What about a second Radeon? Would that tip the scales? It'd be worth buying a second if it meant not having completely wasted my money on this one. This really stinks.
Sounds like a bit of a sunk cost fallacy? Though I'm in a similar position having upgraded to a 770 last year, it runs fine for my 2560x1440 monitor, but can't consistently push 75fps in elite dangerous even on lowest settings in the Rift :\ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escalation_of_commitment
I got the Cardboard VR set from Valve and I don't have a Iphone 5 or the other phones. Is it possible to jury rig a phone display to it and have it work the same way?
Since Volvo's made the VR app available for iOS, I'm thinking I might use the official Cardboard specs to design one for my iPhone 6. It's a pretty standard barrel-warping stereoscopic viewer, right?
Finally got my pack of VR Covers http://vrcover.com/ took a long time to get to me so I forgot about them. They cover up the majority of vent holes from having traces of light come in. Pretty soft too for looking like a pair of jens. I'll have to break them in for know how good for sure.

Wonder about Microsoft's VR tech. This guy did a really poor job of explaining what it actually is.
Is there like a good list of VR demos + games that I can get a link of, I'm just about to get my DK2
Is there like a good list of VR demos + games that I can get a link of, I'm just about to get my DK2
http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/2lvk09/update_unofficial_list_of_dk2_demos_and_resources/ This should satisfy your needs. I recommend good to begin with and my favorites to : newretroarcade titans of space sightline from ashes welcome to oculus star wars battle of endor ethereon windlands ( try getting used to VR a bit before trying this it still makes me feel woozy after 2 months ) dreadhalls
Is there like a good list of VR demos + games that I can get a link of, I'm just about to get my DK2
Don't Let Go is a silly one worth trying, so long as you don't spoil any of it with youtube. Faceted Flight makes the low resolution look good by simplistic style. You fly around in some kind of flight craft, but with awful physics. It is pretty immersive, despite this. From Ashes is an educational but fun demo, detailing the creation of our solar system leading to the evolution of man. Sightline: The Chair is a fantastic demo in which looking away from scenery causes that scenery to change. Play it on the default slow mode, alone. Titans of Space is an informational demo that aims to set the scale of the universe before you... but it just looked like giant circles more than anything else, to me. Welcome to Oculus, on the other hand, has a scene at the end that properly sets some earthly scale. I'd like a demo that starts on a planet surface and then zooms out, though. Welcome to Oculus shows a variety of uses for VR, and makes the low resolution look nice more effectively than any other demo I've tried, in addition to requiring very low system resources. I recommend trying this one first. Storyteller: Fireside Tales, is a simple demo in which you sit on a fireside bench in a cave while an old man reads you Lovecraft. Neat, and one of the few Unreal Engine demos I've tried that are up to date without horrendous judder. Oculus's own Tuscany demo is a good benchmark to determine if you can run Rift games well. It runs at a huge resolution downscaled to the device, for VR reasons. You can always count on this demo to be included and updated with any new Oculus runtime change, on the dev downloads where you download new runtimes. You use this demo to test new changes. Windlands, lastly, is my favorite demo that aims to be a videogame instead of something informational or testing. Simple style makes good use of resolution, but Windlands has an art style all of its own, and is looking to turn into a definite favorite as a launch title (incomplete game, but playable with a completable goal). Highly recommended, and also good to test if your system is up to the task of rendering VR. In some demos, you can check if your computer is churning out 75fps by pressing spacebar, such as the Tuscany demo. Be sure that your rift is refreshing at 75hz, though (google for more info). PS: the Just One Dance (bioshock infinite porn) demo is a good demo. It proves that VR porn isn't a totally silly idea, when it runs smoothly on a good computer. Just sayin' [editline]20th November 2014[/editline]
another list of VR demos
Here's a list combining mine and his: New Retro Arcade Star Wars: Battle of Endor Ethereon Dreadhalls Don't Let Go Faceted Flight From Ashes Sightline: The Chair Titans of Space Welcome to Oculus Storyteller: Fireside Tales Tuscany Windlands *Just One Dance* [editline]20th November 2014[/editline] I was wondering, what was that one racing VR game people kept talking about? I remember a post where someone saw a cheater zoom past and smash into someone going the wrong way. What's the best Cinema demo, with 3D support? Preferably that lets you walk around, and/or has multiplayer. Video-sync multiplayer? All of the rollercoaster demos I've found are really outdated with large judder problems. Any good up to date ones?

