Even if it makes it harder for enemies to determine what spell's being cast, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing; it can be used to play mind games with your opponent whilst looking super-flash. However, the colour change means they can potentially know that it isn't their friend's spell due to the Rubick Emerald colour of the stolen spell.
Also, here's a thought for an upgrade to Rubick Aghs; in addition to Spell Steal having the Aghanim's upgrade on any stolen Ult, Rubick can also borrow spells from his allies and possibly Neutral creeps, which vastly increases the potential pool of spells that Rubick can use on the battlefield, as well as the value of buying Scepter as Rubick. Usefulness of the "Spell Borrow" upgrade may vary depending on the abilities that your allies possess.

As fun as it sounds, it would be overpowered. This would mean you could potentially have 4x of a spell, if say Enigma/Magnus and Rubick both have refresher orbs.
I think the most fun upgrade without making it broken would be either making him be able to have 2 spells stolen simultaneously, but since this would mean you'd need more keys the simplest way is to reduce the cooldown.
Also on the subject of green spells for Rubick: I think it could be done if it only affected spells where it wouldn't make it too confusing, such as Chronosphere, Black Hole, Rain of Chaos, Mana Burn, Ice Shard etc. Spells with easily recognizable visual styles even if the hue was altered.

This looks sexy and i think Valve should implement this, unless they want to follow original Dota or keep the brainfuck confusion elements of Rubick gameplay
They could implement this in such a way that only we and our allies see speels in green. Or both sides see them in green but then there could also another Septer upgrate which makes our spells indistinguishable for our enemies.

one of spell steal's main caveats is that you dont get to choose which spell you grab, you just have to be quick about grabbing it and your enemy has to be quick about using something else right after
allowing you to steal from teammates completely removes the skill element. that alone is seriously overpowered, not even mentioning the kinds of combos you could pull off with it
if he gets any additional aghanim's upgrade, it'll probably be a cooldown/mana reduction or duration increase
