There hasn't been a single graphics card generation where the second-to-last performing card wasn't the better one price/performance wise :P
I'd say the 8 series is when that started. An 8800GT the card to have, while the 7800GT wasn't nearly as much of a perfromer as the 7800GTX.
8800GT was definitely the first real workhorse performance card, yeah still loved my 8800GTX <3
8800GT was definitely the first real workhorse performance card, yeah still loved my 8800GTX <3
I still have my first 8800GTX, working order too. I've had to reflow the solder twice on it though.
I have a joystick. Should I buy Elite: Dangerous at its current state?
I have a joystick. Should I buy Elite: Dangerous at its current state?
I bought a hotas setup for E:D before I even had the game. Im having alot of fun with it. And beta 2 is coming on tuesday which is going to be a huge improvement in terms of content and optimizations. They are going to wipe ur ship/money on beta 2 so if you buy now just saying.
I just put in my order! [sp]for google cardboard[/sp] I wonder if there's a way to emulate Rift functionality with what they give you + a webcam or something.

The immersion is great.

Heard it got quite optimized for DK2 aswel and your rift camera should work without fiddiling anymore. Cant wait for mine to arrive!

Took a while before I got everything to work properly, but so worth it.
I really, really want a DK2, but I can't justify it right now. I don't have a card that can support it, and it's not where it needs to be yet.
$75 for beta access though Fuck that
$75 for beta access though Fuck that
Uh, where are you getting your information? https://store.zaonce.net/elite-dangerous-cat/elite-dangerous.html?_ga=1.39236131.1054971122.1411068893 €40 = $50 [editline]29th September 2014[/editline] Oh wait, that's the pre-order. I guess I did pay 75 bucks. Oh well v:v:v
Remember when games cost less before they came out?
-snip wrong thread i thought this was for elite-
Remember when games cost less before they came out?
I guess the way they rationalize the price tag is that, if the price is higher, the people playing are going to be more involved and more likely to help with the testing. I can't say if that's what's actually happening, though.
Remember when games cost less before they came out?
I remember being blissfully ignorant of game release dates and 30-50$ got me a pile of games.
I guess the way they rationalize the price tag is that, if the price is higher, the people playing are going to be more involved and more likely to help with the testing. I can't say if that's what's actually happening, though.
And yet if they lower the price they'll get more people to test it for them. Rather they'll get more people to pay them to do work for them. Games used to be cheaper before they came out because it was a nice way of saying thanks. Even then you were still paying the developer to help them with free QA. But now games cost more because "we need funding (lol we don't)" and you get "perks (but don't worry we have a cash shop too!)"
Remember when games cost less before they came out?
It might just be me, but I'm pretty happy with what I got, even if I've got a lot to learn. :v: Just flying around in space is amazing on its own. Like, I was looking down through the bit where your nose is on the Oculus and I could see my torso, and then I looked back in the rift and it fucking merged perfectly, so I looked around a bit more and the way my hand was positioned on the joystick merged perfectly with how the arm was aligned in game. Basically they pulled off the whole "first-person-view-with-a-body" thing absolutely perfectly and I love it.

I just sort of rationalize it because most new games for me are $65, and I usually spend at least $10 on DLC the first day. It all comes out about the same.
But now games cost more because "we need funding (lol we don't)" and you get "perks (but don't worry we have a cash shop too!)"
I thought it was to discourage so many people from buying during the early phases and whining that the game is buggy or incomplete.
I thought it was to discourage so many people from buying during the early phases and whining that the game is buggy or incomplete.
Basically, this. Imagine if Rust was $80 instead of $19.99 right now. Once postal banned all the key beggars, it'd be way more peaceful in that subforum (until more key beggars showed up). I'm totally going to have to upgrade to a better graphics card when CV1 comes out, but I'm not worrying about it too hard until I'm actually looking at getting a Rift shipped to my house. Until then I'm content to have my face pressed against the window watching all you cool kids fuck around with them.
that's exactly it, it's a beta paywall to prevent your servers getting eaten to shit by curious freeloaders all the time. Rust for example had ridiculous buy-in prices to start out because it was an unbelievably hot topic among youtube LPers and their armada of fans. EVERYBODY wanted in because they felt it was cheap enough to warrant a try, and as a developer with small test servers who wants proper feedback, you don't want queues to get into your servers because there's a bunch of children aimlessly dawdling around. It's not finished content meant to be experienced as a full game, you have to understand that your money is there as support and your presence is as an alpha/beta tester who will invest some time and thought into the product instead of taking up space and whining on youtube that it doesn't feel complete yet. We still get those types in everything, but imagine if access was $20 this whole time [editline]e[/editline] like hybrid says below me, the business model doesn't make sense in the end, especially if the cheaper price secures the full release of the game. I remember there being a few games that did that, though all that comes to mind right now is minecraft selling beta passes with lifetime updates for $10 instead of the game's release price of $20
Remember when games cost less before they came out?
Yeah i remember not being able to make any sense of that business model
Back this guys. http://kck.st/1ywgFz2
Remember when games cost less before they came out?
That's increasingly happening right now and it's a very bad thing to pressure customers into buying games without ANY confirmation if they even work as advertised.
Back this guys. http://kck.st/1ywgFz2
Looks like it significantly increases eye to lens distance.
Looks like it significantly increases eye to lens distance.
probably, but if you're like me, having the distance at its closest makes my eyelashes drag all over them and it's hellishly uncomfortable.
I'm glad someone is thinking about hygiene. People with sensitive skin might not want to try VR because of the potential skin irritation or flareups it might cause.
also at all the paywall crap they don't care about that. all they would have to do is put a disclaimer saying its not final and if you don't read it you're an idiot. its just a way of increasing the dollars spend per consumer. early stage f2p games are the worst offenders of this with all their "founder package" crap. $150 for alpha access woo!
