Apparently they ditched the QR-code covered room in exchange for the same positional tracking system as DK2.
Someone else on Facepunch said this was just a portable model and that's why they didn't use the QR codes.
Is CV1 still slated for the next release after DK2? I'm itching for VR, but I don't want to buy a DK2 if I can avoid it.
Of what I've heard and remember so will the CV1 come after DK2. I guess it will come during Q4 or 2015 Q2

Valve Challenges Oculus with 'Dota 2' VR Headset
Virtual reality developers and enthusiasts alike recently gathered at the Boston VR Bender, where attendees were encouraged to experiment with the Unity game engine and build new software on the spot. One of the most intriguing finds from the meetup is Valve's 'Dota 2' headset, which provides Oculus Rift-type functionality with sharper displays and detailed motion tracking.

Reddit user jonomf documented his time with the Dota 2 (named after Valve's popular strategy title), noting that the headset provided "low persistence, perfect tracking [and a] very high frame rate."

The Dota 2's dual vertical displays create a resolution of 2160 x 1280 pixels, which is crisper than the Oculus Rift's 1920 x 1080.
Why is it that every time Valve does something it gets taken completely out of context?
Anyone got a list of the recent tech demos that have come out, or like games.
Not been updated on this in a while and the last cool video I saw was the video game where you were in the first person view of someone playing a video game, horror type game.
Any other stuff came out?
Valve isn't aiming for commercial VR, they've said so a while ago. They're working together. The "Dota 2"'s price wouldn't be anywhere near the price of the Oculus Rift.
Paul Pepera, a game artist that worked for Valve, id (prepare yer lawsuits), 343 software and TimeGate employee has been hoovered up by ol' Palmer.
https://twitter.com/PaulPepera/status/474238142204362754
So I guess they're really going to start making their own games / software? And man everyone really is leaving Valve...
Good news his is LinkedIn page confirms Valve is actually working on something, which is hard to believe sometimes.

K&L released their newest and greatest experience so far. The guys who did the Batcave + K&L Station.
http://blog.kiteandlightning.la/
I'm personally not even watching youtube videos about it, going to save the first time for the DK2. But if you have a DK1 you might want to give it a try (or wait for DK2 for the best experience)
I watched the video of it, it's a top quality demo. Definitely adding it first for dk2

My HD7950 had trouble running it on quality settings at 1080p. At native DK1 resolution it sucks that so much of the detail is lost. Wonder how they did the characters, they're recordings (so not actual models), but they somehow avoid them from looking flat in VR.

That's weird.

Sub-60 fps on quality UE4 scenes isn't all that weird. What's your performance?

Tried to start it but it's just a black screen. Maybe it needs a DK1 plugged in to work.
I'll probably have to upgrade my 560ti before the CV1 comes out with its ~1440p goodness. Thinking about the 770, but not in any hurry. If CV1 comes out next year it'll be much cheaper then
Would a 660Ti work for the OR looking at current predictions?

Depends on what program you run.

Sony just presented Morpheus on stage on the Tonight Show.
What do you guys want to bet we're going to be hearing more about this thing this week?

E3 is this week. That's like going to a Formula 1 race and betting you'll hear engine noises.

It's great to see more development behind the 'power glove' solution for hand tracking. However it still suffers from that one issue that makes me sceptical of it ever becoming a consumer product in its current state: no force feedback. You continuously have to visually verify the success of your action. You can't grab, touch or interact with an object without having to look at it, like how I'm typing these sentences with my keyboard without having to look at my fingers.

Palmer will speak during the EA conference from 4-5PM ET. Weird, EA said a month ago that they had no virtual reality games in development but what if they reveal some now?
