Literally every new thing I hear about the PS4 makes me want to buy one.

Even if I had to buy a proprietary PS4 version of the Rift, I would be so down for PS4/Rift.
Does this mean all the devs will have to buy a 1080p rift and re-do their work?
Does this mean all the devs will have to buy a 1080p rift and re-do their work?
No. It will just require rendering to a larger buffer. With a 1.714 scale factor that would be 3290 x 2056 for 1080p. It will be tough to get demanding games to run at 60fps but you have the ability to trade performance for quality by going up or down from the given scale factor.

Nah man, MST3K is terrible.
A semi-representative comparison of the image quality in the current dev kit and the 1080p prototype:

The pixels are of identical size in those pictures, it doesn't feel like a good comparison.
There's a post on the Oculus Reddit about Wicked Paradise, the VR porn game.
This guy makes a rather interesting prediction:
It would only be a matter of time before you saw high rez models of celebrities popping up all over the internet. And it'll be a huge controversy about privacy and probably sexism.
Celebrities will be suing to have any 3D models of them taken down and the creators punished, there will be a media uproar and Fox News and CNN will both do segments on it and, as usual, completely fuck it up. There'll be at least one celebrity who decides she doesn't already have enough money and tries to sell her 3D model and everyone will judge her for it and then probably just pirate it.
Meanwhile, every 14 year old boy with a VR device will finally be able to live the dream of having sex with Jessica Alba.
You know what, I'm calling it. This is all going to go down in 2015 and it's going to be an incredible show.
Hey man, porn drives progress. Nothing bad about that.
Are actual racing cars like that too?
Manual gear change without clutch control?
Do race drivers also do the one foot on gas, other on brake or is that guy just not a good driver :v:
Do race drivers also do the one foot on gas, other on brake or is that guy just not a good driver :v:
I'm pretty sure they do.

With the rift that must be one of the most realistic and fun simulators in the world :v:

i'm not a racecar driver, but i do drive stickshift and i think
left foot should always be clutch, right should be gas and brake

That's how I'm taught to drive normally, but racecar driving is far from normal which is why I asked before pointing it out
For the 1080p version, will that only be available in the consumer edition, or perhaps in future devkits?

He's using a semi automatic "flappy paddle" gearbox, doesn't need a clutch it's computer controlled. And if your left foot isn't operating a clutch it better be hovering over the brake in race conditions.

The second devkit is coming out his year with 1080p.

They haven't confirmed ANYTHING in that regard. They're considering it at best. Maybe if they find a viable solution for positional tracking that they release a new one.
it's literally watching a movie

Seems silly at first but like they said in the video you could sit around and hang out with friends from around the world
I'm pretty sure people already do this in secondlife
is there talk about a thirdlife ever being developed? A fresh start on that stuff would be pretty welcome, you'd get a lot more general users back in, especially with rift.
Can't wait for a virtual game room, so I can play as myself playing a game. Make my character sit in a chair and equip an occulus rift and jump into a game.

riftception
Given that they have a 1080p prototype and they are releasing the consumer in Q3 next year, I think that a 1440p Rift looks possible.
Asus have released a 4K monitor http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/03/asus-31-5-inch-4k-monitor-priced-at-3-799-39-inch-version-com/
I'm hoping this means a 4K Rift by 2016.
Although 2K cinema projectors don't seem to look bad, so perhaps the key is in putting the pixels closer together.

Yeah, I previously linked an Engadget article with Qualcomm(?) showing 2560x1600(?) Mirasol display on 5 inches or so. It was hinted though that it's a bit early for production, but in 2-3 years it could hit the market.

If it does I'd be extremely tempted to get it but I'll have to restrain myself.
We'll get 4K "rifts" in a few years, no doubt about it. Just hope that VR kicks off in the mainstream and we're set.
[editline]15th June 2013[/editline]
The 2014 commercial version will obviously be 1080p though.
[editline]15th June 2013[/editline]
But they said "at minimum" 1080p so I doubt even they know for sure.

One year is a lot of time.
I feel like cartman from the episode where he froze himself waiting for the wii
So has anyone tried Portal/Portal 2 with the rift?
[editline]15th June 2013[/editline]
Looks like a guy did, check it out. Wish he showed a little bit more gameplay but it's alright. Definitely trying this once I get my Consumer Rift.

I've driven an actual racing car and the clutch was only needed when you switched from park to 1. After that you could just switch back and forth without ever touching the clutch, so after a while other foot on brake and other on gas comes naturally.
