It's been a long time since I said that news update would be posted, and it has not yet been. Pretty disappointed in that. However, I do bring some news. Cyril is currently updating the websites for the game, with what specifically only time will tell (he confirmed he is updating them via twitter). He's setting up, and testing, the download system for the game. The French Website and forum is currently accessible, the English one is not. Secondly, he did post lots of screenshots on Facebook for November 11th. Here are a couple of my favorites.
Everything is so shiny [editline]12th November 2014[/editline] In the last picture
Yeah. I wonder if that's because that stuff is wet from rain?
The chauchat is gonna be in the game? Better hope this guy isn't totally anal about gun realism. Otherwise that thing is gonna jam alot. [editline]12th November 2014[/editline] Also, bdd458. I gotta give you some credit for that avatar. Sabaton is awesome. (And I'm gonna see them live again in 2 weeks )
ok, this isn't completely related to the game, but pertains to it. It's an essay titled "Representing the First World War in video games : between absence and alternate history". It's by Julien Lalu who is a PhD student at the University of Poitiers. It was posted on the Centenary Partnership Program's, whose mission statement says
First World War Centenary Partnership Program is a public interest group established in 2012 by the Government for the preparation and implementation of the commemorative program for the First World War centenary.
I'm assuming by government, they mean the French government. Anyway, it looks at reasons why it's underrepresented in games, and I think the most interesting reason he gave is that it's hard to find a real sort of 'enemy' for it, especially for something like an FPS. He states in WWI that's difficult since it really was just a bunch of people fighting for their country. There were no Nazis, no demons. This chart he included was interesting as well. He lists 4 major periods: Ancient, Medieval, Modern, and Contemporary (End of the Napoleonic Wars-Now). Out of the 835 video games about contemporary conflicts, 506 are about WWII. 506. His data for this was taken from this site. The reason I bring this up is for two reasons. A) pure (not alternate history) WWI Games that aren't Grand Strategy are hard to come by, so this game is certainly a rarity. B) It mentions The Trench: 1916, and uses a screenshot from it for it's cover image. Cyril (The dev for The Trench), posted it to the game's Facebook timeline.
