I had trouble with working out what they meant by "only a bit of green" how much green am I meant to see and if I look about I'll see more green?
You can read the specifics of the calibration here: http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Oculus_Rift_User_Guide . The goal is to get the green lines at the very border of your view while your eye is directly looking at it (don't look straight ahead). In the end, this is just to calculate your Inter-Pupillary Distance (IPD). You can set that value (vr_separation_user_inches) directly if you know your IPD, apparently an optometrist can measure it for you.
I checked your youtube, why aren't you recording any of this!?
Because it'd basically be a Let's Play with Rift distortion? You can't really "record" the experience you feel while playing, expect for my occasional swear when there's suddenly a Zombine right in my face. I'll keep it in mind though, maybe I'll try it anyway.
Here's how to get a bit of the OR feeling. You need a smartphone with android on it (not sure if iOS has such an feature, I don't have anything from Apple).
I'd say it's worth a try even if it's not real virtual reality or anything, just to know how movements will be with the Rift.
Download/Open the Google Maps app,
Get into Streetview, turn on compass mode.
Get phone closer to face and move your head around with the phone at the same time.
Nothing special but if you're bored you could try it out because why not.
But please, fucking please, do this only if you have nothing to. This isn't worth the time if you're focused on something else.
Just played that part in HL2 Episode 1 where you wait for the elevator to get down. And waves of zombies come at you. And it's pitch black.
I'm going to have to lay down for a bit.
Are you using a keyboard/mouse or gamepad and what kind of chair are you sitting in?
Ok screw it I'll be streaming HL2 ep2 for an hour or so:

Edit: aaaand I'm done for tonight. Seems you can watch a recording here: http://www.twitch.tv/clavusaurus/b/404280318
Flashlight was bugged for some reason. It worked fine in HL2 and ep1. Maybe it's due to the recording.
Are you using a keyboard/mouse or gamepad and what kind of chair are you sitting in?
For HL2, simple keyboard and mouse in my desk chair. First Law demo is best played with a controller. I've also tried a few demos with the Razer Hydra. The input method doesn't matter that much, the Rift complements everything.
Garry got his Rift.

Does anyone know how to set Hawken to Oculus Rift mode? It seems to recognise the sensor, but it doesn't seem to work in stereo mode.
Any porn games for the Rift yet? 3D SexVilla would be the shit with the Rift.
Any porn games for the Rift yet? 3D SexVilla would be the shit with the Rift.
Combine that with that fleshlight controller and you've got the ultimate virtual sex experience.

I don't think they officially released Hawken's Rift support yet. I read that some folks got a work-in-progress version of it working by tweaking configuration files or something.

Yep.

All you need is Rift + Skyrim + Skyrim sex mods + fleshlight.
Combine that with that fleshlight controller and you've got the ultimate virtual sex experience.
we kid about it now, see how that goes in near future.
probably hilariously worse.
I wasn't kidding.
I played a game of Battlefield 3 just now (on the monitor), and it felt so weird after playing HL2 for hours in the Rift this past week. You feel more disconnected to what's happening on screen.

Really? That means I must get really attached to my Rift when I get one. I already feel really disconnected when looking at a regular monitor.

What? But they said it would be the first to launch with oculus support?
Yeah I thought Hawken and Doom 3 were like the Rift poster boys or whatever.
Yeah I thought Hawken and Doom 3 were like the Rift poster boys or whatever.
Well I saw the announcement saying Doom 3 wasn't going to support the Rift, but not Hawken, there was even videos of the oculus team showing it after they changed to the 7inch design.
What? But they said it would be the first to launch with oculus support?
I think it's cause they worded it weirdly. It's the first released game, aka not in beta or anything, that will get the official OR support. The question is when.
Well I saw the announcement saying Doom 3 wasn't going to support the Rift, but not Hawken, there was even videos of the oculus team showing it after they changed to the 7inch design.
IIRC they said Doom 3 wouldn't be a supporting title at launch, meaning it got delayed
in any case, they probably meant at actual launch.
not for the developer's test equipment release.
Given that the Galaxy S4 has a 1080 screen, do you guys think they will change the consumer version back to 5 inches?
Given that the Galaxy S4 has a 1080 screen, do you guys think they will change the consumer version back to 5 inches?
it would mean a smaller and lighter device, since the screen would be closer to your eyes for the same field of view.
I'm not sure how the screen door effect scales with screen sizes, pixel density and distance from eyes, intuitively I'd assume that a 1080p 7 inch screen and a closer 1080p 5 inch screen would be the same - but I'm not too sure
I guess anyone with phones/tablets with those screen sizes and pixel densities could do a quick experiment to confirm it
also I don't think they've even confirmed anything for the consumer version's screen
How far are the screens from your eyes? I'd guess quite a bit since otherwise it'd be hard to focus.
How far are the screens from your eyes? I'd guess quite a bit since otherwise it'd be hard to focus.
Optics take care of that.
Optics take care of that.
Makes sense.
How far are the screens from your eyes? I'd guess quite a bit since otherwise it'd be hard to focus.
You don't need to focus at all, your eyes are in rest state. It produces less eye strain than the monitor you're looking at right now.

Apparently sinful robot is no more, but the creators have moved on to this project:

Not sure why the other website is still up.

Where the hell did they find these people.
Old people getting horny.
There is no word for the amount of "NOPE" I experienced during this scene.

It's one of those moments where you just want to rip the Rift right off your head and throw it straight out of the window.
