Yes, I'm going to disarm myself and become a sitting duck with 20hp left.
If you don't heal you're fucked anyways.
Anyone get locked up at the main screen? It'll say "Loading profile" or something along those lines, but for, like, 5 minutes, and ctrl+alt+del does NOTHING until it snaps out of it.
i don't know what you guys talking about using c being suicide is about
i've not once died ever trying to repair myself. repairing from super lower health to max health takes only what, ten seconds
i guarantee if nobody is in radar range then they won't be in radar range in ten seconds, and even if they are they're probably not going to hunt you down
this is coming from the guy who breaks mid-firefight to repair himself. nobody is going to chase you down to blow you up if you are low health either because you'll probably guide them right back to allies.
that is how people get 20-0 on the score tables. repairing is great
also i've fought against people numerous times that have just randomly stumbled upon me while i was repairing, usually at around 60-70% health. most of these encounters resulted in me winning because of better dodging and aim.
do you go radar-silent when you're repairing too? I never noticed but I've had people walk right past me if I'm tucked well into a little nook
afaik you only pop up on the radar if you're shooting or moving while in a certain range.
[editline]30th September 2012[/editline]
but who knows, maybe they just have tunnel vision and don't pay attention to the radar.
yeah, static targets blank out on the radar. it's great when you know there's someone around the corner.
although i play as assault and nothing is more terrifying than seeing a little tiny mech vault right over the corner and smash you at point blank with a TOW and flak gun. your survival rate drops to about 10% instantly
[editline]30th September 2012[/editline]
i don't get why people play as the medium/sniper mech. i really don't. i guess the guns are cool but to me the tow/AR combo is absolutely unbeatable. the AR has fantastic accuracy, can drop a lot of rounds down range, has enough cooldown prevention with the special ability so you can drop two targets and never over heat AND your tow rockets are absolutely devastating. assault class is the way to go. i know i've said it before but i'll say it again
I think today I'm going to pair up with the SMG and see how that works on targets, although i'm in absolute love with the AR. i've only been dropped by a sniper mech a few times and that's only because they've picked me off as i'm fleeing. in a frontal assault they're cannon fodder and don't have enough mobility to get away
tow can take 2/3 of a light, 1/2 of a medium, and 1/4 of a heavy mech.
also use both the grenade and shield items, grenades deals about half the damage of a tow and the shield allows you to kite the enemy when your weapons are cooling down.
Assault is in general the best of the three standard configs. Assault rifle is great general purpose, TOW is an amazing secondary, probably the best overall, the two HE charges you get are nice. Not to mention the huge speed/manuverability advantage you get.
Sharpshooter is pretty decent as well though. Activating its damage boost and shooting both the slug and sabot rifles does immense damage, and the Hawkins is a decent gun that slightly outranges the assault rifle.
I haven't been able to do much with Rocketeer to be honest. Hellfire is really fun to use and it has decent health but its transform mode doesn't seem good enough for the massive loss in mobility and it's two primaries are incredibly awkward to use in a fast fight.
Signed up, not sure it's worth being in the Alpha since I'm in New Zealand. But at least I secured the username I wanted. 90% of Armored Core related usernames are gone, which isn't too surprising.
I like how detailed this game looks on max settings
don't listen to the golden, he doesn't even use the heal function properly and believed hawken was going to be as complex as mechwarrior when even from the start it never was.
In its current state - no.
It is free2play though, so just check it out in December. It may have changed, it may not have. Right now it's extremely shallow and lacks depth of any sort.
I disagree to an extent. If you go to play the game with high expectations, you'll be sorely disappointed
I just started playing it for the technical aspects of it and from an entertainment standpoint it's fantastic. It's got the perfect blend of high-octane action, gritty aesthetic that confuses and nauseates the hell out of you and makes you claustrophobic as hell, and on top of that if you don't use your brain you'll end up dead pretty quick
This game could really blossom in to something great, but I have a feeling it's going to become a pay2win title at the end of the rope once it gets released and the devs settle in and start developing OP-as-hell guns.
we'll see.
