It's fucking annoying how my entire team were shitting around on their own, while the enemy team were working together perfectly, and even if I followed another mech, they'd rush in and die almost immediately, leaving me to kill 2+ people, which I usually can with my flak, but then a third just shows up and kills me while I'm under like 10% health.
I do agree that there seems to be so much more that this game can be capable of... But we're also not done. Release is in december, so they have until then to make it more than what it is.
regardless, its a fast paced F2P mech game that certainly seems like it can effectively occupy a small frame of time.
Played a few more games last night, so conflicted on this game.
On the one hand, what is there works really well. Mech movement feels great, graphics and sounds are amazing, map design is surprisingly complex, the artstyle is a wholly unique blend of Japanese mecha and Western designs. The game parts are great.
On the other hand, camping is rewarded far too much and there is little to no depth beyond passive, boring power increases. The abilities range from legitimately interesting (infiltrator cloak) to outright boring (fire weapons for 10 seconds without generating heat). There is little need for actual teamwork; just sit in your spawn as a blob and wait for enemies to come to you. I won all my games like that last night.
Honestly I thought the "CoD with robots" shit was stupid before release but having played it, I'd go so far as to say that if it didn't have jets it would play exactly like CoD. Which isn't a problem, CoD is a decent game. It just needs more things setting it apart.
I think the altitude limit ruins the fun of the maps. Sometimes you see a good spot for sniping or putting down some heavy rocket fire and your jetpack just dies because apparently these things go no higher than twenty meters. There's not enough elevation in the combat.

I haven't taken to sniping that much (in sahara) despite lots of apparent vantage points, because the radar just detects your existence. If anything, I'd like a halo kinda radar that only detects movement or something
They could add a team support role in that one mech that focuses on scouting gets a great radar for his team while the others get basic ones. Would have to sacrifice something though.
I'd enjoy a slower, more methodical, hulking tank feeling game mode and/or serverside option
That's what Mechwarrior: Online is for. Location damage, slower mechs on a bigger battlefield and a variety of playstyles + loads of customization. From what I've seen so far Hawken probably competes more with Blacklight:Retribution than MW:O.
I'm about to start up hawken and get into my first match here, gotta see if it's the game for me.

Enter the code AlphaDog on the redeem code page on the hawken site and get into the alpha right now. Hurry the fuck up because this was posted a while ago and there are only 10K codes as of an hour ago.
If you have a hawken account try this again, I tried 3 hours ago, me and three friends and it worked for all of us.
I don't wanna be that guy but the game is still 70+ days away from launch and this is only Alpha 2. Since an NDA is still in place I would expected, at least once, some major changes or rebalance to happen.
i hope they increase the text font, it's smaller than 8 point font.
Also got into alpha, didn't play it yet though. Are there any European servers? I didn't see any. I was also unable to join any server when I tried playing, timing out every time for some reason, did anybody else have this problem?
I just want optimization.
It wouldn't replace a weapon obviously. It would replace either special abilities or one of the item categories, probably support.

Huh. Y'know, I think I'm going to check MW:O out, then. Sounds a lot more like my idea of mech combat. :v:
I was interested in MW:O until I saw that it's $120 to get the classic mechs.
It isn't.
$120 gets you 4 mechs with blue skins and exp boosts. + ingame currency + name in credits.
That's literally it.
The mechs are obtainable by other means in game except not with blue skin.

You can play the game and get those mechs, just the skins are unique.
top of the scoreboard in 3 games and in all 3 server died before it recorded the match zzz

Well I had "fun" I guess. I didn't get repeatedly tripped but I didn't get the satisfaction of out-maneuvering people and making them shit their pants because there's a tiny mech shooting their back either.
I'll have to try it again when it's more developed to see if anything much changes.
I really hope they optimise the shit out of this game.

I have to run it on all low to be able to play at a reasonable rate.

My first two rounds were terrible then I played with a friend and had a good time.
I really want to love this game but I don't think it's fully there. The gameplay really just boils down to holding MB1 and occasionally tapping MB2 and dodging. Heating, while I agree is a MUST for a mech game makes no sense in this as why the hell would you not shoot in combat? There's no risk:reward to letting your guns cool down really as not shooting just means that you're likely just going to get killed. You can't personally balance that either, all you can do is hit the target and hope he dies before your gun over heats. Running is hardly viable too.
I think this is really just a half-way concept with a very pretty art style. I can't say I'm going to play this anymore unless they make the game a bit more complex then just "shoot the dudes"
Does that alpha dog code still work?
whatever the 2nd gun on the middle mech seems to dominate too easy, camping is also way too beneficial and makes the game boring.
Unless any of the ones in the garage with different abilities change things up there's almost no point trying to have little skirmishes as those ranged rifle thingies seem to dominate.. even up close.
I actually had a lot of fun and that's a surprise seeing as how this is a more competitive then Mechwarrior Online.
Are you referring to the Slug Rifle? (Sniper rifle).
Yes, it's overpowered as FUCK. It can down you in a heartbeat from across the map and it can do the same at point-blank during a duel.
yeah that. its just extremely strong and easy to hit as there is no travel time from what I can tell.
If one approaches me at close range I just do /suicide because dueling with them is a waste of time. They usually win or will leave you with 20 health left.
you know you can heal yourself by holding c right
