Nice Palmer & Nate interview from Gamescom.
Wow that interviewer was awkward. I mean, I would be too, but damn. :v:
Man, I've tried Half Life 2 Deathmatch. Still a lot of fun. We should create a server and play it (all oculus players).
taking tf2/hl2 slow pace makes me barfy. hl2dm is one of the faster games i've played...
Would you really want carmack reading your source code though? He'd be facepalming every five minutes.
Knowing Carmack, he would fix the entire code, add VR and mod support, all before lunch.
CV1 should really use DisplayPort.
I'm not saying I disagree, but how widely-adopted is DisplayPort? I've never had a card with it... My laptop's got a MiniDisplay Port, though.
I'm not saying I disagree, but how widely-adopted is DisplayPort? I've never had a card with it... Televisions are keeping HDMI in the race really (yet another reason why consoles are bad for progress, eh).

I don't remember any 500-series GTX cards having DisplayPort capability, but I built this rig too long ago to remember much anyway.
My friends and I joke around about the Wii U not having any games all the time, even though most of us own one and love it. I'm not sure why that same behavior makes Notch a tool, other than because he's fairly rich and relatively famous.
It's more because of how fucking cynical he is in general, and how he's well known for shit coding, but feels "big" enough (which I guess he, literally, is) to throw cheap shots at a company struggling to put games out there because devs are a bitch (Nintendo is bitchy about Indie games too so 50-50) about landing games on the system. I mean that sorta thing would be fine for me or you to say, we know nothing about the business end of stuff like this, but he's been there, he knows it's not easy and that he was a lucky fuck that his idea catched on, in a parallel universe Minecraft could possibly have passed on as just "another indie" game. Bottom line, I just feel he's being needlessly narcissistic because he wants to be ~edgy~..
When did this all get started? Has hdmi, displayport, and 2 dvi. Same as my other one. May have started with 500s.
CV1 should really use DisplayPort.
what kind of advantage does DisplayPort have over HDMI or DVI
I believe there are different uses for them that make them more or less equal. Displayports are better for monitors while HDMI are better for TVs. HDMI can carry audio and ethernet.
Wasn't there and HDMI update that allowed 4K @ 60Hz? Aside from that, apparently DisplayPort allows for higher resolutions at higher refresh rates than HDMI. Probably because of the Audio feature (And anything else) HDMI has.
what kind of advantage does DisplayPort have over HDMI or DVI
Better bandwidth and there are no licensing-fees. Also DP is a sequel to DVI (Not the right word but you know)
I'm using a GTX 570 right now. Has hdmi, displayport, and 2 dvi. Same as my other one. May have started with 500s.
I've got a 560Ti, but it doesn't have DP. Maybe it was an optional thing.
I tried the occulus rift for the first time yesterday at the vancouver game of thrones exhibit, it was pretty neat. They had the cage elevators at castle black you go up the wall in and when you got to the top you turned around and walked to the edge and got shot then fell off. The graphics were not great but it still felt pretty immersive, they had effects like wind blowing on you while you went up in the elevator and the ground shaking etc
I've got a 560Ti, but it doesn't have DP. Maybe it was an optional thing.
I've got a 580, no DP :suicide:
I've got a 560Ti, but it doesn't have DP. Maybe it was an optional thing.
I checked the geforce site, looks like it was only a few had DP. And one had a mini dp. At the time I never figured I'd never need the DP on mine. But I do use it now.
The thing is, HDMI was created by and for TV industry, it's not really suitable for PC monitors due to various color space problems/variations. I even had a case where there would be some weird smearing when the monitor was connected by HDMI, while there was no problem with DP/DVI. If there's a successor to DVI, it's DP.
DP supports audio, has the highest bandwidth, is royalty free, supports daisy chaining. Direct upgrade.
When I first saw DP ports, I wondered if they would ever get more popular. Though, now that I've used it, I hope it starts cropping up on more things.
DP supports audio, has the highest bandwidth, is royalty free, supports daisy chaining. Direct upgrade.
hdmi supports audio Its fucking annoying cause when i take my headphones to go do some shit I gotta restart my PC to not have my monitors speakers active.
hdmi supports audio Its fucking annoying cause when i take my headphones to go do some shit I gotta restart my PC to not have my monitors speakers active.
nah just go in to the audio settings and change your primary device to your headphones If that happens.
DP supports audio, has the highest bandwidth, is royalty free, supports daisy chaining. Direct upgrade.
HDMI supports audio too, but still DP is currently the best format.
nah just go in to the audio settings and change your primary device to your headphones If that happens.
it doesnt even recognise the headphones anymore lol
DisplayPort also has variable refreshrate support in the standard. That's what AMD is trying to use with FreeSync.
HDMI supports audio too, but still DP is currently the best format.
I was comparing DP to DVI. We all know HDMI supports audio.
I was comparing DP to DVI. We all know HDMI supports audio.
Ah, right, sorry then.
"You're receiving this email because your Oculus Order #HP-0395*** is about to ship." Ordered really late on Mar 21st, I know a few of you are ahead of me.
aaaaaaaaand it's shipped. Delivery on Thursday. UPS app is beautiful in telling me about it before Oculus did.
Elite's making me wish I had a Rift, but I'll hold off. No need to jump the gun here. Game's immersive enough as it is.
