards get spooked and move to their final positions immediately. To be honest it's a small detail and these new positions aren't harder plus you might still get them if you wait too long.
The more important thing is after you rescue Paz you can overhear a conversation that tells you there are doctors coming to check up on her. These two soldiers are coming from the generators basement entrance and if you take them out and make sure no one finds them they will never sound the alarm and notice Paz is gone.

They say Coldman was out of favour at Langley too which makes me question how he got so much funding and support. Building the AI controlled stuff besides Peace Walker can't have been easy or cheap.

Makes me a bit nervous. Games nowadays need support after release, even SP ones. I hope that won't mean if TPP have issues on PC there won't be anyone to fix them.
Then there's MGO.

Yeah, it probably would. Just saying that his whole spiel about humans not being reliable isn't entirely false.
Russians.
oh fuck you're right I completely forgot the cutscene I saw like 30 minutes ago

He was literally reassigned to Central America because [sp]the CIA were disgusted with the revelation of his planning Operation Snake Eater to intentionally sabotage and get The Boss killed, complete with attempting to brag about it.[/sp] I guess he must have used the opportunity to manipulate things behind the scenes and hijack Huey's and Strangelove's projects for his own ends. Also aforementioned Russians.
Yeah, it probably would. Just saying that his whole spiel about humans not being reliable isn't entirely false.
You're right. It's just his idea of trusting it to an AI is even dumber. He even talks about that dude who averted nuclear war by refusing to fire at an american ship. He accidentally admitted that if his AI had been in that position there would have been nuclear war.
So another thing on that "Third Child" thing- In the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, The designation of Shinji (the main character) was 'Third Child', just like Mantis is. It could very much just be an anime reference, considering Kojima is a big fan of NGE (as it was a big influence for creating ZoE). Best case, it'll be both a reference and a hint at other children.
Man how shitty would it if your parents literally named you 'third child' like they couldn't even be bothered to come up with a name
