My main 'complaint' about 360 degree video is that it's just a video projected on the inside of a sphere. There's no depth perception.
I'd prefer it being filmed with a stereoscopic camera and displayed in Rift without head tracking.
To add to what people said earlier, I think something like ARI from heavy rain would be amazing with the rift.

But that's just uncomfortable in some cases. Next best thing is sitting in a virtual cinema.
The most interesting, but hardest solution would be not to record video, but to record a 3D environment. Something like laser scanning or 3D reconstruction from video.

they have this camera ball thing that you toss in the air and its cameras capture at the same time, and afterwards it can be stitched int a single image. the image is fully spherical (i don't know the term, but not just 360 degrees horizontally, vertically too)

Yeah but that has the same problem as the 360 degree video: in the end you have a single spherical image from a single point in space. But the thing you want is two different spherical images from two different points in space where your eyes are supposed to be. The fact that you can rotate your head means these two points can rotate around each other. A static video or image can't adjust for that.
in the end you have a single spherical image from a single point in space
Have you actually tried any of these 2D 360 videos on the rift? From what I heard it's nothing like "inside a sphere with 2d image on it", even without 3D there is a lot of depth cues.
Speaking of virtual cinemas, I wonder if there will be a way to support all older games on the Rift through some sort of virtual theater.

The ability to lean left and right, forward and back now is so cool. Although I wish the FOV was just a little bit better as I could still see the edge of the screen. Hopefully CV1 will address this. Other than that though, freakin awesome!
They decapitated the poor Ninja Turtle guy.

Don't forget that the demo DK2s are adjusted out for glasses users, they're not going to adjust them for every single guy who tries them out as that would take too long. If you were to put the lenses all the way in you'd have better FoV.

Them damn glasses users *shakes fist*
Thats great news though as it means what I thought was an issue never existed in the first place lol
And I might have an issue I didn't think would exist... Unless the FOV is self-correcting when you're wearing glasses.
Although, to be fair, it might just be time to man up and stick pieces of plastic in my eyes. I'm slowly realizing I don't look quite as good with glasses as I think I do, or that I don't really need them to define my face anymore. (And several very pretty girls have agreed... At least, I assume they were pretty. I wasn't wearing my glasses.)
Go for it, been wearing contacts for two months and it's awesome! Nothing limiting the field of view, no glasses to take care of, the only downside being that you have to take a few minutes every morning and evening to put them on/take them off and clean.
And yeah, got a few compliments about my look, too.
I only wear contacts, I can't stand glasses.
But I can only wear contacts on my left eye, so I have no depth perception for small objects at all :v:
Sometimes when I see a bee or something flying on the other side of the street, I'm like oh fuck it's right in front of me.

If you get the newer style of contacts you don't even need to do that.
I wear contacts that I can sleep in for several days at a time. Worst thing I have to do is put eye drops in my eyes to re-wet contacts after sleeping with them in.
I still take them out every few days though.
So I noticed a major problem with the rift
There's no Battle of Hoth game yet. Get crackin' EA / indies!

So I'm making a small game for my final year project, and I will probably post it here and look for some feedback for my documentation. It's a Wizard game that uses the Rift and the Hydras. Just wondering, do you guys think that controlling the direction you move should be determined by where you look with the Hydra, or by using left and right on the Hydra joy stick?
Like I guess having the Rift control where you move makes it more user friendly, as people who don't play games wont have to move the Hydra joystick left and right, but wondering what you guys think

Test it. And keep testing with different people. Find out what feels intuitive and simple to use.

Yeah, I have silicone-hydrogel lens, suited for continuous wear. Though my doctor said it's better to treat them as classic lens when possible. I sleep in them a few times in a month, like after a party when I'm glad I even managed to get home :v:

Interesting tidbit: they're using the old HD Rift prototype that was shown last year. That one was never publicly available for developers.

EA makes plenty of good games. Their flagships are milked to hell, but I personally enjoyed Titanfall.
I think we give them a lot of (partially-deserved, sure) flak. At the same time, they did Mirror's Edge (which we're getting a sequel to), they're doing a new Battlefront that's supposed to stay true to the original (we'll see, but I'm hopeful), they've made the Sims (for which the DLC is Train Simulator-expensive, but it's an extremely fun game, if you're into that sort of thing.)
They do a lot of crap, but they also do some pretty good stuff. That's part of being a massive publishing company, considering Ubisoft and Activision do the same thing. At least they're not King.com.
Seriously though, if future AAA titles start taking the rift and Morpheus seriously... Fuuuck, m8.
A Star Wars battlefront with the Rift.

I wasn't saying EA makes good things, just that they own the rights to Star Wars video games now

This is getting VR support if it gets funded on KS.
Eh, I'd like to see it come a little further before I'd back it with any money.

I actually really fucking love the aesthetic, something about low-poly models with flat colours just makes me happy. Shame it's probably not getting funded at all at this rate.
