What if this isn't oculus, and some batshit company actually thinks their 3DHead is competition?
After reading the reddit thread on it and seeing all the speculation that this is some prank by OculusVR, I think people are ridiculous if they actually believe that. From what I saw, it seems they're owned by a greek billionaire heir. So some guy who didn't do anything to get rich, invested money in VR before Oculus became a thing, and now his poorly run company is continuing to be poorly run. I honestly just feel bad for the people who work at thing. I mean seriously, how bad would you feel if people thought your work was so bad that it could only be a parody? Not that I feel particularly sorry for any of them at the same time.
In that case, I hope they don't use their billions to spoil the public image of VR.
In that case, I hope they don't use their billions to spoil the public image of VR.
I don't think they can anymore, seeing how Facebook bought up Oculus. Even if they do somehow fuck up the public image, Facebook is just the company to unfuck it. I mean, pretty much EVERYONE knows Facebook, so in the end they'll take their rep over that of some weirdass billionaire with a failed product.

SNIP Scratch that, looks like it's just a stupid man with too much money and Tupac holograms.
When is TF2 coming to DK? I've been waiting since August
I swear I've seen some oculus TF2 videos. [editline]26th November 2014[/editline]
The best part about that is that clicking the link that supposedly leads to the 3DHead page gives you a 404. http://www.anakando.com/3dhead/
it's back
I swear I've seen some oculus TF2 videos. [editline]26th November 2014[/editline] it's back
Well DK1 supports TF2, DK2 doesn't currently.
TF2 does have Oculus Rift support: https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Oculus_Rift_User_Guide
DK2 support, shit, I'll have to try it.
What the hell are they showing on the tablet at the end? They press the icon that opens apps and widgets and they go "PHWOOAAAH" Are there so many apps? :v:
I swear I've seen that part in something else, but I don't remember what. Basically stolen footage of a different product.
Is VorpX worth it? I'm thinking of buying it...
Is VorpX worth it? I'm thinking of buying it...
I'd say it depends on how badly you wanna play games that doesn't natively support the rift and if you don't mind tweaking things around a good bit to get things to work.
I tried vireio (free) with Dishonored and it simply crashes. I don't expect there to be any big difference between the two, besides the list of supported games (especially considering that vireio is open source). Considering that vorpx has bottom-of-the-template-barrel web design with a broken video upload, I don't think they're doing anything special. Paid doesn't mean better, and I don't think you'll get any decent tech support when a game on the list refuses to work. Don't do it; it sets off my scam bells.
This guy completes the Windlands demo in 3:33.
http://www.roadtovr.com/vr-chat-helps-deliver-first-virtual-university-lecture/ University hosts a successful lecture in VR. dis the future
How is that better than a standard video lecture?
How is that better than a standard video lecture?
Twenty-two seconds. That's all you had to watch.
Their points are silly though. "You can't be distracted" when VR itself is a distraction. And you can't take notes at all.
Their points are silly though. "You can't be distracted" when VR itself is a distraction. And you can't take notes at all.
Well your prof. has a better chance of catching you not paying attention due to VR related things and telling you to behave. lol
Their points are silly though. "You can't be distracted" when VR itself is a distraction. And you can't take notes at all.
I don't know about you but being locked into a classroom without internet windows or your phone to check, all in a crazy new format using devkits for oculus for the first time as students, sounds like something most kids would pay attention to
If its a recorded lecture you can go back and watch parts you weren't paying attention to And grade schools aren't going to use this, online courses / colleges do. Something you have to willingly sign up for. Your fault if you don't pay attention I'm just not seeing this being much better than non vr alternatives VR is great for some things but it isn't needed for fucking everything. Much like canned bread and microwaved roasts.
that's great but the entire course they're in is a lawyer teaching his course on game law. It's a relevant medium and they're exploring the technology, god forbid they do something neat and say it felt more involving than sitting in the same lecture hall they always do listening to the dude from the back of a room
This is what holograms are in the present. Instead of altering our own reality, we say "fuck it" and create a new one.
Saw the Samsung VR thing today. It wasn't that much better than DK2. It's the shitty pentile pixels, Oculus needs to get a screen that doesn't have them. You don't get the proper resolution with them.
PenTile is horrible for VR. it's already bad for smartphones
Put my uncle in LFS when he happened to visit, ended up crashing in a wall with an F1 car and his body jolted really hard from the sudden stop.
Visited his place today and he asked me about the "glasses", apparently his kid was still going on about them a month later (he also tested LFS back then). Said he'd bring his wife to try it out this week. Asked about the requirements and if he was able to use them at his home He was a bit bummed after Í told him that his old Windows XP computer with a Pentium processor and no graphics card couldn't run VR
I fixed the judder I was having in almost every demo. It's really amazing how much of a difference it makes. HL2 went from "hey, neat" to jaw-dropping. People have already talked about the scale of the citadel in the first level, but try the later levels where you actually enter it. It's a whole different experience to see the ~60 foot tall pistons eating away at City 17, and then to crane your neck upwards and just see this black behemoth extend into the clouds. People are sad that they won't be able to run the newest games in VR with an affordable PC, but I'd happily take decade-old graphics in exchange for this experience. EDIT: I also haven't had even the slightest twinge of motion sickness, even with judder and other weird problems. I guess I'm just lucky.
I wonder what kind of VR AAA games will be announced alongside with the CV launch.