But maybe I can awnser some of your questions cinnema no idea? Riftmax but dont think it has 3D support yet. for rollercoaster you should wait for the real game NoLimits2 which is on steam and will get VR support in next coming week. Or you could try Helix which I found out recently to my suprise it was sort of well hidden.
A 770 & a Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz should be fine right guys?
A 770 & a Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz should be fine right guys?
Yes. It all depends on what you're trying to run of course.
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/microsoft-gave-gta-5-boss-a-demo-of-its-mysterious/1100-6423680/ Is there any word on whether GTA V will be modded for oculus? Now that would be fucking cool. I mean the soon to be released PC version of course.
A 770 & a Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz should be fine right guys?
Perfectly fine for the DK2. You should be able to run pretty much all the current demos and games at 75fps save for Elite which can judder in intensive scenes, the newest patch today supposedly fixed it though, still have to check it out
Is there like a good list of VR demos + games that I can get a link of, I'm just about to get my DK2
Any space dogfighting sim is a must-have for this game. I highly recommend Elite: Dangerous.
Thanks guys you've been super helpful.
I really want a good, simple first person shooter that utilizes positional tracking for shooting around corners. As soon as I tried to lean around a corner in hl2 and realized the reticle is locked to rotate around your feet, it was a little disappointing. Anyone have the super hot alpha?
So i just ordered the dk2 yesterday as I've been excited to get one. Well after i purchased it, did some digging only to realize i really need to upgrade my computer first. Oh well, guess I'll have to deal with getting sick for awhile.

It uses one hydra for positional tracking, maybe they've updated it since DK2.
You can shoot around corners in HLVR if you have Hydras.

[editline]21st November 2014[/editline] Oh yeah, I noticed that Elite's use of Direct Mode doesn't work as intended. If the refresh rate of your primary display is 60hz, then the display in the DK2 will be locked to 60hz. I noticed intense judder when using Direct Mode. When I switched to extended, the judder was gone and everything felt substantially smoother.
Playing through Qbeh-1 with the Rift is quite a Zen experience. Even though it's mostly the same blocky geometry, each level creates its own atmosphere through lighting and music. It's not the most comfortable VR game due to instantaneous turning and very tight controls, but it's manageable. Sometimes you just stop to soak in the atmosphere and tune out. I can't wait for VR to mature, it's going to be amazing. This was my favorite part of the Elite Dangerous event. The host looks to get an opinion on how great the Oculus Rift is for Elite Dangerous, but he picks the wrong sharply dressed man. His opinion mirrors what I think about the DK2. Based on what we saw of the Crescent Bay prototype, I think that come CV1, the resolution problem will be sorted out.

Elite: Dangerous looks cool, but I'm wary about it. The early backers = ingame money (huge discounts on ship insurance) is concerning. From what I've read, if you're broke and can't afford the insurance and your ship blows up, you've lost countless hours of gameplay, because your ship is everything. If you're an early backer you get 50% off this insurance. If you back now, you get 25% off insurance. This aspect coupled with DLC restricted ships to fly, and removing singleplayer 'for the experience but we'll add it back if we ever close the company' (for DRM which was also promised to not exist), turns me off of the game. What's next, paying real money for ingame credits? If the DLC ships can be obtained via tons of credits and/or have advantages, that's essentially what this game will be. But I've never played it. Can someone who does play it convince me that this awesome space shooter isn't turning into pay to win garbage?

I know there's paint jobs, but they've always said they wouldn't restrict ships based on DLC.
I'm just sad that Flagship didn't get funded. I want a Rift in future and I was planning on getting that first. Damn.
Upon looking it up myself, you're right. An arbitrary gift of credits on every death (via insurance price cut) is still awful.

I want to be on the same playing field as everyone else, even if that means paying higher premiums. I don't know why they decided to give backers a tangible in-game advantage forever, that's kind of stupid.
They're still working on it on their own, like they did before, but that means it'll take so much longer. Maybe by the time it gets out, I'll have my own rift. Here's hopin'.
