I just hope this turns into the new Carmack QuakeCon talk we won't get now. So far, so good.
People trying the Crescent Bay are saying it has higher resolution than GearVR, possibly even a 4K panel. Also higher FoV than the DK2. They've also increased/improved the positional tracking camera to cover pretty much the whole room rather than a small cone in front of it.
I'm LEARNING SO MUCH.

Need to cool my brain.
I don't know, but I think I'd prefer to have audio not included with the OR. It'd help keeping the cost of the OR lower, and some people prefer some kind of headsets.
I couldn't play anything without my Sony MDR V6s.
Though it would be cool if The Rift had some audio software that fakes 7.1 surround with stereo headphones. I have a Razer app that does that and it's amazing. I'm sure it could be done better though.

it would be nice if they had talked about it

I assume it's because they want to make use of headphones standard with VR. That's why they acquired http://realspace3daudio.com/.

Headphones seem like they could reduce immersion. Speakers, especially surround, seem like they would be better

I think you have it the wrong way around. The advantage of headphones is that it's always known where the sound source is for the user, so you can simulate the audio environment with high accuracy.

7.1 headphones.
if they build in a nice sound driver and let you plug your own stuff into it, that'd be perfect

Oh yeah I'm dumb. As you turn you head the audio could be adjusted and get surround that way. Why does there need to be special hardware for this?
Derp
7.1 headphones.
Even stereo headphones are enough. It's all about the software simulation.
7.1 headphones.
Are just faking 7.1 afaik. Like I said I'm dumb and 2 channel would work fine with headphones
Will I able to resee this stream later? I missed whole part of carmacks talk.

It's not special hardware (I believe), Oculus is just including a simple headset from the get-go so that you always have one available.

They'll upload everything to Youtube.

Twitch has muted a lot of the stream, especially Carmack's talk.

No please noo this cant be happening I was waiting for carmack noo.
Rumours that Crescent Bay prototype might have a 4K display, since the resolution seems higher than that of GearVR demos.

Razer do make a legit 7.1 headset but it's just a gimmick.
Carmack finally sat down. We're at the halfway point :v:
eventually

They just ran him off the stage before everyone died of starvation.
My brain has certainly swollen about 5~10% here.
Someone couldn't handle it

Here's the schedule again, for those that missed it:

In half an hour we're getting a panel with Luckey, Carmack, Abrash and Binstock.

So apparently they're not actually $10 headphones :v:
If your headphones don't look like beats from dr.dre someone is going to complain.

I can't wait for the sennheiser commercial sequel where they partner with oculus and massage eyeballs
I wonder how many "premium" headphones actually have shitty little $10 drivers if you open em up. I'm sure there's quite a few I just haven't looked into it.
Next talk starting any second now.
