I actually made Dickbutt camo once.
It's clearly to facilitate their brand of weapon customization. The rear iron sights on a normal AKM rifle are forward of the receiver, but since the handguard is swappable between models they had to move it back to the dust cover. It also has a more western birdcage style flash hider by default so you can swap it for other muzzle devices.
The modularized weapon customization is the sole reason why the weapons are fictitious.

Doubt it. MGS4 had pretty extensive customization and used real weapons. There's got to be some more significance to it.
Another explanation would be that the game's equipment design is moving towards a "future seen from the '80s" style (something like Blade Runner and Akira?), hence the existence of fictional vehicles to top it off as well
Weapon brands are trademarked, no? Didn't Kojima pay a decent sum of money to use the brand names in MGS4?
Might just be avoiding that.

Yes, but MGS4 is set in an era where customization is possible using real-life equipment because it's set in the early 21st century. If TPP strictly used 1980s authentic guns in their original forms then customization would be an issue--unless they did something like Peace Walker's amusing gun alterations to represent higher-tier weapons

It really didn't. Go play MGS4 again. All you can do is attach things to rails. You can't swap handguards between completely different weapon systems.

For the last time, no. Was the MK17 called an FN SCAR-H? Was the G18C called a Glock 18C? Did you see any weapon company trademarks in the credits? You don't have to pay for these things if you don't name brand names or use the logos.
Eh, they're similar enough to real guns anyway that it's not that big a deal. And I don't see people complaining about how CS:S or Goldeneye used fake pastiche names for real guns (at least, not anymore :v: ). PC users will probably mod in more accurate names if the time comes, if not replace weapon models altogether for the gunporn enthusiasts.
The only real thing bugging me has been discussed before, and it's Ocelot's Single Action Army duo being traded in for fictional revolvers.
When you start up Arma II, you specifically see Trijicon mentioned in the splash screen for the use of its properties. You would see the same thing in most every game if the devs had to pay for the rights to portray weapons.
Looks like a lack of pre-rendered cutscenes combined with probable asset reusage and some clever optimization made MGSV smaller than expected. The PS4 version is about 25.1 GB, the PS3 version is 11.7 GB. At least if the JPN Playstation Store is to be believed.
Presumably that means the PC version is close to the PS4 file size.

I'm not complaining that they're fake. They're cool enough on their own. There's just a lot of misconceptions about their decision to use their own designs.
PC users won't have to mod in more "accurate" names when they're entirely fictitious to begin with. They already have their accurate names.

I guess that's a very good point too. It's a weird subject to think about after modern gaming and previous games in the series so liberally used real guns, so I guess I just haven't adjusted to the thought yet.

they really should have tweaked fox engine to be able to have hair covered in blood, since BB seems to be that half the time.
I don't know why he didn't just call it an "M-16" instead of an "armalite M-16." I thought that arms manufacturers didn't bother with patenting the likeness of a weapon
jimmy boy probably didn't want to pay royalties to arms manufacturers considering this one is even more anti-war than the last
btw peace walker had a lot of weapon names in it
You're completely missing my point. They use military (non-corporate) designations.
You don't have to pay anyone anything.

Look at his hair closer, he's got blood in it clearly
Look at his hair closer, he's got blood in it clearly
I think he means in-game. In trailers and game footage it's pretty clear the hair on his head is basically just a texture overlay unaffected by the 'blood layer' over himself. I guess theoretically they could circumvent that by making a blood layer for the hair too, but whatever.
I think the blood in those trailers when he's looking like a demon isn't really there - it's really just supposed to fuck with his face and make him look like a demon. If you covered the facial hair it would ruin that effect imo.
when he rubbed the ashes on his face he had ashes in his facial hair, which is why I have a feeling the blood effect is deliberate.
The blood doesn't look that great on Quiet
It looks like she fell chest first into some ketchup

I think it's because she's suddenly covered in it from the neck down.
Oh god, I watched the old 2003 trailer for MGS3 for the hell of it because I remembered something about a motorcycle. Besides that probably being EVA before she became who she was (or alternatively ADAM before he became [sp]Ocelot[/sp]), the irony of Grand Theft Auto jokes is really apparent now that MGS5 is literally open world complete with vehicles to take for your own. .. and, incidentally, a jungle setting in the form of Africa as well. And a potential motorcycle vehicle at that.
It also made me realize just how much changed from the trailer to the final product in just a year. Still has the Kojima sense of humor ("Tell me the release date," Snake interrogates a soldier for at knife point), but apparently it was actually intended to be semi-open world with its own day and night cycle. Not to mention much more aggressive and proficient enemy patrols and reinforcements that could go into prolonged firefights if necessary. If anything, MGS5 is literally the ultimate result of all those discarded ideas truly being utilized after over a decade.

brands are, designs aren't
you call a gun a glock 17, you gotta pay royalties. you call it a G17 and put a slightly altered logo on the model, you don't
most likely it is due to the gun customization, so that you can kitbash your own gun and have it have an appropriately fictional name or something
Damn, I found a 1:100 model of Metal Gear Rex that you jave to assemble yourself for a pretty nice price in Japan, only to find out it's unpainted. I suck at painting so I guess I'll have to pass on it.

Speaking of REX, I'd kill for this

Knowing MGS, it wouldn't be surprising if someone did actually.

I have that and the ray ordered. Wonder when they'll ship.
So after someone earlier said that the ps4 size for MGSV will be the size for pc, I got a bit worried- is the pc version of ground zeroes based on the lastgen version or the nextgen version? I don't want to get hyped before finding out my game runs like shit now because it went nextgen.

The PC version is more closely compared to current gen console versions. I'd expect TPP to be at least the size of the PS4 version if not larger.
