right, if you have/are getting a DK2, you need to try the Proton Pulse demo - it's by far the best demo I've played on either DK1 or 2, it's astonishing
Eve Valkyrie looks like it'll be an amazing experience too.
I'm in the September batch!
oops misread that
and I would definitely say that nothing on the DK1 was able to immerse me that deeply, so I doubt his writing a little
a bit off topic but the only thread I can think of posting this in.
so yesterday I got an eye test done for the first time because I plan on driving soon. Apparently I'm short sighted (-1.50 and -1.75) which I've known but I've never really known what it'd be like with glasses so I was a bit excited.
First time trying out actual glasses. HOLY FUCK everything is in super hd. I can't live without them. I've had posters on my wall which I've always thought looked blurry and low resolution as shit, apparently they are not.
Everything looks fucking awesome now, the grass, the trees, the ocean, people, for fuck sake even looking at a freshly done shit is interesting now. I used to download posters in 2560x1440 of scenery and think damn that must have been a high resolution camera to take a pic like that. Little did I know, YOU CAN ACTUALLY USE YOUR EYES TO SEE THAT SHIT IN REAL LIFE, WHAT THE FUCK.
I don't know how long it is but I literally can't not smile when looking at stuff now. Everything looks fucking amazing, people probably think I'm high or something.
I've spent my whole life in fuckin 240p. Imagine the jump I'm going to get when I get an oculus rift and go fly around space or something and look at astoroids. Padre forgive me for I will sin.

Not even bad man.
I was like -4 in the left and -4.5 in the right before I started to wear glasses. I didn't wear them to school though because I didn't want to wear them there for some reason. So I spent years stretching the corner of my left eye to see what the teacher was doing and not seeing jack shit really. It wasn't until the 8th grade before I got contacts.
I wear contacts now though

I know it's not bad and I'm exaggerating a bit with the whole 240p thing but its really a massive difference. Sure I can see things but I can't read text and now everything is crisp as fuck compared to before where everything was fuzzy. for example the leaves on trees and shit blended in with each other.
Now I can actually see the leaves individually. I can look at the moon without it sort of blurrying into itself and turning into 6 moons

how long did you go with that vision before you got glasses?
My vision turned to shit when I was around 11.
Also didn't help that my right eye has had iritis in it since I've been 10
I´m all over the place with my left eye (can´t even tell if it is short sighted or near sighted as both just look horrible and never really got the specs for my glasses) while my right is completely normal. Also a bit of a cross eye.
Rarely wear my glasses as it sort of balances where its slightly blurry but not enough to be a distraction. And a negative part of losing that slightly blurry part is that faces just get fucking ugly with small hairs, pores, and wrinkles :v:

I never knew my friend had braces before I put on the contacts

I hope I'll be able to see with OR well
First time trying out actual glasses. HOLY FUCK everything is in super hd.
When my mom first got her glasses we were driving her home and she looked up out of the car and said "THERE'S LEAVES ON THE TREES!" and suddenly I wasn't all too happy about how much she drove prior to this
I've got -1.5 and -1.75 too and I can't imagine going out w/o glasses/contacts. I think I wouldn't even recognize people.
Going a little off the topic here, but my sight was actually -2.15 and -2.5 two years ago. I, thinking it got worse then went to the doctor and he told me the truth and that he has never seen anybody with my problem getting this better.
Actually part of the reason I started using contacts was so I could be ready for the Rift.
tbh I'm tempted to go and get my eyes re-checked, I'm noticing things getting blurrier and blurrier
you guys have it easy
I got -9 far sight and -3 near sight, shit's fucking awful. I wear contacts though, since with glasses of this size everything is really really small. Also contacts are way sharper than glasses
Man I remember getting my glasses. I'd been living with -1.5 and -2.0 for like a year and finally went and got some glasses. Everyone (including me, after getting them) thought it was amazing how I went that year without needing glasses (seeing as I used to drive before that, wasn't too comfortable actually).
I have a feeling that we're all kinda backing up the saying 'if you stare at that screen long enough your eyes will go square'
[editline]29th July 2014[/editline]
kids growing up in the future won't have this problem with their super-VR-HMDs, seeing as your eyes think they're looking into the distance

I've always wondered if that was true. If it was true, or is, I wonder if stopping looking at the computer for long periods of time can improve your vision or if it's molded after adulthood. If it did help, I wonder if oculus rift could do anything to help.
[editline]30th July 2014[/editline]
either way I can't stop looking at computer screens. I'll never be able to stopn until they bring out a permanent vr helmet I can wear 24/7. I'm basically fuked
Just a quick FYI for anyone with vision problems here (most of you probably already know this): if you're far-sighted you can use the Rift without any problems whatsoever. If you're near-sighted, you'll have to use glasses or contacts with the Rift to see things sharp. If you're lucky the alternative lenses you can pop into the DK2 correct your vision well enough that you don't need anything else. I don't quite remember what strength of near-sightedness they compensate for.

fuck
anyone know the strength of them?
Another DK1 vs DK2 lense view comparison of the SDE. Taken from a youtube video so the quality suffers a bit, but you can abouts see the difference. Click to enlarge

Man I can barely, if at all see any pixels or dots or anythin.
Nevermind I was just looking at the thumbnail. In the full image you can see some but it's nowhere near bad

The increase in quality is outstanding, honestly.

How so? It's literally a screen and lenses right in front of you, why would being near-sighted be a problem?

nah your eyes are focused on infinity so they work more or less like real life.
question tho, how much exactly like real life? will I see the same distance infront of me ingame as I would in real life or what?

why did they increase the saturation for the dk2 image?

I think the screen door effect on the DK2 is so subtle that the YouTube compression further diffuses it. It's a bit more protruded at the lower left corner.
My DK2s are still on schedule for Thursday!
why did they increase the saturation for the dk2 image?
With the new OLED panel comes more saturation, and you could even argue that it's a bit over saturated.
cv1 is so exciting. I wonder what new things will be added into it. I hope it's at least 2560x1440
CV2 will be directly plugged into the brain

Have you looked at porn since getting glasses? Curious, is it better or worse now because of the clarity?

Looks like it's time to get contacts.
