I'm going to attend the http://intotherift.com/ event next week in Eindhoven (Netherlands). Anyone else going?
Sounds hot, might go with a couple of friends if they're up for it.
I'm coming to Netherlands.
Aw crap, I live pretty close to there, but I have to work at 6 PM and it ends at 6:30 PM.
I don't like going to the nether regions.
played HL2 for a while and took in the scenery last night, played up til you get knocked out and wake up with alyx standing over you. Sitting up and facing forward, I was faced with her feet, so I pulled a backbend over my chair to get a glimpse of her face and finally the sim sickness hit me, haha also look, fresh devblog post from EVR http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/eve-vr-an-experiment-in-bringing-virtual-reality-to-the-eve-universe/ reminder of what EVR is:
So if the current batch is expected to ship August. I take it that means during August, and not by August? Unfortunate if so.

more from EVR, a video viewable in-rift. might make you sick
Their website has had: New orders are expected to ship August 2013. up for a while.
Their website has had: New orders are expected to ship August 2013. up for a while.
Ah, I misunderstood what you meant by "current batch"; I thought you were talking about the next batch to go out.
So when is the consumer version planned to come out?
So when is the consumer version planned to come out?
Next year.
Next year.
Do we know what month/season?
The consumer one is just higher resolution and more expensive, right? So buying now for a crappier version at lower cost sounds great. If not, well at least it's still time to work on it instead of waiting until next year.
Do we know what month/season?
Q3
I think they're going to be changing more than the resolution.
It can't be too large a departure. I can't see it doing anything more than now apart from doing what it does now, better.
It can't be too large a departure. I can't see it doing anything more than now apart from doing what it does now, better.
Translation instead of just rotation will probably be significant.
They're doing translation with their first public release? Well then.
I can't see it doing anything more than now apart from doing what it does now, better.
Well, obviously. They never said they were going to add new capabilities, they just said they were going to improve the Rift based on feedback and whatnot. Anyway, my point is that the machine does more than have resolution. I predict improvement on several aspects of the Rift, including comfort, sickness-prevention, development tools, co-ordination with other virtual reality equipment, hell, they might even make the head-tracking better--all in addition to big improvement of resolution. This being said...I don't follow the news on current issues with the Rift but I get the gist of it. Regardless, I think the consumer version will definitely be worth the wait. Still, if I had a little more money I'd probably get the Dev Kit too.

I tried this demo this afternoon (the video does no justice to the experience at all, but anyway): Have I ever told you I'm terrified of huge things?
That reminds me of a game called the Polynomial. Anyone ever play it? http://dmytry.com/games/ "The Polynomial is a 3D spaceflight music game with abstract, mathematically generated scenery and models which are set to the music of your choice. You fly around in a very strange universe, shoot the enemies, meet and protect the friends, collect bonuses, fly through wormholes, and so on, all while rocking out to the music. You can play the music supplied with the game or build a playlist of your own songs; you can even use microphone as music source. The music animation is highly configurable with multiple visualization types. If shooting up stuff is not your thing, maybe you'll like using it in editor mode to create unique fractal artwork. Or you can set the difficulty to none and concentrate on all the non-killing action and enjoying the beauty." (Set it to 720p if you can) If they ever add Rift support for this...that might just blow my fucking mind. Especially cause of how much you can control the game (including total removal of HUD and realistic flight controls). Holy shit that would be amazing.
comes with a complimentary pack of Dramamine
Or universal DPI adjustment.
Have they said anything else about the devkit v2 besides that powerpoint slide? As soon as that comes available to order I'm going to do it.
Since your view no longer has to be constrained to where you're aiming, imagine dual wielding.
Difficult. But useful.
As somebody who does not yet have their prototype, what can I do to make things so that when it gets here, I can hit the ground running?
