been messing around with the dk2 for the last few hours. great stuff. the resolution is much better, although still not large enough. the chromatic aberration is pretty apparent on the edges and i can't seem to find a sweet spot to make it unnoticeable. also my nose is always in pain.
i only tried a handful of demos. some where pretty neat, others were just basic visual demos, and a few just crashed on startup. seems like the better demos/games need to be purchased. i'm really impressed overall though. what demo do you guys recommend the most?
E:D
live for speed
miku entertainment sphere stage (it's actually the most smoothly working demo i've seen so far and has some of the highest feeling of "presence")
lava inc. rollercoaster
totoro + spirited away demos
the great gottlieb
vanguard V
whats the name of that software that lets you watch certain oculus rift enabled videos?

VR Player.
Live for Speed patch 0.6F4 for the Rift is out. Now includes low persistence and predictive tracking, and less input lag.

Holy fuck it's perfect. The juddering is entirely gone and the low persistence is flawless. One of the best dk2 experiences to date.

The only thing missing now is chromatic aberration correction which isn't fully implemented in LFS yet.
I was worried the rift might not be an ideal fit for me and my glasses so I built a google cardboard to see how I can roll without glasses. Although being incredibly long sighted (Over +10 in both eyes, with astig and prism, egh) there's a definite sweet spot with the lenses and the lcd that allows me clear vision without my glasses.
I used the recommended lenses, From what I can gather they aren't far off the rift in focal length so I may be able to use this thing without my glasses! I am waiting for CV1 though, despite being a dev.
I imagine its going to work well with my G27 setup.

This might be a kinda weird question but has anyone ever experimented with using drugs to increase presence? Like, something that loosens the grasp on reality and makes you kinda less focused on the flaws of the rift.
Well drunk driving in ETS2 is fucking hilarious that's for sure
still no word about any shipment :(
Man I'm really excited about the CV1. It's weird that virtual reality is actually becoming a real thing. In real life.
Like it's suddenly starting to sink in.

That's actually a really interesting idea... I'd love to see a regulated, safe study on it.
Or, you know, if you want to test it and get back to us, that'd work too.

So, I've been looking at computer hardware lately, graphics cards and stuff, and I'm wondering if the GTX 880 will be enough to support a Rift for a few years. What do you all think?
yes
[editline]10th August 2014[/editline]
although that would depend on what kind of games you would play in a few years

Well, what are the current projections for power on the 880? Say I want to play Project Cars or Elite: Dangerous, if a 780 can handle that, wouldn't an 880 do more?
By NVIDIA's claim 880 will be 20%+ over 780.
If only graphics card generations were jumping in power as much as in late 90s/early 00s. Too bad releasing a brand new card every year with a 10-30% power increase, makes them more money than giant leaps.

the GPU market is in dire need of some extra competition

I'm still getting pretty noticeable jitter with it (granted no where near as bad as ETS2). is it because i patched over f3 maybe?

You still get those giant leaps if you're slow to upgrade, though. This is the power I'm getting when I upgrade, with the 20% up from the 780 tacked on.
Granted, I'm on a card that's four years old, and I'd say that's pretty slow progress for four years... But, honestly, it doesn't matter much when consoles dictate how graphically-intensive modern games are going to be. We're not going to see massive leaps in visuals over the next five or six years, because there's already a baseline in place for graphical quality. Unless somebody makes a next-gen Crysis, we're stuck at slightly higher than PS4-level graphics.

Did you enable Vsync in both the misc and view options? If one of the two Vsync options is turned off you're gonna get stutter.

I'm so getting one of these once they are available.

Personally, I'd wait to see how the Radeon R9 300 series holds up to it first. R9 390x is rumored to be a beast.
Are the 880's really going to be $449? seems so redicuously cheap compared to it's predecessors.

Probably because of the long wait and still 28nm
Riftmax DK2 beta is out in 10 minutes. Multiplayer VR cinema for anyone with a DK2

I wouldn't complain about it, that's for sure. I wouldn't mind linear price brackets for GPUs becoming a thing.
Playing around with rift in E:D.
I haven't even notice any motion sickness in it and can play for quite awhile.
Though, I wish I had a DK2 or something so I can read text better.

How does the head-tracking in E:D work? Can you look around the cabin?
EDIT: Oh, yeah, looks like you can.
