something worth noting
Lastly, NVIDIA’s fourth and final latency optimization for VR Direct is VR SLI. And this feature is simple enough: rather than using alternate frame rendering (AFR) to render both eyes at once on one GPU, split up the workload such that each GPU is working on each eye simultaneously. AFR, though highly compatible with traditional monoscopic rendering, introduces additional latency that would be undesirable for VR. By rendering each eye separately on each GPU, NVIDIA is able to apply the performance benefits of SLI to VR without creating additional latency. Given the very high performance and low latencies required for VR, it’s currently expected that most high-end games supporting VR headsets will need SLI to achieve their necessary performance, so being able to use SLI without a latency penalty will be an important part of making VR gaming commercially viable.
so basically get two 970/60s instead of one 980
hm, nightly builds doesn't sound too stable, is it worth bothering with?
In my experience, nightly builds are the most stable, especially when the dev uploads the nightlies every few days after they have been tested and worked on
War Thunder has a simulation mode. Haven't played it but it looks quite in-depth with your controls.
War Thunder is a very accessible lite sim. DCS is a full on hardcore study sim for planes like A-10C and MiG-21, and a survey sim for planes like the F-15C, Su-27, and MiG-29. DCS is in a whole other league than War Thunder that requires you to study manuals if you want to become competent in it.
It disables ALL the flight assists and HUDs, though, so I hope you can read WWII-era navigational instrumentation.
Luckily the game's rather forgiving and WW2 cockpits were rather simple. It's not even close to DCS' difficulty.
so it's Oculus Connect tomorrow! we might even see CV1 details and even Oculus' input solution stuff, along with awesome VR talks and the like
I still want an oculus event held entirely in an oculus
like they could probably greenscreen a video of presenters onto a stage as flat cutouts and it'd look awesome
even better, working out how to do that with 3D camera rigs to actually make cut-outs with depth to them, essentially giving us hologram broadcasts akin to that crazy hatsune miku stage performance stuff
Ordered a 980 off newegg. I think they're all sold out now. Some brands were sold out while I was shopping.
I am ready.
[editline]19th September 2014[/editline]
lol imagine if they had the conference like dai said but using riftmax
imagine how disappointed everyone would be
Still no Oculus Rift testing today :(
The professor had to leave it in his studio so the other members could work on something.
Hoping for monday....
Will nVidia go into the gtx 10xx series now, or will there be some new nomenclature like when the series that the xxxx gtx was in ended?
Also, that confusing as fuck nomenclature.
We go from graphics cards that were denoted by "xxxx GTX" to newer cards being called "GTX xxx ", x = number
Or I might be misinformed about the entire nomenclature. Can someone give me a hand here?
Because the last nVidia card I had was from 2006-7 and it was a 8800 gtx.

Great to see the 3D painting concept become reality.
Now I know what I'll be doing when I get CV

I thought the video was called titbrush and was thoroughly disappointed.
it (might) be happening
Oculus‘ headset lets you look around virtual reality but requires integrations with unofficial controllers to move an avatar, fire weapons, or input other commands. But at tomorrow’s Oculus Connect virtual reality conference, sources say Oculus is expected to unveil an official controller or controller industry standard to make it easier for developers to build more complex games. Several developers have been placed under NDA regarding the conference’s big news, though sources could not confirm details. However, four sources told TechCrunch that a gamepad is what’s being whispered around the Los Angeles VR community.
Oculus Rift DK1 firmware and schematics now free for everyone: https://github.com/OculusVR/RiftDK1
One hour, 20 minutes until the livestream from Oculus Connect starts: http://www.twitch.tv/oculus
I'm really excited to hopefully hear something about a controller and what they've got planed for CV1!
Keynote just started. Jump in before the big announcements drop :P
wow that burn
someone send notch to the burn ward
Shots fired at notch.
that sick notch burn
I quite like this guy. He has a chill demeanour.
In that picture Mark Zuckerberg looked small next to Palmer.
"You need at least 1k by 1k"
So is cv1 confirmed for 2k+ and not 1080/1440?

It's already pretty much confirmed to be 1440p. 1K by 1K is just easier to say.
Prototype "Crescent Bay" not CV
New prototype!
[editline]20th September 2014[/editline]
Are those headphones?
a massive leap from DK2
i sense a lot of buyers remorse
360 degree tracking!
[editline]20th September 2014[/editline]
Much lighter than DK2.
[editline]20th September 2014[/editline]
Onboard audio is optional so you can still roll your fancy audiophile tech if you want.

It's not a public dev kit. Like Crystal Cove that was shown half a year before DK2.
He also mentioned higher resolution
He also mentioned higher resolution
Probably 1440p / 90hz.
360 degree tracking!

Nice, that's one of the main things I was missing in this. Did they get rid of the LEDs?
