the general chat thread would be good, the OP has a ton of stuff for new players

this game and, to a far greater extent its playerbase, does not take kindly to newcomers so it'd be ideal to start off with playing against bots so you don't get yelled at just for being new
also this game takes a while to get the hang of but it's fun as hell and ultimately worth the time invested

I strongly suggest you play Lich first, level Frost Nova and Sacrifice first and you have basically infinite mana to cast spells.
Play some bot games to get in touch with the way the game works. If you're entirely new to the game (haven't played LoL, HoN, any similar mods in SC2 or WC3) play more than a few.
Expect to do bad on your earliest games, expect to get yelled for doing so.
Don't pick Meepo, Chen, Visage or Enchantress at first. They require microing multiple units which might be difficult if you're not used to playing real time strategy games or similar.
In my opinion Invoker isn't one of the heroes you should stay the fuck away from, if you have fast fingers and a good memory, he is a strong hero and not all that hard to pick up really.
Rubick might be an interesting hero to pick up, as you learn many other heroes as well while playing as him. This may however, be very difficult hero to learn. Depends on how fast you pick things up. If you're really quick at learning how each spell works (for the most part at least) he is among the best heroes to play. Certainly the most fun.
When you play with real people, don't act like an ass, please.
Don't pick Sniper. He isn't as easy as he looks.
Follow your recommended items list. If you're confident enough to stray away from it, look for items that grant similar stats.
If you buy multiple boots you are an idiot.
Don't buy MoM/Diffusal/Desolator/HotD(or Satanic) together, their effects won't stack.

this is almost perfect but it's missing visage in the "stay away" list and hotd->satanic in the "don't buy this with the others" list

Play Centaur and Venomancer.
They're easy and very few people lock them in so you're likely to get a hold of them. They can also do a whole bunch of different stuff so you can play around with them and see what you like doing.

On the topic of void/medusa vs pl, I've found that while yes, they beat him when fully farmed, he can rax much faster than they can.
No shit, he's a pusher, that's his role. That's like saying 'well sure, Lifestealer out carries Nature's Prophet, but Prophet can rax much faster!'
[editline]3rd May 2013[/editline]
I just realized, PL reminds me a shitload of a lot of Final Fantasy.

Because it's him, or atleast a reference. His WC3 skin is similar, and Phantom lance is the ultimate weapon for him in FFX.

It's like everything you can possibly do wrong on a lvl 1 rosh attempt in 1 video.
and then there's that Leshrac, good god.

is that a mutant weaver biting spectre head off?
Weaver's underbelly is reddish.

Developed the HUD some more. I'll be doing work on the "evidence chamber" (bottom left), which is the button you click to break an argument. The screen does look a bit empty in the top half, but that's because I don't have a background to work with yet. This test screen was taken in-game, by the way. The portraits on the right change and sometimes make movements such as shaking depending on the character / what they're doing, so it won't just be constant static text. For now, I'm just importing the character assets into the game.

His model started out looking like Sten from Dragon Age: Origins and now inexplicably looks like Revolver Ocelot instead. (mostly talking about his face.)
How did I even misread PL as Ancient Titan, lol.
I meant Ancient Titan looks like Revolver Ocelot.

EDIT: Though PL also sort of resembles said character, now that I look at them together.
Is his brother called solid lancer
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Lancer
Meta has changed.
It's not about pushing, or ganks.
It's not even about roamers, rune control, or split pushing.
It's an endless series of teamfight battles,
fought by radiants and dires.
