So I have been playing for a bit and it was quite an experience. For starts I had to use a US server as the stupidly small amount of EU servers are rammed meaning interacting with items is slow and buggy. I was constantly running into groups of people and everyone was really friendly and was talking with microphones. I think them defaulting it to middle mouse button to talk helps in getting people to speak. The sitting animation looks kinda funny. [t]http://puu.sh/eAWGV/735286ed26.jpg[/t] All items in the world seem to stay as showing in the world when you pick them up. I got this machete and a bottle of water but they still showed in the game but could not be interacted with. [t]http://puu.sh/eAWgb/c468e60687.jpg[/t] I came across all manner of things from floating zombies and sinking zombies to flying bears (that ultimately killed me) putting me into hysterics for about a solid 3 minutes. I did find this thought I assume this is a crate you can spawn in. It was empty. [t]http://puu.sh/eAYuH/f426046c6e.jpg[/t] I actually took loads of pictures but for whatever reason most of them just showed a black screen. Some of the images consisted of stuff like military caches dropped from aircraft and stuff like flying bears and zombies. I think I will wait until they fix some stuff before I play again shits crazy.
This game even for an alpha, is rubbish. Even if everything worked correctly it would still be generic and boring. Even Unturned at it's current state is far better. Every single thing about this game, current or planned, doesn't match up to 7DaystoDie except for it's graphics. The crafting, base building, loot system, and interface are all amazing in 7 Days. The base building alone makes the reply value of that game huge. I know that game came out awhile ago and it really sucked when it did, but I can't see this game coming close to what that offers, especially since they are updating it a lot. This game is currently just a big glitchy open world deathmatch in which you slowly starve to death The only reason I don't regret buying it is the 2 hours of hilarious things that happened due to how bad the game was and laughing about it with other players in the world
H1Z1 is a clean slate. In the coming months/years, it has the potential to either become another 7DTD or even something of its own, or fall to the same fate as DayZ.

They are most likely supposed to contain rare/ more useful loot that are scattered in hard to get to locations. Mine was also empty. Given that one of the big complaints is that people can't find any loot at all, I'm thinking that this is a bug. Even basic necessities are really rare and don't seem to resupply in a timely manner.
tried joining 5 servers and my game crashes every time i get to first in queue :l
I'm getting a lot of mixed feedback from this forum so it seems to me like it's probably best just waiting for now.
I'm getting a lot of mixed feedback from this forum so it seems to me like it's probably best just waiting for now.
Yeah, honestly, hold off for now. It has potential, but right now it's probably best not to buy in just yet.
Went to bed last night because I felt like it was going to take awhile for them to fix it. Woke up, first thing I encountered was two people with bows trying to shoot me, after I dodged several of their arrows one of them yelled "HE'S A NINJA". Punched both of them out. 3 guys in a cop car came up to me after I found an axe, took two out and the driver drove away. Built a shack by a well, built a camp fire (you can place a flare where the flare is poking out of the campfire to set it on fire), so I had unlimited water, and there are several dear around + I have animal traps to for food. I'm all set on food/water, just need a backpack and a gun + ammo, and I'll be good to go on that server. On another server my friend was on some guy had a backpack and was attacking some guy, so I helped the guy out, knew the guy was going to try and attack me after I saved him and fake looted the guy. He ran at me and I knocked him out as well. The backpack guy had an AR15 on him, no ammo though, and a bunch of other stuff. Now I just have to wait till all my friends get on and we can start a little group going. I think SoE overestimated how hard their game would be. Anyone have a list of discover recipes? Purified water + blackberry = blackberry juice Wood plank + wood stick = Shed (do it again for Shed Door)
the soundscape in this game is amazing, along with the sense of place too bad all of the servers are pretty much lagtopia atm
Hotfix/patches coming in now http://www.reddit.com/r/h1z1/comments/2sn8k6/status_update_1162015_910am_pst/ [editline]16th January 2015[/editline] Also if you really have a problem with airdrops. It's day 1, no one should be getting so worked up over something as little as this. They never had the data to go with mass numbers of players like this, so everything is going to be altered like they have previously stated.
Can't even get through the launcher. Hope some of these fixes will solve that.
Played on a US server for a while because there's like 5 EU ones and they all have 4 hour queues. From what I've played it was pretty fun, managed to get a pistol pretty early on without any ammo, used it to scare away another player with a knife. Found a bunch of canned food and an axe while scavenging, seems like the only worthwhile places to check in houses are the kitchen for food, the bathroom for medicine and any tables or other surfaces for visible items. Seems like dehydration happens way too fast though.
These fucking queues. They always crash me, and now they seem to be on every server. I literally crash everytime i'm in a queue for awhile.
To the video going around where he says "you can only find guns in the world" Guess if you look at wording he does say crates and they refer to the crates you can unlock as crates. As they refer to air drops as air drops.
But tbh, Air drops in a fucking apocalypse game is retarded?

