Warcraft 4 with rift support
they should have made it out of .hack, as they use a controller there [editline]3rd July 2014[/editline] https://vine.co/v/MU12VwlF1vt
that looks like a migraine but I want to try it so bad also I've heard tons of talk from the SAO crowd but nothing from hack, weird now that I think about it. Also isn't the SAO anime mediocre and full of filler

Also isn't the SAO anime mediocre and full of filler
the masses don't care :v: it's popular so it's popular [editline]3rd July 2014[/editline] Oculus employee comments on the China sales suspension:
Yes, it is a bummer that we've had to suspend sales in China due to extreme reseller purchases. We need to make sure that we are doing what we can to make sure that resellers that are looking to flip our product for a profit are not taking stock away from legitimate developer purchases globally. Our product, in its current form, is a developer kit, meant for developers that develop VR content. We are looking into alternative ways to make sure that our development kits are getting into legitimate developer hands in China. If you are an enthusiast, we kindly ask that you wait for the consumer Rift. It will be worth the wait.

No, we didn't cancel all China orders, that would be messed up. :) As stated above, we are looking into an alternative sales process. I don't have any timeline, but we have made it a priority. We love our developers!

wow the people using it don't move their heads at all apart from the last guy who holds the rift like they're binoculars or something. is it a that alien of a device to use?
seems the demos were very focused on what was going on in front of you. The device still provides 3D, and I know I'd be spending some time just trying to look at the pixel density
I saw no Asuna-screwing in that video... Not sure where they're coming from with that. I'm really surprised they managed to nail the art style in that demo. That's really cool. It's like an exact translation of the anime. (I enjoyed the anime. New season starts Saturday.)
It irks me when people talk about "3D" with the Rift. I guess "VR" needs more time to set in. 3D just reminds me of the current gimmicky shit (movies, TVs, glasses) and I bet a lot of people who have never heard about or experienced VR/the Rift think that's what the Rift is, when someone says "It's a pair of goggles/a headset that shows a game in 3D"

In fact, it's incredibly accurate. The Rift uses one of the oldest forms of 3D, stereoscopic barrel-warped images, to provide a sense of depth. It's another 3D HMD, but they've improved upon that concept with head-tracking technology to achieve virtual reality. I think it may be underselling VR, but calling the Rift a 3D headset isn't terrible. It does have the gimmicky connotations, but VR had those same connotations in the 90s... Unless we're forgetting the VirtualBoy so soon.

I'm kinda happy to be (likely) in the second batch of devkits, as it means a lot of projects will have been updated to support the dk2 by the time it arrives.
Oculus just announced Oculus Connect, a conference for everything Oculus. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1523379957/oculus-rift-step-into-the-game/posts/902527
In the last two years, we’ve seen more virtual reality content built than in the last two decades, and that’s a direct result of incredible work by the community. With virtual reality’s momentum at an all-time high, this is a unique moment for the developer community to come together to take the virtual reality to the next level. Oculus Connect 2014 takes place Sept 19 - 20 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. Attendee applications will be available on the Oculus Connect website, www.oculusvr.com/connect, starting on July 10th and attendance confirmations will go out the following week. We’ve reserved a block of discounted rooms at the Loews for registered guests. Attendees will be the first to learn about upcoming Oculus technology, with sessions and workshops led by Oculus engineers and industry pioneers. Developers at the event will also have opportunities to receive design and engineering feedback directly from the Oculus team in hands-on labs. Oculus Connect will also feature keynotes from Brendan Iribe (CEO), Palmer Luckey (Founder), John Carmack (CTO) and Michael Abrash (Chief Scientist) on Oculus, virtual reality, and the future of the medium. The full session list will be announced as we draw closer to the show. [...]
Best thing? John Carmack has a keynote again.
do you think they will announce CV1 there?
do you think they will announce CV1 there?
That sounds... Actually, that sounds really likely. It's the prime part of the year for a Holiday release announcement, and they'll probably actually have something to show there since they've apparently officially started work on a CV1 production prototype after the DK2 ship date. Seriously. It's a giant conference run by the people who are expected to release a VR headset in the next year. You don't host a giant conference unless you plan to announce something worthy of a giant conference.
an entire conference on VR is going to be fucking rad
an entire conference on VR is going to be fucking rad
an entire conference in VR would be fucking radder can you imagine if they do that once the CV is out?
So way before I even had heard of the rift, I ventured out to make a little something on my own to learn how to, well how to do anything. So modeling, texturing, programming & working with sound. It resulted into making this. Then this Aaaaaand then this And after a while that resulted into making this, which turned out to be a great learning experience. Not to mention it was loads of fun. But now I'm wondering, having owned a DK1 myself and having spend hours in the virtual cinema :v: I've started thinking to myself, would this have any potential with the rift? What do you guys think? Now it might seem a bit boring with a static camera , but think of multiplayer, fireworks, smoke...the whole shabang

560 upgraded to a 770 Bring on the DK2
yeah i was thinking about upgrading my 6950 but 800s (change it up to nvidia this time) may or may not be soonish. and i did just drop $300 on an oculus rift maybe i'll get a 770. i'll see how my performance is with the devkit first.
Waiting to see if AMD will announce something better than R9 290 sometime soon-ish. First upgrade for me will be this little FX 6100. It has served me well, but it's not enough for modern gaming now (At the highest settings, I love me some eye candy).
surely the first devkits are going to have to start dispatching soon to start arriving in a week?
they did say "the week of the 14th", not the 14th. but yes emails confirming a charge / shipping should be going out this week
So. Much. Regret. That I didn't order one as soon as it came available....
$25 VR kit (1080p smartphone not included) [t]https://gweb-cardboard.appspot.com/img/seq/68.jpg[/t] http://www.dodocase.com/products/google-cardboard-vr-goggle-toolkit https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.samples.apps.cardboarddemo https://developers.google.com/cardboard/
I'm going to do this.
I'm waiting for the CV1 requirements to be nailed down before I order a new graphics card. I don't want to get something I'll have to upgrade within a year because I jumped the gun. Doesn't hurt that I'm still a little broke right now... Would a graphics card be a good use of a student loan, or is that just ridiculous and stupid?
