I think the problem with mounting it on the oculus is that the thing was designed with it sitting face-up on a desk in mind, because seeing hands from the palm-side is where you're able to understand the most out of finger positions
You still use it with a focus on palms with the rift. It's just as bad with desk tracking.
This game came out of nowhere with perfect Rift support. If you have the Rift then this is a must buy for you at just 7 euros (25% off atm)

No judders, no issues, every menu is in VR, the support couldn't be better. And the volumetric effects look amazing. Gamepad recommended!

I also bought this its amazing they even let you downsample to 4k resolution from ingame menu. It works flawless is tons of fun to!
I have a leap motion that's been unused for a good while that I need using and was thinking about a 120 hz monitor for a while
but screw all of that
this looks a bajillion times better than any 4k 200hz monitor out there
[editline]25th December 2014[/editline]
also, since I'm getting this, whats the PERFECT type of game/specific game to start this off blindly with?
EX: A scary game, or just hl2/tf2
I saw someone playing alone in the rift (or was it in the dark) and it looked crazy

"Alone" looks cool too

they recently updated it and it's massively been improved
it's a LOT more accurate than it was before but it still has ways to go
the Welcome to Oculus demo is a good introduction, get it on the oculus app market (free, like most)
after that, try Windlands (same download source), because it is a well made game with an actual goal in place, while looking good in the limited resolution
i wouldn't recommend hl2/tf2 or the horror games as a first, because their support isn't as good

Does it support Direct mode? I'll definitely buy it if that's the case. I miss the age where games all had demos. It would be great for testing support. Do you think Steam would refund it if I bought it and found the VR support lacking?
Windlands is pretty hardcore for someone who hasn't got their VR legs yet, I wouldn't recommend it yet
From Ashes is a great starter demo, as is Welcome to Oculus, and the game I linked above is also really amazing with the Rift.

Dunno, never tried, but it works flawlessly in extended

Since you have the Leap Motion you might want to give Weightless a go: http://martinschubert.itch.io/weightless
[editline]26th December 2014[/editline]
You might want to wait until CES 2015 before you order a DK2 since there's always a chance that Oculus will reveal something there on Jan 6th, whether that's a new prototype or the CV1 release date we will have to wait and see.
My mother came to visit, showed her BlazeRush, "Coffee without words" and CineVeo with Dredd playing. BlazeRush had her giggling like mad, the coffee demo she thought was super creepy because of the uncanny valley feeling from the eye contact the woman makes, and CineVeo was "cool"
I let my uncle, nephew, sister, and her boyfriend play Elite with the DK2. They thought it was some of the coolest shit they've ever experienced.
My friend let me borrow his Oculus Rift again, but this time I have it for a few weeks. Unity also now allows Oculus support for the Free version so I added rudimentary OR support to my little space sim project. I had to tweak some things and a few others are still broken because my code assumes only one camera, but it's good enough to show off.
This is just my pet project space sim that I work on for fun. The models and most sounds are from the Freespace 2 Source Code Project so I have something cool to look at while I work.

oh my god don't let that just be a silly project
Stop what you're doing right now, and play this. Everybody wants to drive a giant robot and now you finally can. This is hands down the best Oculus Rift anything I've ever played.

Way more orange than that screenshot shows. Tooooo orange.
Other than that, it is perfect. Thanks for posting it.

I love how it uses position and rotation data to determine what your body should look like, leaning and turning inside the cockpit.
Okay so I don't have a Rift, but I got this as a gag/swap gift for Christmas:

I wasn't expecting too much, but it looked interesting enough. My older brother ended up with it. He spent half an hour whining about how terrible the thing was and how hard it was to put together and that I ruined Christmas. Mostly he was joking but the thing was pretty finicky to put together and felt cheap even for something made out of cardboard. As soon as we got it together though and he dropped his iPhone in he retracted all previous statements. He stood there for like 15 minutes just looking around on a roller coaster app. Every family member (from age 4-70) eventually had a go with it, and even the skeptical no-nonsene Navy vet ended up being like, "Whoa!! Wait? How....this is so cool?"
This experience had just made me even more excited for when actual consumer versions of this stuff starts coming out. Gotta start saving.

have you played anything of elite dangerous or star citizen yet

Tried it, it's a good start but the controls feel weird, like Gmod-physics weird. The guns and cockpit wobble as if they were attached by rubber.

Both of these at the same time wouldn't fill the hole missing that I desire to be filled.

which is what?

yeah, the simulator stuff has been a bit too hard-edge as of late. If anything I would KILL for a modern day Project Sylpheed, barring the early 2000's 3D animu thing they had going on

the tech styling of big ships is still flat out gorgeous, though the cockpit view here really crowds the visuals compared to third person
[editline]e[/editline]
the game's like $3 if you can find it at gamestop nowadays. worth a play
Oh man Project Sylpheed was so cool. Until the Strike Suit games, it was the closest we ever got to a Macross game, just stuck in fighter mode. It had so much energy and missiles and lots of missiles. There were missiles and missile trails everywhere. It was Itano Circus the video game.

one thing I loved in that game was cutting engines and drifting sideways under a big warship so I could lay some heavy fire into subtargets while staying out of reach of its turrets
both elite and citizen have options to disable flight assist/decouple controls and perform similar maneuvers, so I hope down the line they try to bring more focus to assaulting cap ships and the like
so i guess space engine added OR support but when I try it the whole slow down to updating once every few seconds :/
if I enable the OR mode but have the OR off it runs fine.

a reboot seems to have fixed it

CV1 will be released this year! I can finally say that. Atleast in Finland's timezone. Exciting times! CES in 5 days as well!

Was there an announcement? Is it any further narrowed down than that? "This year" is quite a large timespan, and I can't wait...
It's still 2014 for me, so does that mean I can get it now?

There's no way it will come out in 2016 after they received the power of Facebook behind them. 2015 is a no brainer.