[editline]16th January 2015[/editline]
But tbh, Air drops in a fucking apocalypse game is retarded?
Yeah, it does make very little sense. However, in World War Z airdrops were eventually set up to help isolated communities survive. Doesn't really make sense in the context of H1Z1 where any random person can call it in. It works well in Rust though, at least the lore explanation is cool. I haven't found weapons anywhere but in a major city. I found a damaged 1911 with no ammo in a cubicle cabinet, and a random .308 hunting rifle with no ammo lying on the roof of an apartment building. Was trying to get a fireaxe off the wall of a fire station when a bunch of players started showing up. Fucking server desynched so the fireaxe randomly dissapeared and I had to just grab my old axe and run. Explored for about another 30-40 minutes before two brazillians with hatchets started chasing me. Killed one, the other one bled out right after I died.

He didn't talk about airdrops on purpose so more people would buy it.
Might aswell add "Call in Gunship" while they are at it.
What a crock of shit, he never said you could get them from airdrops when on the topic though did he? They have been clear about that from the beginning so I fail to understand the purpose of 'tricking' the people into buying into EA when they would aleady know they were buying into the early development of a F2P game and should also expect some sort of monetization? SOE had brought up the idea of air drops fucking AGES ago, they had never been particularly clear about the contents, but they were clear that it was never meant to be a direct, uncontested power injection for the people who called it in. People who bought into EARLY ACCESS did so because they thought the game would be fun and were interested in helping the development given SOE's stated desire to include the community. NOT because of some notion that You are assuming some Sergey Titov level of scheming on the part of SOE. Yeah, let's tell everyone the game is F2P with no P2W monetization and then pull the rug out from under them the moment they sign up. Brilliant strategy right there. It clearly worked fantastically for ISS. Or what we can see it for what it is: A poorly fleshed out mechanic tied to monetization that had not been properly tested or implemented yet. Yeah, It couldn't possibly be that simple SOE is well known for their stellar implementation of monetization mechanics and has never made mistakes in the past. Clearly, this was an attempt by arrogant SOE to pull the wool over the eyes of intelligent, reasonable gamers everywhere.
cloth+ sticks = makeshift bow sticks by themselves = arrows makeshift bow +wood plank = bow drill branch+cloth +animal fat = torch
swizzle(spelling? my friend said it on TS and i didn't understand him): packet of sugar, all in one cold medicince, purified water. This makes you run faster
Mixed feelings here too. But i can clearly see some good potential, thanks to a proper engine where you can actually do shit on it, without having to rely on dirty hacks that takes four months flat. I really like the buildings, they feel like proper buildings with proper interiors. I also really like the soundstage of the game, the music flows nicely and the ambient sounds are great. The things i dislike are mostly related to the fresh state of the game. Don't buy it now, except if you want to support. We'll see. All in all playing H1Z1 right now is pointless. In a month or two maybe.

Yes the game WILL be free 2 play, but right now it isn't and it's obvious if they had said that you can get guns and ammo from the paid airdrops less people would have brought it because they'd be thinking the game would be all pay 2 win. I fucking like the game, it's enjoyable and does a hell of a lot better than dayz, but saying that this airdrop stuff is a non-issue is dumb. They didn't mention it, say anything about it, and clearly didn't because they knew there would be a backlash.

