I'd rather wait for Dev Kit v2.0 or consumer version that get a current dev kit, considering its going to be outdated once the new dev kit arrives later this year. If I had one on hold right now I'd cancel my order personally and just re-order when Dev Kit 2.0 starts coming out.
When are DK 2.0 meant to be coming out? If I was to do this for college I'd need to order soon so I can receive it quickish. I can't have it like halfway through the year as it would be a hard project for me to do. Also could always sell off the Dev Kit 1.0, they sell for a decent amount on eBay at the moment.
Make a game where you can just view Bullet's GW2 character in 3d. then we can just look at the butt. it'll be awesome?
When Skyrim gets Oculus support you know shit's gonna go down.
Yeah I saw on there site that next batch should be Augest, but I don't know if that means for people who order like now. If I got mine in Augest/September I'd be cool with it. Not too sure what to do, it only costs 275 euro to get it to Ireland. I would buy a consumer one anyway when it's out as they aren't too expensive. For a final year computer science project do you think it would be cool to do something with the rift? I think it would be something unique that the marker would not have experienced before that could get me a good grade.
I'd say if your not in the US, you can still buy a rift and expect it in a reasonable amount of time. I say this because they are apparently sending out the remaining US orders right now., and will move on the international orders next. Further, my guess for the next batch will be europe, as that's a close second to the US's order quantity. But you don't have to wait, you could just come up with the idea and start making it, and then when your OR arrives, implement support.
When did they mention a Dev Kit 2.0? http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/1feqgi/i_had_the_opportunity_to_visit_valve_for_2/ca9kr7n Some guy visited Valve and reports they had a new proto-Rift with positional tracking and "good enough" resolution.
Yes! It was actually an upgraded version. So it not only had Gyration, but it had translation within a small room. So if I moved around, like peaking a corner, it would actually work like that! Supper immersive! O yeah, I also did not get nauseas or seasick, but that might be beacuse it was upgraded with translation. Or maybe I played just for a couple of minutes. Who knows? I need more time with it to figure it out.

How was the resolution on it? Was it still really easy to see individual pixels?
resolution was good enough for me.

Just out of curiosity, where/ what are you studying?
Over in Ireland, Dublin City University, doing computer applications! So I should buy the rift then and try do something with it for the final year project?
Over in Ireland, Dublin City University, doing computer applications! And you don't even know when exactly they're going to be released. Furthermore, presumably you are going to end up buying the consumer version anyways so you aren't saving money. I suppose one major factor in the new version's favor will be the translational head tracking, which will most likely help with motion sickness, as well as just improve the experience. But once again, personally, I'm not in the habit of waiting when I don't know how long I'm going to be waiting for, especially when my needs are time critical.

How (if) will this affect development? Was he still a vital part of the team at the time, or had the assistance from larger companies mostly taken over development? Might he have been most valuable as a speaker, to convince companies to monetarily support the cause? Could the corporate backers feel reasonably worried about this event, and withdraw their support?
I think I'm going to get all the versions of the Oculus up to the second consumer version.

It may sound cynical or cold but the show must go on, regardless of what tragedies befall us.
I don't think Palmer is going to give up on his project that's been his life for the last few years, even though a close friend and business partner died. They kicked the world of VR into the mainstream and it will snowball into something massive.
I don't think Andrew would've wanted them to stop, I think he would've wanted Palmer and the rest to have finished the project, that's what they set out to do. It just sucks he won't be there to see the project be finished and released.
Damn this sucks big time. [editline]1st June 2013[/editline] I checked the Oculus website to see if they already made a statement. After the page loaded the only thing I noticed was the centre banner with "We're hiring!".
That is sad. I'm legitimately sad on their behalf.
They're gonna mourn and head back to business, simple as that, we should do the same. Rest easy in a world of infinite immersion you stallion. [editline]1st June 2013[/editline] Let's take our minds off of this for a moment to get pumped for Nintendo 64 VR.
