Shipping delays? Only the first batch was delayed. Everything after should be send on their planned dates. At least I didn't hear about any new delays.
oh... awesome! I thought everything was delayed because there was so many orders for some reason.
thx
Well, I've hit my goal for my VR fund: $700.
That's enough to replace my graphics card once the 800 series launches, as well as buy a Rift.
Time to stick it under my mattress and wait.

That's where everyone hides their money. Has Mr Krabs not taught you anything?
I hide my money in my bank account
beat that fuckers

I hide mine in two Credit Union accounts.
I think you've been beat.

That money could go to textbooks. Or tuition. Or loans.
Wait until cv1 comes out to actually think about buying it and see what your money situation is then. If your parents are helping you with school then that's effectively $700 you took away from them. I'm only saying all thos since you have complained about money issues in this thread before, all I'm suggesting is that you think on it some more.
And I hope nvidia doesn't have $700 flagship cards again (x80 cards, they used to be like 500 but titan fucked it up)

hey it's nice to spend for yourself sometimes every now and then.
My family's not in any position to be helping me out for school, and they aren't. I'm actually paid in full with scholarships this year, outside of a $128 fee for student services. That's including books as well.
It's not like I only have $700, either. I've got a fair bit more than that. $700 is just what I've portioned out from everything else, a sinking fund.
My finances are fine. I don't need your advice. If it's not too much trouble, mind your own damn business.
Then maybe you shouldn't complain about your finances on a forum where you seem like a teen who is bad with money. When you make these things public don't be so hostile when someone comments on it. Don't want any comments? Then don't post about it.
That post clears it up but before that it was "I don't have much money, am in school, and want to make a large purchase." I was just trying to give some nice advice without sounding rude.
The Totoro thing works with DK2 now. Dunno if anyone else knew that yet.

Maybe you should work on your delivery, and try not to be as patronizing. It's demeaning, honestly, and it's not exactly conducive to civil conversation.
I'd also like to point out that others have made similar posts, but you haven't so much as mentioned them. I make two posts about not having the cash to order a DK2 right before the ship date, one of them very clearly joking, and you flip out. Why even bring it up? What does that do for you?
When you're done pretending to be a financial advisor, let me know.
(But please, do it privately. This is the Oculus Rift thread, not the Personal Finance thread. I'm pretty sure everyone else is getting tired of your threadshitting.)
Shit just got REAL

I'm so jealous of you guys, as a 16 year old I wish I had money I could spend on everything I'm truly enthusiastic about.
First impressions: FoV compared to the DK1 is not that different when you dial the lenses outwards a bit instead of putting them all the way in. Screendoor still visible - but it's less pronounced and the increase in resolution is very noticeable. Positional tracking is fucking amazing, as is low persistence. Elite: Dangerous is the best DK2 thing to date
Had no problems setting it up, got lucky I guess. True black smearing is noticeable only in certain areas. The Spirited Away boiler room demo is full of the smearing, the shadows of the dark corridor at the start are horrendous looking. But in E:D, I didn't notice any smearing. The resolution is not enough yet for consumers, so I'm looking forward to the CV1.
Can you at least read text in E:D
Yes you can, but some smaller text requires you to lean in closer (dat pos tracking), and text in general is "readable" but not "sharp". You can make out the words but they are very pixelated.
I honestly can't wait until they manage to squeeze 4k screens in there
the experience would be amazing
Any estimate on when the consumer version is coming?
Any estimate on when the consumer version is coming?
early 2015
2015
early 2015
fuck I was hoping it was sooner
2015 is close enough, so that I'm gonna be able to afford a better pc before it comes out. Fuck I'm really happy right now, got a better job so everything is going to be fine. My pc is shitballs so I wouldn't be able to play it decently anyway, if I want to be immersed might as well be ready for it. Also, if Facebook didn't buy it, wouldn't it take longer?
In the manual:

What should actually be shown:

Mounted my camera higher up behind my monitor instead of on my monitor, and I can actually stand up and sit down in the demo scene without losing tracking.

With the new OLED panel comes more saturation, and you could even argue that it's a bit over saturated.
it shouldn't really look that different. but knowing that it's a samsung display kind of makes me think that the calibration is just a bit crap (as the note 3 display is pretty terribly calibrated by standard)

i actually wish they had went with JDi instead of samsung but oh well

Carmack's talk at SMU LYLE School of Engineering from a while back. It's long (as expected), but lots of interesting info. He elaborates a bit on his transition progress from id to Oculus after Zenimax execs stopped showing interest in VR.
Edit: Second Life burn at 1:25:40.

I urge those of you still waiting for DK2 to sign up for UPS My Choice and have it send notifications to say your phone & email and a bunch of other free things you can do for your packages.
I had an unrelated package get to my house @ 10pm by UPS, I rather arrange pickup than wait.
NOTE TO DK2 OWNERS: do NOT use the dark-grey wiping cloth that is included with the DK2 for wiping the lenses. Lot of people saying it scratches the lenses.

Well, I suppose if you wanted the authentic Battlefield experience - but on a permanent scale, go ahead.

Tried to take an image with my smartphone (S5) about a menu in E:D but it's hard as it doesn't fit close enough to the lens. Here's what I was able to take, just to show what I mean by "readable but not sharp". The chromatic aberration is caused by the camera not being at the right position, it's not this visible ingame.
Click to enlarge. Tried to keep the size about what you'd see ingame so the SDE is close to reality (camera only captures it on the panel tho)