So i like the game but [t]http://cloud-2.steamusercontent.com/ugc/28479596489388066/912B5815C941EE9A581C028A161228778DFF21D9/[/t] um [t]http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/28479596489385142/5DFB01EE9E03E31164DD6FA5454913C90C470C12/1024x575.resizedimage[/t] [t]http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/28479596489384885/0D868E7506E39B6F576F97106C80BF9739DA1F1F/[/t] yeah.
All the servers on the server listing are greyed out and I cannot join any of them. Is this the case for everybody else?
All the servers on the server listing are greyed out and I cannot join any of them. Is this the case for everybody else?
Must be doing some server work. They've been up and down.

Spending too much time on reddit and seeing shit get all blown out of proportion raises my blood pressure too much. So here goes; Airdrops were spoken about a long time ago, sometime before this past summer. Smedley was spitballing the idea and this kicked up a lot of dust, naturally. In the resulting shit storm, smed and some other dev mentioned that the point of these airdrops wasn't meant to dramatically favor the purchaser. It was meant to give a player the opportunity to make something happen on a server with a couple hundred other people first and foremost. To me, the idea of having player driven, spontaneous events sound like a neat way to monetize the game, obviously balanced with a huge amount of risk. Here's what I think happened; SOE either kept talking about this mechanic internally or made little to no mention to the community over the summer and fall. The whole "not properly communicating with the community" issue is also derived from that. SOE simply neglected to keep the community informed about a pressing issue like they neglected to establish a proper line of communication with them for months on end. I think this to an extent, mirrors the communication internally at SOE. I sincerely doubt that the whole dev really knew they were putting in the airdrops until they implemented them since the drop tables are totally outrageous and out of whack with that they have repeatedly said in the past. I really don't see how the airdrop stuff is an issue. All SOE needs to do is remove, or greatly rarify firearms in drops, reduce the amount of ammo they come with and play with the drop radius and other factors to achieve balance. That pretty concisely fixes the issues with air drops. Also, can someone in a non prick-like way explain to me how this airdrop mechanic is Pay 2 Win? The way I see it is this: You put the flare/beacon down, which in and of itself is highly visible and eventually a big loud plane flies by and drops a crate within a 200-250m radius of the beacon. Players see/hear the plane and know what that means. They see the beacon and take up positions to mob the crate when it lands. Not to mention the crate itself takes 10 whole seconds to even open. What is Pay 2 Win about that? What sort of advantage do you get by drawing that much attention to yourself in a game all about survival? Even if you do manage to get there first, there is a very big chance you won't make it out of the drop alive. Even if you skulk around and then pick up the scraps, are any rewards you get from the event still considered part of a Pay 2 Win mechanic, or did you earn those resources. Please don't say "YEAH well right now it drops 5 feet from you do it is P2W" when clearlythe system is broken as fuck and isn't working as intended. That's being intellectually dishonest. [editline]16th January 2015[/editline]
How is this enjoyable? Not being a dick but there's very little to have fun with in it's current state compared to other games
I would suggest trying it after they get their loot spawns sorted out. Crafting is literally cut in half because people can't get metal they need from cars. [editline]16th January 2015[/editline]
So i like the game but *horrible* yeah.
You should see how much a mess they made of Pleasant Valley or whatever it's called. They did a really shitty job of merging a parking garage with some apartment buildings.
I'm late to the party. Noticed some YouTubers have done videos on this game, and none of the reviews have been particularly good. Is this game actually good, or another War-Z tier joke?
Takes a special kind of retard to do a review of a early-access title on day one.

Is this game actually good, or another War-Z tier joke?
Most people are complaining because air drops drop guns, and you can buy them so they think it's P2W. But you're buying a server event. They bumped it up to there has to be 100 people on a server for an air drop to work. I'm enjoying the game and I haven't even gotten to group up with friends yet. Once you start learning recipes and they fix a few bugs it's going to be pretty darn fun.
After watching some streams and seeing how laggy and buggy the game is atm, I think Im gonna wait a little before purchasing.
