that SL is boring and there is nothing to do in it
I'm gonna cave in and buy DK2 sometime next week, probably. Any good estimate on when it might arrive for me if I do? I figure the August shipment is a bit late for me.

Oh, oop, nevermind, say it right on the order page :v:
New orders are expected to begin shipping in September 2014.
Pretty neat!

uh, that's probably going to change soon if you don't buy now. Unless they've changed it. I remember that they like to have the delivery date 2 months in advance.

I don't have the money at this exact moment, but I will sometimes next week. So I should be good to go.

you'd think an aging nerd would fit right in
SL is really what you make it. If you don't know what to do in SL, you're guaranteed to do absolutely nothing.

I think I learned my most basic modelling from that game.
As in, I made a Minecraft Ghast that hovered over your shoulder.
As in, I took 6 cubes and applied square textures to them.
Still though.

Also this was pretty off-topic. I apologize.

Traveling to solar systems using the hyperspace jumping in Elite: Dangerous and ending up just in front of the sun genuinely frightens me every time, I just can't get over the sense of scale.
edit: VorpX is getting positional tracking working with Skyrim. I wonder what other games could be "ported" well?

Rise of Flight, I sincerely hope so.
christ loverslab will have a field day with the rift
Rise of Flight, I sincerely hope so.
Wouldn't be surprised if they do it, considering they have it working for IL2 Battle of Stalingrad :v:, and since rolling on a modified version of the RoF engine, I don't think it's a huge undertaking for them.
I pre ordered my rift today, when can I expect it to be with me? Don't worry, I'm not even expecting September so I don't ask this out of hope
i was also wondering if when your wearing the oculus rift, can you see anything other than the game your playing? Is there any black edges around the sides of the screen? Or does it take up your whole field of view
Does anyone have the Rift with Leap Motion? How is that?
With games as Elite: Dangerous i could imagine that being quite incredible if implanted properly.

Look at my KEYBOARD HANDS!
It's just like Star Trek, you too can pretend to type on painted plexiglass screens.

Even just the subtle vibrations do some much to make the game look so real.

You didn't preorder the rift, you ordered the current developer kit, which will get to you in a few months due to shipping limitations and demands.
Just making sure you're aware that the consumer edition is not available for preorder yet.

I am aware if this. So can I expect it at the end of September? Also you didn't answer my question about the view inside the rift

I don't know really but I mean if they said september then it'll probably be september right? they've had plenty of time to edit it if their shipping is still fucked up.

Okay, thanks, but could I please know about the VIEW inside the rift? Can you see the edges or does it encompass your whole eyesight?
Yes there are black edges. Cup your hands at the side of your eyes and it's like that. Think of wearing a scuba mask.
Based on previous discussion in this thread a few days ago:
Computational power to render the scene gets exponentially larger or something similarly bad, as the field of view increases. For this reason, and hardware availability reasoning, the field of view is not enough to capture your whole range of sight. However, this does not stop you from immersing yourself into it and not caring; it should not be too bad.

How can so many people be blown away from it if it has that?

So basically it's still very impressive and immersive? how noticeable is it?
You'll understand once you put it on your head
How can so many people be blown away from it if it has that?
because it's still an impressive FOV and if you've ever worn glasses you're used to being even more restricted. It's not like you're looking through binoculars

I think it sounds worse than it is. It's really a matter of putting it on your head and finding out.
Okay so I should remain hyped and not let that put a dampers on things?
Does it cover as much view as aviator sunglasses?
(They don't really cover the most extreme angles your eyes can look at, but cover more than enough, so I figured they could be a good comparison)
I'm planning to build a pc once I get the money together and was wondering if I could handle games with the oculus rift. It's gonna be an i3-4130 with the GTX 750ti.

No.
i5 and 770 are considered minimum according to Oculus.
