How is that asking if they are resellers at all
And that email means shipping emails probably arent today (to let that email have some effect)

it's not directly asking them if they're resellers, but it's going to trip up any orders that were made en mass, especially if they were automated
Using V-Sync will be mandatory with the DK2.
Well, with DK1 it was somewhat acceptable to run without V-Sync. You would get tearing, but it could be minor or not noticeable.
However, on DK2 because the screen is rotated, the tear is vertical. This means that it's possible for the eyes to go out of sync and this is a major issue. So you really need V-Sync on for DK2.
That said, time-warp should be able to relieve many of these issues.
So is that making it a mandatory 90fps?
So is that making it a mandatory 90fps?
How? It's still 75.
How? It's still 75.
Oh. I thought DK2 was 90fps.
Anyway, they brought up a good point on the subreddit: Won't this increase input lag in all games? It seems odd that, after they've done all this work to reduce input lag, they'd negate most of that by forcing V-sync.

Trust Timewarp to work its magic.
Trust Timewarp to work its magic.
Can Timewarp prevent the 5-6 frame input delay that most V-sync implementations cause?
I mean, I guess it would help with the predictive head tracking, to sort of circumvent that input delay, but I'm not really sure exactly how they plan on getting "presence" with lag. That seems like it'd be disorienting.
EDIT: I've just looked at a few more posts, and it seems like the best way to resolve screen tearing without v-sync is to set max pre-rendered frames to 1 in your GPU settings, and limit your games to your target framerate. I wonder if that would work for the Rift too?

Hey, so I've got a question about hardware requirements and performance.
I've got a GTX 560Ti. I know I'll probably have to upgrade by the time I get a Rift, but I'm perpetually broke. How well does a 560Ti work with the current demos and games, and how low would I have to drop the settings in order to get things like Strike Suit Zero or Lunar Flight to be playable?
What resolution and framerate am I aiming for? I know, in the current DK2, one viewport is roughly less than half the pixels of a full 1080p panel (due to the barrel warping, cropping, etc.) If I can run TF2 at max at about 1080p 100fps, would I be able to run it in VR at suitable frame rates?
I figure if I can get an idea of what resolutions I'm aiming for, I can do some benchmarking in 3D mode and try to hit an acceptable framerate. I know the 770 is recommended minimum, but I see these demos running on laptops, and I'm wondering if those requirements are really the case.
I guess, while I'm at it, how well does an Intel i5 2500k over clocked to 4Ghz work with the Rift? Would that be able to hold up, or am I looking at a complete rebuild?
I doubt anyone knows since no one knows the cv1 specs
Also if you are that broke and in school hold off on all this until cv1. Better yet the Christmas after cv1
Edit
Also cpu shouldnt matter a ton with the rift. That is more game specific. The rift does most of its work on the gpu I think
well i guess today is over. so they have one more work day to start shipping these or they probably won't meet their deadline of next week
i'm expecting a delay announcement monday or tuesday
[editline]11th July 2014[/editline]
[sp]hopefully i just jinxed it in a good way and the shipping emails will go out tonight[/sp]
I greatly apologize if I am posting this in the wrong section, as it fits both this thread and the trading threads in the TF2 subforum, or if CD key purchasing is allowed on Facepunch.
I am looking to buy anyone's unused code to redeem a TF2RVH in-game hat that came with the development kits through kickstarter or through backing the kickstarter.. I can offer anything from cash through paypal to steam wallet funds. I'm in the process of trying to get one of every available hat in the game, and this is one of the last few Genuine quality items I still need.
Oculus is currently sending emails to anyone who ordered 2 or more Rifts, to make sure that they're not resellers.

I got that email 4 days ago because there were issues with payments in the first hour or so following the announcement, resulting in that orders went through even if you got an error message. So I wouldn't say it's for reaching out to resellers in any way.

Mine actually went through twice in the same payment issues situation (ordered 36 mins after it opened), but they automatically refunded the second deposit.
Looks like the best case situation (first kits in someone's hands on 14th) isn't happening then.
:(
i hope mine's still waiting for me when I'm back on the 20th

Palmer hinted at a delay of a few days on the subreddit, but it's apparently not enough to warrant an announcement. Normally a company would build up stock before setting a release date, but Oculus is getting stuff out as fast as they can, so they're more easily affected by small manufacturing and shipping delays.
Someone over on the Oculus subreddit was trying to convince me that a $1000 system is cheap because it's the price of an international plane ticket.
How often does he think people fly internationally?
Not sure what kind of plane tickets this guy buys but my flight to Asia and back doesn't cost that much.
Unless it's the entire family which makes it actually quite cheap for a one-year buy thing which you don't need to upgrade for a few years.
I finally got to try out the DK1 at Midwest Game Developers Summit today. I already made an FOV2GO and it was basically the same thing, but more comfortable and with less distortion. It's nothing particularly mind-blowing but I'm sure CV1 will be.
I'm thinking about picking up a Hasbro 3D Viewer, since it uses a similar system to the Rift's stereoscopic 3D, just to get an idea of what to expect. They're about $7 on Amazon. Anybody have any experience with them?

Friends, I got to try to the CV1 today. It was absolutely mind blowing. It's a bit more bulky than DK1 but the size is worth it. The screen door effect has been completely eliminated and the head tracking is so fast that you can't see any ghosting. The only downside is that it leaks a strange brown fluid. Perhaps someone left chocolate on the inside while they were building it.
Is that a coffeemaker with a footpedal?
another day another lack of communication
they better not wait until thursday / friday to announce a delay. rather unprofessional
Seems Palmer is going to commit himself to tweeting more (he barely used that account before):

Hatsune Miku is everyone's waifu, though...
I hope the shipping issues are sorted out by next month mine arrives all timely like
Rift shipments delayed until the middle of next week (so exactly 1 week from now)
A quick update:
We've decided to hold the initial shipment of DK2s until the middle of next week so that we have an additional week to polish and QA the new Oculus SDK.
We’ve been working on this update for over a year, with a focus on making the Rift easier to use and develop for. There are multiple major improvements including overhauled device and display handling, and we want to make sure the new SDK ready for integration by thousands of developers when DK2s start arriving at doorsteps.
Sorry to make everyone wait another week. We wouldn’t delay if it wasn't important.
The good news is that this only affects the very first group that would have received their units, and this doesn't change the total number of units that will ship in July.
Again, we'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for bearing with us!