Bruiser is easily my favourite mech. To me it feels like a bulkier version of the Assault mech, and that Vulcan/Hellfire combo causes some serious damage on medium range.
Thank you for putting words in my mouth and twisting what I said.
You don't have to agree with me, but you don't have to be a dick either.
i'm not twisting your words at all.
And that really is about it. What other tactical options do you have besides looking at the enemy and holding down mouse click?
There is no management of mech sub-systems, no locational damage or the ability to damage limbs or sub-systems, and there is no way to manage heat besides walking behind a wall and standing there for a few seconds.
I've only been playing it for a day and I'm already bored of it. It's just so shallow. It's a fantastic idea, but they've just made a FPS with a fancy mech facade. They could have done so much more with the mech idea.
you're talking about this game but with area damage and sub system management - that's literally MWO
seriously not every game needs some kind of complex crap, hawken is a competent shooter
the fact that people are in mechs is not a facade, it has direct and obvious impacts on gameplay like the claustrophobic cockpit, weapon loadouts, and non-regenerating health
it simply seems like this isn't the game you want to play and therefore you call it bad, which is a bit of a dick move considering how you presented your opinion (which isn't reflected by anyone else in the thread) as fact, turning that dude away from a perfectly playable and quite fun game

Am I the only one who thinks Hawken is exactly like Phantom Crash? Everything from the style to the mech sliding gameplay looks and feels the same... only a tad slower.

phantom crash was the BEST xbox game, hawken is pretty similar
Jesus christ I didn't think I'd ever see the name Phantom Crash again. That game was SO ADDICTIVE.
If anyone is looking for a code, I just redeemed AlphaDog from a 4chan post.
Worth a try.
phantom crash was the BEST xbox game, hawken is pretty similar
I've brought it up several times in this thread
also to the earlier conversation, even with complaints it's worth it to download and play at this stage, so long as you speak up on the beta board or at least fill out those surveys. Complaining while it's still in development means those issues will ideally get ironed out and the game will be more enjoyable at release.
We're not being allowed in just so we can play a finished product early
I haven't found a game that I could play without the game losing connection.
Anybody else getting this problem?
It's a fantastic idea, but they've just made a FPS with a fancy mech facade.
This is exactly what they advertised from the start
I don't have any alpha codes to give out, but first person to rate me dumb gets my account and password
-Snip-
Just got access today and I'm quite surprised at how it plays, despite being in alpha.
I expected much worse but there are definite signs of polish. I can't wait to see it fully optimized.
Does jumping on enemy mechs do damage? Tried it out, but there was no visible effect.
no
To celebrate an awesome Alpha and even awesomer users we’ve got a few
surprises in store for everyone for the final day of the Alpha (yes... I said "awesomer"!).
Starting at noon (12pm) PST on Friday, October 5th and going until the
servers close at 11:59pm PST, you'll want to keep your eyes peeled
in game for developers! Look for callsigns that follow this naming
convention:
[ADH](Callsign)
and
[MTR](Callsign)
If you see those callsigns in-game, you'll know you're fighting a dev
(or hopefully have one on your team)! And good luck to those of you who
run across us! Now, in order to pull this off, we've had to disable
the ability to change callsigns. We don't want users abusing this
naming convention and changing their callsign to spoof devs. We'll
turn this functionality back on at a future date.
Now onto the presents!
Every single account that logs into a match during these "dev hunting"
hours will receive a special alpha-participation-only award at Open Beta
on 12.12.12. Note you have to actually log INTO a game to be eligible
for this award. Simply logging into the garage won't cut it. The ONLY
way to receive this award will be to participate in this 12 hour event.
The top 10 "dev hunters" will receive a special recognition in
the blog at playhawken.com. Not only will we mention your call sign,
but we'll also be sure to put your kill totals up as well.
We'll see you in-game on Friday!
The HAWKEN Team
Let the games begin.
[editline]5th October 2012[/editline]
Of course, dev hunting is going to be kind of hard when the game stutters like a bloody slideshow, but oh well.
