The whole purpose of the devkits is to give developers the opportunity to build games or technology around it, before the CV1 hits. And that's exactly what's happening. It's just a slippery slope right now since no big AAA developer knows just how popular the technology will be when it becomes consumer-ready. For all we know, it could just be something that fills a very specific niche market. I honestly don't foresee VR becoming a mainstream thing for a few more years.

You and everyone else. Oculus will focus on gaming for the foreseeable future. Zuckerberg said he expects to sell over 100 million Rifts, but not until it's a few cycles in. There's good hope that it will become mainstream in time. Gaming is just the ideal place for this tech to grow and challenge itself.
making the sdk private / paid or whatever would be a death sentence for oculus
AAA studios still aren't interesting in developing titles designed for rift. And the thing that is going to sell the rift is the software
Would be a great way to piss off Carmack
So I played with the DK2 last night (it came on Halloween!). I tried a few demos, but Titans of Space and the Kon Tiki demo crashed on startup. Only the config utility desk demo, the Tuscany demo, and the Battle of Endor demos worked. The Battle of Endor is fucking awesome though.

Tried switching between Extended mode / Direct mode? Direct mode is a bit crashy at the moment (seems they already diagnosed a registry problem with Intel GPUs). Some Unity demos can be 'fixed' by forcing them to run in DX11 (-force-d3d11 command param).
Yeah direct mode crashes for me too. Try extended when it doesn't work.
I think I tried that last night, but I'm not sure I set it up correctly. I'll try again today. Thanks!

It's not d3d11, it's d3d9

Haven't personally seen any demos that were only fixed by running them in DX9. But really, all sorts of issues pop up at the moment and fixes seem to vary per demo, per SDK version, per OS, etc.
I'm really dissapointed in the worse fov, the dk1 was amazing in that aspect. I keep feeling like i'm watching through binoculairs. But then again it was because the note screen was the best they could get.
In other news, Being in one of those space suits in alien isolation is a bizar experience, it feels extremely real. I advise everyone to try it out!
Also thanks for mentioning the endor demo, I hadn't tried it before! It was amazing.
We really need a serious star wars rift game

I wouldn't be surprised if BF3 support is patched in at some point.
Are there any BSG games for the rift?

Okay, so I was running in direct mode. That made the demos crash on startup, but switching to extended mode put the Rift's screen on the main monitor, leaving the Rift screen black (although the blue light was on).
However, the demos themselves seem to be working just fine in extended mode. It was just sending the Rift's feed to a window on the monitor instead of the Rift.
Restart your computer after switching to extended.

When switching to extended, check your Windows monitor configuration. There's a few things to look out for: (1) is your Rift display still rotated (it is by default)? If so, use your Nvidia / AMD control panel to rotate the display to the normal orientation. (2) try moving the Rift display to the right or the left of your other monitors in the Windows monitor config. Some demos seemed to 'detect' the Rift by only moving themselves to the left-most monitor, others to the right-most (3) final resort: make the Rift the main display, then fire up demo.
Restart your computer after switching to extended.
Shouldn't be needed? I never did.
Don't switch while the game is running.
Just turn off the rift, set it to extended, turn it on, then start the demo
If it's the wrong monitor then alt enter, drag to rift, alt enter
edit: I could have sworn I've gotten this full screen as secondary monitor but it doesn't work now. And titans of space seems to be 60 hz again...
wtf did I do to make it 75??
Does anyone have any idea what reason my monitor randomly goes distorted after rift use its hard to explain its like the text is double on my screen and hard to read also bit blurry. Kind of like 3D and the only way to get rid of it is to restart my pc, If put my monitor into extended to see if its same on other screen it keeps black and receives no signal. And for some reason my pc has changed it settings to 16bit colours after restart and id have to change it back. Thing is ive had this before I had my rift now I just got it alot more. I think ever since my new monitor its a 3D 144hz one yet ive never enabled 3D settings. I bought this monitor so I could run it at 75hz to avoid problems with DK2. over my IPS 60hz im starting to think my monitor is fucked.
Ive updated my gpu drivers, reinstalled a different gpu bios, updated my mobo bios replugging monitor cables and stuff. Even reverted to older sdk from rift same problem. This is not always but it just feels like it happends more and more. Maybe i'll have to use my IPS panel as my main forawhile. Besides that im kind of running out of ideas either my windows is fucked or my monitor.
i think i got it fixed... not sure... sorry for enoyyance. took me goodwhile thought.
hey guys im bumping this for emergency.

Enjoy for those who are intrested in a 10 euro cinnema app! Ive bought it myself thought be quick it'll prolly be removed soon. this isnt warez right beceuse the developer does send open download links..

Cineveo, oculus share is giving warez away themselves apperently.

I wonder if anyone will ever release a virtual tourism program for the Rift (that isn't sponsored by Marriott.)
I'd love to be able to throw on a Rift and take a walk around the City of Arts and Sciences or the Louvre. If we're aiming for presence, that sort of thing should come pretty naturally after, right?

Ordered all these parts a few hours ago, except for the 2TB hard drive (I'm reusing an old one).
I wanted this particular model of GTX 970. It went out of stock within an hour after my ordering.

So, what are the odds we see some GTX 9XX compact cards? I'd love to throw one in my hackintosh and turn that into a dedicated VR machine, but it's a tiny case.
EDIT: Never mind, it's already happened. I guess I know what I'm buying for Christmas.
My work has a small convention this weekend and they have 2 dk2's.

If you've got two, I guess you could do Couch Knights.

New Retro Arcade is brilliant.
Running just fine in direct mode, 75 fps for me.
It has Bubble Bobble. I love Bubble Bobble.

Just played Mario Bros on the Game Boy in a virtual reality arcade.
The future is now and it's weird as hell.
