DK2 shipping times are fast now from what I've heard. Like 2 days from order to processing. That said we're counting on CV1 reveal at the next show in March. Well, I am.
all depends on where you live really. in the US, they ship from California. took me about a week to get it, as i live on the east coast.
Is CV1 already the next Rift or will there be a DK3 before that?
CV1 is next, they said there wont be another DK
I wish the CryEngine 3 version of Crysis 1 was released on PC.
Wow, that's a brilliant idea!
But what are the differences between DK2 and CV1?
But what are the differences between DK2 and CV1?
Well the DK2 has a 1080p screen, positional tracking, and directional tracking.
Aaaaaand the CV1 doesn't exist yet. We don't have any specs or anything on it yet.
But what are the differences between DK2 and CV1?
Like Clark says there's no specifics yet, but the CV1 will be lighter, have a sharper display and visuals, full 360 degree tracking, and built in headphones.
That's only the display though, the way Nate was talking about control interfaces makes me wonder if they're going to go through a few phases of control input dev kits before they release the finished display along with a finished input device.
The tentative and not at all confirmed release date for the CV1 is sometime this year.

CV1 prototype shown at GDC (note that Nate said CB isn't the CV1 prototype), input devkit goes on sale. Final CV1 reveal + preorders at E3, releases in Q3 2015 bundled with the finished input (the devs have time between GDC and E3 to fiddle with the input devkit for their games).
Predictionssssss

In the Tested vid it was said that CV1 won't have the built in audio, rather a port for audio on the CV1, or something along those lines. It's so that other people who want to use headphones or their own audio devices can use their devices.

What? It WILL have it's own audio, that's the whole point. However you can probably detach it or something to use your own headset if you want to.
Didn't they say that it would have both those headphones and the audio-out port so the customer has everything they need to start?
woops ninjad

Yeah, the headphones are removable, and they use the audio-out port.
At least, that's the way it works on the current prototypes we've seen.
You mean for noise cancellation? I don't see why else they should.
to talk to people. I have a good desktop microphone, but it's not ideal for a rift since you will be turning your head and stuff

I want them to include a microphone just for the sake of cool effects for FPS games. Imagine if instead of hearing your character's heavy breathing in a horror game, you hear your own, muffled by your space helmet or whatever.
Someone could make a game where if you don't keep yourself quiet, the scary things will hear you.

now THAT, would be neat.
A built in mic is obviously going to be in the CV1, it's very very easy to add/implement. There's no reason for them not to.

If someone makes this, I will play and record it once I get a CV1.
Not that I'm particularly popular or even good at it...

it'll be a low priority, I'd say it definitely might not be, it's not guaranteed by any means, it's never even been mentioned in regards to the Rift afaik
The mic sounds like a great idea, because it creates so much possibilities for new mechanics in games, but the only thing that worries me is that noise cancellation won't work properly enough. For example, while playing Call of Duty or Counter Strike I often get people with a load of background noise, sometimes even so much you can't actually hear them and that is just horrible.
It would definitely have to be dependant on living situation. It might not work so well in a college residence, for example.
I imagine it would be included in games as an option rather than standard.

It's a novel idea, but I'm not sure how well it will work in practice. Mic distance from mouth, background noise etc can ruin someone's game. Not everyone is able to play horror games alone in a dark, quiet room.

disable mic unless the game is no fun without it in which case it isn't a good game
The death of YT horror LP community
Something we need very very much.

Guys you really need to check this UE4 expierence out! The textures may look low res but everything has a very real feel to it. It has a standard fly over expierence but I recommend you definetly try with xbox controller and explore the land. It has more than you might think it has. It really had me in awe.
disable mic unless the game is no fun without it in which case it isn't a good game
Negatively rate me all you want, but a game that relies on one single gimmick to entertain isn't a good game, it's a proof of concept
Negatively rate me all you want, but a game that relies on one single gimmick to entertain isn't a good game, it's a proof of concept
But it isn't about that at all. For example, Arma is a lot more fun if you can play with friends and talk with each other. It's more tactical, but especially, it makes the game more suspenseful.
Or were you specifically talking about the horror game? Because if that's the case, then the mic is more than a gimmick. It's the pillar of that game.
Relying on input methods that deviate from the standard set doesn't make a game bad, silly.
Guitar Hero isn't a bad game, either.
We're talking about a horror game that listens to mic input here. If that feature is the only thing that makes the game worth-while, it's a proof of concept, it shouldn't be considered a full fledged video game.
Imagine if you played the Don't Let Go demo without headphones. Doesn't really become all that great after that. Because it's a proof of concept and its main feature was 3D sound.

Never said either of those things but nice post anyway
Adding a mic has the same meaning as the built-in headphones, it's to make sure everyone has one. The devs can then make stuff like social apps (remember facebook), MMOs, comm systems in whatever games etc without worry. The mic is an integral part of VR when it comes to multiplayer or social games. I can bet CV1 will have it, you'll see.

Such sass :v:
You're right though, I didn't really notice you explicitly stated that it's only bad if it has nothing to offer beside this one feature. That's the key point that caused this misunderstanding.
