While on a subject of game support, TF2 will be the first to support it it seems. http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/18/valve-hands-on-vr-mode/ http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/18/valve-joe-ludwig-interview/ [editline]18th March 2013[/editline] As in, first game that is released.
Actual teleportation disorientation, that's what I'd like to see! Although it might just feel like that when you try to scroll or move view otherwise but it doesn't move or moves unexpectedly and that doesn't feel neat it just feels bad. That wouldn't be so cool.
I really hope that devs will make this work in an Cockpit/ARMA II sort of style, where mouse aims your gun and the Rift just lets you look around independently of where you're aiming
this is my biggest fear, that everyone follows the gimmick that turning your head/body entirely is how you aim. If anything, make the option toggleable or something to suit different people. 'tank' cockpit style would be far less disorienting when sitting down than head-turning followed by correcting position with the joystick/mouse. Standing up with a dedicated setup would be a different story, but a majority of users probably aren't keen on blindly whipping around their living room
TF2 has been confirmed for the Rift: Joe Ludwig (one of the Valve engineers working on the rift) interview: http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/18/valve-joe-ludwig-interview/
I'm reaaaaaaally tempted to buy the Devkit, but as someone else mentioned previously, I don't think I'll be doing a lot of developing. Anyone know when the consumer version is planned to come out?

Great preview of the dev kit right here. http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/19/oculus-rift-development-kit-hands-on/ Check the vid out. Also regarding the low res of the dev kit, we speculated about this in the last thread, they kinda confirm it:
With the 3D visuals, the wide field of view, and the motion tracking that shows you whatever your head points at, it feels like you’re truly in another world... only you’re looking at that world through a mesh helmet. The reality is that you’re seeing the actual rows of pixels, but your brain fills in some of the blanks.
Some poster gives an example:
Just like when looking out through a REAL window screen, while standing close to the screen. When you stand still, the view has a HORRIBLE screendoor effect (in Real Life)! But when you move a little, the view through the world gets MUCH sharper and more detailed, because your brain is filling in the missing details from previous "frames". Your brain will do EXACTLY the same thing in VR. Just move a little to see a sharper image...
And the good news
Recently at Expand, Nate Mitchell mentioned plans for an improved screen resolution and improved motion tracking (for the consumer rift).
[editline]19th March 2013[/editline] lol
Oculus is quite upfront about the issue, and says the consumer version will almost certainly have a smaller screen, hinting at the recent crop of 5-inch, 1080p cell phones on the market. When I ask if the team literally pulls apart each and every new high-end smartphone to take a look at its screen, I'm greeted by knowing laughter. Later, I find just such a phone on Luckey's desk.
[editline]19th March 2013[/editline] another article http://www.theverge.com/2013/3/19/4122388/can-oculus-rift-save-virtual-reality
What I really want to play on the Rift is Tribes ascend. Shit would be so cash
Well well look what we have here. Some kind of new motion system that measures your muscle's electricity to do its shit. Whatcha think? [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWu9TFJjHaM[/hd] http://getmyo.com/ [editline]20th March 2013[/editline]
How quickly does it detect gestures? Movements can be detected very quickly - sometimes, it even looks like the gesture is recognized before your hand starts moving! This is because the muscles are activated slightly before your fingers actually start moving, and we are able to detect the gesture before that happens!
creepy :v:

Unless you had two of them, that is. But that's kind of pricey.

Some commands seem a bit tiring, like the 'trigger pulling' motion for the game. Could see that being integrated with VR gear like the OR.
[hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohyKSbNRkTs[/hd] 7:16-> Makes me wonder if future HMDs will be like consoles, with the hardware already inside.
7:16-> Makes me wonder if future HMDs will be like consoles, with the hardware already inside.
Long way to go until we get there, and hopefully not soon I'd rather not have proprietary systems shit all over HMDs so soon :v:

A lot of those actions in the video (raising over your head to swap weapons in ME for terrible instance) would require a second unit on the upper arm or even sensors on the shoulder. It would be easy enough to rig up a suit with strategically placed sensors, but price point etc etc
Like Haptic Suits from the "Ready Player One" book, where it not only works as a motion detector, but it also makes you feel pressure too, like if someone touches you, you get to feel it. Would be awesome, if not too sci-fi :v:

First look at Oculus devs playing a racing game with the Rift! I bet they'll show it off at GDC. THAT is what the Rift is amazing for.

ohh, where did you hear that?
Anyone received their t-shirts and other gear from the kickstarter campaign? They said they were going to give them out in November but I haven't heard a word about them.
I got order ID 001563 (kickstarter), I hope I get mine soon. I also hope Valve will remove the $200 limit on the marketplace, becauase I will sell my Oculus TF2 hat to a friend and I already recently sold a courier for $130 so I can't really sell any more items or I will reach the wallet limit. Also ordered a Razer Hydra, I hope it will be good.

Quick question, can the Oculus be used like a wearable monitor? It'll be like having your own private theater while watching movies. Oculus + Senn HD598s = no reason to visit a cinema again.
Quick question, can the Oculus be used like a wearable monitor? It'll be like having your own private theater while watching movies. [editline]21st March 2013[/editline] Actually, a dedicated app wouldn't be bad at all. Media Player Classic VR Theater or something, where you can pick a seat and watch a movie on a screen.
Getting a rift and making a movie theater would be such a waste of the Rift and ruin the quality of the movie. Ill stick to my 1080p monitor or projector for movies.
I wonder if someone will try to make a movie that takes advantage of Rift. Like, the whole movie is just first person view. This is kinda creepy because whenever I think of that, I get reminded of Cyberpunk 2077 thing, where people were addicted to something (I don't quite remember) that allows you to experience someones memory and all the feelings associated with it. Getting there...
