Hopefully this will explain why if I draw Luna even slightly different she 'doesn't look like Luna'.
I went with SD style this time.
First of all, Luna is recognized by her iconic outfit, mostly by her helmet.
As you all can see in 2a, without her helmet but with outfit it's suddenly not so recognizable. That because she doesn't have any other special features like QoP's horns for example.
And if you draw Luna in completely different set of clothes as in 3a, well, you understand. There's also an issue of her make-up. Remove all that and even if you drew her in realistic style, with face just as in the official art and game someone will surely start to whine about "She doesn't look like Luna". That's annoying.
Another point is facial expression. Luna is a stoic character and even slightly emotional expressions can make it harder for recognizing, just look at examples.
AND WHY THE HELL YOU CONFUSE HER HAIR WITH PLUME?
Plume is not a hair, it's helmet's decoration.
HER EYEBROWS ARE BLACK - ERGO, HER HAIR IS ALSO BLACK.
