I believe he has a Meet Ally line that says something like "Don't listen to the critics, Siren, I love your voice!". So that can cause some amusing thoughts of Slark having internal monologues like a teenage girl meeting her pop star idol. Being shorter than Siren and Slardar also helps contribute to that image, as does "tragic" bit of the backstory where he's described as being all alone and "without kin or kindness" for half his life, which can make him a Woobie from an angle.
There's also the contrast of him being a (skilled) lowlife and her an ex-military commander (if I recall correctly) makes for easy Aladdin-style love story setups.
The sensible person of course would point out that there's no actual hints at romance and that Slark's gotta be fucked up to be put in Not-Alcatraz in the first place and then spend half his life either isolated or among similar scum.
But to the shipper that just makes the possibility of a softer side all that more adorable. Like he always thinks himself a badass that don't need no friends buuut there's this oooone giiirl etc.
And to be fair, I think it makes the two characters a bit more interesting. Even if it's mostly nonsense and reportedly difficult to find different kinds of Slark fanart.
