So you lock yourself out of any demo and feature that's build on a newer SDK? Doesn't sound very reasonable. 0.4.3 drastically improved the time warp latency for example. It's all experimental software of course, but that's what you signed up for! [editline]28th October 2014[/editline] New runtime install rolls right over the old one, you don't have to uninstall it manually.
There's not really been much that's caught my eye that I can't play with the old SDK, and the 0.4.3 adds a bug that causes a massive vignetting effect, so no thanks

Put my uncle in LFS when he happened to visit, ended up crashing in a wall with an F1 car and his body jolted really hard from the sudden stop.
Put my uncle in LFS when he happened to visit, ended up crashing in a wall with an F1 car and his body jolted really hard from the sudden stop.
mmmm, nothing like experiencing the feeling where you fall in a dream, and just as you're about to hit the ground you wake up with a jolt
has anyone tried Assetto Corsa with the rift? i hear the dk2 integration is quite decent
For Halloween I'm setting up my DK2 at work again and I'll let more kids try out Alien (and maybe even Penumbra if I can get it working). Should be fun.
has anyone tried Assetto Corsa with the rift? i hear the dk2 integration is quite decent
Absolutely, It's great. It's very immersive and looks good as hell, I like it a lot.
has anyone tried Assetto Corsa with the rift? i hear the dk2 integration is quite decent
I actaully recommend Project Cars but thats not released yet for most of plublic. What I do know they were already on latest oculus SDK within days. It feels so much better. And the graphics are just stunning as hell in DK2. I got Assetto Corsa aswel but im finding the game rather crappy and short on content. And it just feels weird in the rift maybe ive played to much project cars to even appreciate it thought. I never liked asseto corsa on a monitor to begin with either the laser scanned graphics or whatever they using it feels so weird and wrong to me. Where Project Cars really shines in with its dynamic weather system which u can choose as you wish there is nothing more immersive than driving along a cliff road side when its raining hard and in dark barely seeing anything but lamp poles and lighted up buildings and the road sighes that light up as your headlights shine on them and thunder storming over you with your windscreen wipers on fast mode yes they even have stances for the wipers. And this all on medium settings where it looks 100x times better than asseto corsa.

Assetto Corsa looks better graphically tho but it can judder and it's only partially implemented (the menus etc are not Rifted)

All the developer sessions from Oculus Connect are up on the YT channel:
Got to try the rift earlier for the first time. I tried the DK2 first, but something was broken and the right eye lens was orientated like 90 degrees to the right and the head tracking was broken... so the guy restarted HL2 and I tried it again and it worked great. I could clearly see the pixels and the low resolution (might have been the laptop it was running on, it was apparently 1080p but the settings weren't the highest because the laptop struggled to run it), but I still definitely got the sense of depth and presence so that was cool. Probably gonna get the CV1 when it comes out.

You're basically looking directly into a phone screen with a magnifying glass. They finally have a prototype screen that has almost no screen door effect, which is fantastic. As for performance, technically speaking it's pushing out 1080p to both eyes, effectively doubling the work that your GPU has to do. That's a total resolution of 3840x2160, and Oculus are looking to push that total number even higher to 5120x2880. You'll need one hell of a GPU to make it possible to play pretty much any game other than simple tech demos when the CV1 hits. Unless, by then, the software and games made for it have enough optimization so even a mid/high-end PC can handle it.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/uwLMfjb.jpg[/t] delicious new DK2 however only the config demo runs smoothly; others all suffer sub-60 FPS laptop running GTX660M when I play demos that display on the rift and the laptop screen both, the rift lags while the laptop is buttery smooth. is that normal? I'm not suffering the infamous Optimus issue; the asus g75 was spared that "feature", and like I said, the config demo runs great. Would using my laptop's displayport help any? Any tips?

Any tips?
Go into your NVIDIA control panel and change your refresh rate to 75hz. It will bump your resolution down but your primary display will run in 75hz. This is extremely important if you're using the DK2 in Extended Mode, as it will lock to whatever the refresh rate of your primary display is. If you can't set your primary to 75hz, set the DK2 as your primary display and just deal with the cumbersome navigation issues. If that doesn't help, then you're likely experiencing commonplace issues with the software available for the DK2. Do frames seem to "lag" behind when you turn your head in these other demos? That's called judder. It's not the same thing as typical frame lag, as it's mostly dependent on how the DK2 integration and support was developed. Setting my primary display to 75hz dramatically reduces judder in most demos and games, but there are some rare exceptions where there's just poor programming and optimization. [editline]29th October 2014[/editline] Just got done with Titans of Space. That was pretty awesome. It'd be great if it could be made-up with much higher resolution textures and fancy effects. I'd love to be able to fly through a small portion of the kuiper belt with UE4 tier shaders.

Any fix for that? Is direct mode worse for FPS? Just worse for my scenario? Judder sounds right, but I do not get this judder when my FPS is at 75. This judder is present even in Oculus's own Tuscany demo, when FPS is poor (which is at most parts of it).

To fix the issue of half the screen showing up on your DK2 and the other half on your primary display, when you launch the game, put it in Windowed mode and hold down the Windows Key + Shift and press the Left or Right arrow key (respective to the logical direction of your Rift display in your multi-monitor settings). From there, push the Windows Key + Up to put it in fullscreen. I know it's tedious, but like I said, a majority of these issues are not DK2 specific, it's because of how the demos and games are developed.
Is my refresh rate on the rift at 75 in direct mode?
Is my refresh rate on the rift at 75 in direct mode?
I haven't actually confirmed this, but from what I've seen it is. Direct Mode just allows demos and games to directly access and display on the HMD, so theoretically it should display with 75hz. But, as I said, most demos and games don't seem to operate in Direct Mode. You need the DK2 in Extended, and from there you can launch it using the Direct_To_Rift exe. I know it sounds backwards but that seems to do the trick 9 times out of 10. Also, it makes sense you would feel no judder at 75fps, as the DK2 runs at 75hz (meaning it needs at least 75fps to function properly). Any less and the screen attempts to re-construct images faster than it's receiving them, creating judder. Think of it like the DK2's equivalent of screen tearing.

When wearing the rift I see the image of both eyes, on each eye. Like looking at a monitor showing a rift display. That, or some kind of malfunctioning image warp. I don't know. But it looks the same as when a monitor shows a rift video.

Under your screen resolution, make sure it's set to "Extend these displays", not duplicate.
It was on extend. The image would not show on the laptop, only on the rift, and dual-imaged.
Has anyone here played with the Leap Motion + Rift? How well does it work? Could it bring the Leap into the VR mainstream?
PCar's physics are a bit rubbish though.
yeah, i have tried to come back to pCars but the driving physics are a lot less engaging than ACs. also, the graphics are overrated in pCars
Is it normal for a demo to run buttery smooth on the automatic PC screen mirror, yet be low-frame (30-60) on the Rift? [editline]30th October 2014[/editline] (where both are playing at the same time)
Aw shit, there was a rift here at a convention, but I can't stand queues so I had to skip it. The game demoed looked pretty lame.
Just got a DK2, What are some of the best demo's?
Just got a DK2, What are some of the best demo's?
Titans of Space is pretty boss
I heard there was a p cool bioshock infinite demo
