Looking into buying a new computer. What hardware should I go for? The GTX 970 sounds like a great deal. Any other really important factors? Quad i7 and a GTX 970 card should put me in a good place, right? [editline]30th October 2014[/editline] http://www.vrealities.com/
970 has the best money/perfomance ratio on the market atm so it's a p good deal - I'd wait for the newer 16-20nm maxwell cards coming in 2015 though for a really noticeable performance leap. The current 970 likely isn't powerful enough to "proof" for the CV1.
Is it normal for a demo to run buttery smooth on the automatic PC screen mirror, yet be low-frame (30-60) on the Rift? [editline]30th October 2014[/editline] (where both are playing at the same time)
If you're sure it's a low frame rate, I have no idea. To me, it sounds like your rift could be synced down to a lower refresh rate of your main screen. Do you have the same issue when you make the rift your primary display? I heard of some launcher utility that will automatically change the display settings and rift device settings to what you want when launching stuff, so you don't have to fiddle with it every time. I forgot what it was called, but it's probably better than what I do now, which is making a shortcut named something like "RUN - EXTENDED - GAMEPAD - R TO RESET" in every demo folder. It's a lot of stuff to remember.

970 now, 970 SLI at CV if you don't have enough power then (you will have enough power)
There is no setting it to the primary display. When using direct mode, windows doesn't consider it a display, in the settings. Seems like direct mode isn't working for me
Seems like direct mode isn't working for me
Direct mode rarely works.
Direct mode rarely works.
Ah so it's not just me. Anyone know if Asseta Corsa is any good with DK2? pCars feels too slugisch for me with the stuttering. But I only have the Asseta corsa demo and that is on version 1 (steam release). And I can't get it to work with dk2
Switch it to Extended Mode. Right click on your desktop, go to screen resolution, click on the display for your rift, and select "make this my primary display".
Like I keep saying, extended mode doesn't work for me.
Like I keep saying, extended mode doesn't work for me.
What happens when you switch from direct to extended? A black screen? Try restarting your computer.
No, both eye views show both eyes. The scene appears four times, instead of two. If I close one eye, I still see both images, side by side. [editline]30th October 2014[/editline] Can't find anything on google.
yeah, i have tried to come back to pCars but the driving physics are a lot less engaging than ACs. also, the graphics are overrated in pCars
Thats beceuse Assetto was near and is complete build and has extremely good FBB feeling. You have yet to feel anything from pCars beceuse they are working on their FBB right now. Its alot better than it was 2 weeks ago it will improve and there is a reason they also delayed. Im not getting my hopes up im enjoying it so much with rift or not. Theres plently of road cars aswel.
Is it just me or did the latest E:D update kinda fuck up the Rift? I'm getting only 60hz full persistence now and the graphical quality seems lower.
What's a good steering wheel controller that's under $70?
The Windlands Indiegogo campaign is ending soon, and they're pretty much on top of their NPC stretch goal: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/windlands Also they set up a Greenlight page, give it a vote here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=333456349
What's a good steering wheel controller that's under $70?
a used driving force GT [editline]31st October 2014[/editline] save up a little more and get a good condition one
I just found out about pseudoscopes and hyperscopes, and I was wondering if it is possible to do something like that with the rift, does the SDK allow it? a pseudoscope switches the left eye image with the right eye image and vice versa. a hyperscope takes your left and right image and skews them away from each other, if for example your eyes are 65mm apart, a hyperscope will allow you to see the world if they were 415mm apart. Is there a value that you can tweak, that moves the cameras closer, or further apart? And can you set that value to a negative? With your eyes further apart, your depth perception would be much greater. With your eyes switched, your depth perception is reversed, if you look at a tree for example, it would look like it was inside out. I just thought it could be a funny experiment.
What better way to kick it off than some Bioshock VR porn. Has anyone tried Bioshock Infinite on the rift with the 3rd party software stuff?
Has anyone tried Bioshock Infinite on the rift with the 3rd party software stuff?
I haven't, but Skyrim and a couple of UI mods + VorpX is amazing.
DK2 + Alien : Isolation + Crawling in the vents = [sp]nope[/sp] amazing
'pseudoscope' reversed eye 3D is a headache in most situations. A lot of people don't understand which eye goes where, and will do cross-eye to view rift videos and say "oh yeah it totally gives a 3D effect!" and it really confuses me how they don't realize it's a complete garbage situation
Also I think my judder issues I've been having is somehow the rift's refresh rate was 60. I played titans of space again with the rift in extended as my secondary monitor and its refresh rate was 75 hz. Or at least I think it was 60 hz last time... I don't 100% remember. Either way no more weird jitter! I want to swap the lenses out though because outside of the exact center of the lens there is a ton of distortion and its really noticeable. How do I take the old ones out? Or am I trying to take them out correctly but they are as tight as a salsa jar?
It's weird how I get periods of hype and lack of hype for the Rift, in which periods of hype I want to straight up buy the Dev Kit version, even if I develop very little for the rift, and "anti-hype" periods where I just want to wait for the CV. I hope when the CV comes out, it can be used to develop rift games too. Has this been confirmed or denied?

[editline]31st October 2014[/editline] Also, that distortion is going to be present no matter A or B. It's a property of aspherical lenses. The CV1 isn't going to have aspherical lenses, so the distortion should be very minimal if not gone. When a new console comes out, development for games that use it don't immediately halt. I'd imagine that Oculus would continue to allow access to the SDK, even for those who haven't purchased a devkit. There's no good excuse to keep it closed off after the CV1 launches.
making the sdk private / paid or whatever would be a death sentence for oculus AAA studios still aren't interesting in developing titles designed for rift. And the thing that is going to sell the rift is the software
I imagine it's mostly because not a lot of people currently have a rift since it technically hasn't been released yet to consumers
