Alright, it seems some new Communication Trenches have been dug.
As I've been suggesting for some time now, Cyril finally made a twitter account where he can easily post small updates on progress and things. https://twitter.com/GALLICAGAMES
As well, I'll summarize what's been done on it since it was created today. First the muzzle flash fix on the Ruby was done, as well as the animations tweaked a bit (there is a link to a flv video of it).
Something about the environment destruction, I think that the particle effects and such are done for it, but could possibly change. To compliment that, this picture was posted.

And the last thing he said was that he is starting to prep for the 2nd "Features" video.
All in all, the past couple of days have been news filled. I'm pretty damn excited!
Thanks for constantly updating this thread! I'm really excited to see this new video. I really we actually see a video of shooting people since this game lives and dies on the shooting.
the fire looks pretty good

Yeah no problem :D. And I am as well, however I think this next video is going to be showing off some of the terrain destruction and such as evidenced by it being mentioned on Twitter. I guess we'll have to wait and see :D.

Yeah it does, should compliment the environment destruction well.
Alright, new video posted today!

Really making me crave some gameplay videos. Though, according to some of Cyril's tweets he's working on a video to show the characters of the game off. I asked about a gameplay video anyway, as I think it would be nice to have a new one.
I had also asked about Ballistics systems in the game a couple weeks ago, and I received this response: "Two systems: the standard system fps, viewfinder and rand's back. A system with the coriolis effect."
As well we've had these two pictures.

A system with the coriolis effect? They mean with gravity drop and all that?
A system with the coriolis effect? They mean with gravity drop and all that?
I think so, he is French and I'm using Google Translate for all the translations
Looking at Wikipedia though, there is this section. "Because of the rotation of the earth, a bullet does not fly straight from the barrel to a target. The Coriolis effect minutely changes the trajectory of a bullet, curving the path of the projectile. This effect only affects accuracy at extremely long distances and is therefore accounted for by accurate long-distance shooters, such as snipers or contestants in long-distance shooting competitions"

Ah. It probably won't come into factor much, the two main things are gravity and wind.
It's been a while since I updated this thread with any sort of news. No release date has been announced yet, however I do really believe a release is getting close. Since the last video, there have been many new screenshots posted, displaying the destruction effects and weather, the UI, animations, and such.
I won't post all the weather ones, but here are the rest of the new screenshots.

that third picture was posted on Twitter with the message of "Redesigning the Animations". Before posting those UI screenshots, he had said "Redesigning the UI". So there's progress being made. I'm hopeful for a release by the end of this year, especially with all these media updates.

oh, and on the French forums he had expressed interest in doing a 3rd video.
I wish I had the money to buy this...
You wouldn't be able to at the moment anyway. After Cyril delayed it last year, he decided to take ordering down, as he wouldn't want even more people purchasing it, then going "where do you download the game???" and other such things like saying it's a scam.
A smart move imo.
That's an awfully ugly GUI. Texture work is pretty shoddy too...
Well considering Cyril is doing all the work on his own, honestly, it isn't that bad. It's not going to look like Battlefield 4 or anything, but I don't mind that. I'd rather he get the game in a working state first, then work on tidying up the UI and such. For me, in a title like this, I'd rather have good gameplay over graphics.
Ive been following this for so long it seems weird that it might acctually be released! Im excited!

2010'er here!
Say, does Facepunch have a thread for Verdun? I remember that was dead for a while, and then they suddenly came out with a release version. Fun times!
It did at one point, but has since died down unfortunately.
Wow, another two pictures today. One showing off improved faces (remember the cat eyes from before?)

If Im being honest here, the game in terms of graphics and art design.
what

The game in terms of graphics and art design what?
I think he's trying to say that the game's graphics scream "Welcome to 2004!"

You hit the nail right on the hammer there.
I think he's trying to say that the game's graphics scream "Welcome to 2004!"
You still got to give Cyril some credit, he's doing all of it on his own. And once it's out in the Alpha/Beta stage, I would assume refinements in that will come especially due to player feedback.
I was gonna say, it looks completely and totally awful. You wanna see a one man job done right? Look at Dust: An Elysium Tale. Sure it was a little too furry, but it still had good mechanics and art direction.
I wouldn't really say they're comparable, as the goals and style of the games are different. I can agree that yes, the graphics are rough, but honestly if it plays well, I won't care.

Yes, because everyone who develops games has the same level of skills in art/programming/design etc.
Not every game has to be mind blowingly good in the graphics department.
And its still amazingly impressive for a solo job.
Sure, the graphics aren't amazing or anything by today's standards but for a guy doing this all on his own they certainly aren't terrible. Compare it to more professional games from the early 2000's that had larger teams working on it. I mean for what they are, they aren't a total ugly mess.
I can tolerate it as easily as I can tolerate older titles that I still replay to this day. Plus it's kind of nostalgic for me; the older Brothers in Arms, Medal of Honor, Red Orchestra and many other WWII games are some of my favorite games that I used to play constantly.
Call me crazy but there's just something about the way older graphics look that I like. It's not shiny, bright, or flashy I guess.
But whatever, everyone has their opinion. As long as the game doesn't look like Dwarf Fortress, I can handle it.
I hate to keep rambling on about this, but this is legitimately my dream game. WWI, FPS/RPG, Singleplayer. Like seriously I'm such a damn fangirl.
So I looked back at some of the development history, and damn, they've been at this since 2001. It's gone from a game known as "Prophecy Resurection" which covered WWI (which was to be the intro level), the Gulf War, and more. Cyril initally attempted to develop his own engine for it, based off of the OpenGL API.
After years of work on that, he found Torque3D. After a while, he setteled upon doing only WWI. Thus taking the intro level for Prophecy Resurection, and creating a full game out of it. These devblogs are interesting in seeing how the game has evolved since then.
Here's the first one if you're interested. http://www.garagegames.com/community/blogs/view/19481
I honestly don't care about the graphics. If the feel is there, and the gameplay isn't so buggy it completely takes you out of the experience, I'm probably going to like it a lot.
I mean I still play WW2 shooters from 2004/2005 and enjoy them a lot.
it looks like an unreal 2004 version of that one source WW1 game. the trenches source or whatever?
that mod was abysmal. I LOVED IT
