I never enjoyed pre-E3 announcements. I'd be so much more hyped if that Fallout trailer played during the conference. I'm sure there's much more to be shown but ehhh, it's a bit of a mood killer. We all knew it was coming but it still feels like a spoiler and dampens the 'full reveal'.
Just my opinion.

The thing is, we would have known Fallout 4 was a thing before the conference because there'd be giant posters everywhere for it. You need to decorate for E3 pretty early, and making a vague display would not be good for the whole week. It's better to announce now, then show off extensively at their conference.
Hopefully there will be a few surprises left for E3.
